Gundren turns off the road onto a path leading to one of the smaller houses in Phandalin. Even in the dark, the party can see the structure is not in the best of shape. "Halia? Well, sure. We've had a lot of dealings with her. She's very knowledgeable and pretty helpful. Why do you ask?" Gundren opens the front door to the home and walks in, not waiting for the others to do so first. "Tharden?! Nundro?!" he calls. He begins stomping around the small house, looking for this brothers.
As the others enter, they find not necessarily a derelict building so much as what appears to be an abandoned building in need of repair. The walls aren't completely whole. The fireplace is full of stones as if the chimney has partially collapsed. There are a few pieces of furniture, but not much at all. Luckily, there is no foul odor, which could be a concern in a place like this.
Gundren appears from the back of the house and sighs. "Not here," he informs them. "They must still be at the cave." He looks around. "Now, let's see if we can find something to sleep on." He looks up suddenly. "Oh! First ... " he says, drawing out the word as he hurries toward the back of the house again. Soon after, he returns, a small cask clutched in his dwarven arms. "A nightcap," he says brightly, smiling brightly at Karl. "We wouldn't want Uncle going thirsty." He puts the cask on the floor and pulls the cork. "I hope you all have your own mugs."
Go ahead and figure out what you want to do the next day.
Karl takes a deep sniff of the substance - whisky or brandy I'm guessing and then takes a careful sip rolling it around in his mouth before uttering a deep sigh "it was worth rescuing you just for a taste of this ambrosia"he says to Gundren. He then turns to Vondal and continues "this sorta plannin' young-un is more up your alley than mine. Where to from 'ere?"
Vondal opened his mouth as if to answer; and yet, following a furrowing of brows in deeper consideration, the gold dwarf faintly nodded and quietly decide to use the distraction of Gundren calling for his brother to let the matter drop there. "Huh? I'm sorry, Uncle. But uh, what was that?" Vondal asked, visibly startled out of his own thoughts. If either question is repeated or if given a moment to think, Vondal 'ah' and nods firmly, accepting the great burden of the infamous 'planning phase'.
Leading it, anyhow... sort of?
"Tonight.. today? Whichever. First we rest in shifts, just in case, as it could be possible yet other spies remain in town. Then we awaken, some of us will see about resupplying. Maybe even get new cart and horse to ease future transport trhough. Try to, anyways. Oh! And check in with Sildar too! If memory serves me right, he owes us 500 gold for locating Cragmaw Castle. Perhaps even more for, uh, assisting Gundren with his forced overdue stay."He winks at the Rockseeker, hoping he hadn't stepped on the dwarf's pride too much there by accident.
"So, I guess in order it should be we rest, find Sildar with Gundren here after, resupply at Barthens and maybe at Tymora as well, and then head for the mines soon after, yes?"He looks to each one looking for agreement, before another thought has him looking solemn for a moment. "Actually.. There is bit of business I need to see on the part of Daran. So, if see Sildar on way, I will trust the rest of you to find him while I take care of that business. After all done, we meet back at Stonehill Inn. Agreed?"
(Just as a sidenote in case needing to push things ahead, Vondal will ask Adrom about putting an Alarm up in his room, as well as about attempting to copy the map before we take the long rest.)
Vondal, roll a DEX check with advantage (thanks to Adrom), and I'll let you add half your proficiency (+1) since you're proficient with calligrapher's tools, so you'd be used to being detailed with paper/parchment and ink.
The house you are in is one story. It's hard to really know how each room is being used since things are quite disorganized and somewhat a mess. Basically, you're going to be camping inside. But without a fire because the fireplace is full of collapsed chimney. But Gundren has no issue with an alarm spell being used. He's a little impatient when you start talking about staying up to make a copy of the map, but doesn't verbally complain.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Map Copy Check: 13.
"Much appreciated. And do give him my regards." He smiled, and with Adrom's help, set to work on making the copy as soon as possible. Though the temptation to intentionally make some erroneous markings in it to disrupt anyone that might steal is an idea he toys with it at one point or another, Vondal eventually dismissed it favor of making the spare.
This one, with Gundren's approval, he passed to Karl for safekeeping after giving Gundren back the original.
Karl takes the map and quickly scans it "good job young-un!"before rolling it up and placing it carefully in one of the many pockets that festoon his duster.
The night turns into morning. Nothing of note takes place during any of the watches. Mid morning, and the party wakes to the smell of cooking meat. Gundren has a makeshift kitchen in the back of the house with a fire going and a pan frying something greasy. He smiles at the sight of the party. "Good morning," he says. "This is almost ready. We'll finish off that cask from last night and then you all can start on your chores. I'd like to accompany whoever is going to find Sildar." He turns the meat over and throws in a mound of shaved root vegetable. A short time later, the party is enjoying the warm meal and cool drink.
Despite waking to some aches and pains left over from days of adventure, Vondal cannot help but smile and rub his hands gleefully at the sight and smell of breakfast. Any thought of further hashing out the plan that morning over it is swept aside as soon as it forms. As the Gold Dwarf, at the very least, wanted nothing more than to enjoy the moment of peace and relaxation, or as close as they would get in a frontier time. Only naturally did he thank him afters, and promised to someday repay the favor with a special meal using in part some Underchasm recipes.
When it inevitably came time to take care of errands, true to his word, Vondal took out a small wooden case, considering it a moment with a solemn look, and then while putting it away said, "Vell then. See you all back at Stonehill, ya. Still got that 'thing' to do, after all. But here! For those seeking SIldar and supplies-..." Whoever volunteers for th ejob is passed along twenty gold pieces to pay for however many days of rations, a set of arrows, and a spare quiver. After that, he departs with whoever wished it to see about finding Mirna Dendra. Who, if he hadn't known where he home was before, he makes a stop by the temple to Tymora, and then to Stonehill Inn itself to ask for her family's residence.

"This old dwarf 'll hold the fort back 'ere."Karl says. He looks over at Nif "young'un why don't you go seeking this Sildar bloke?" he instructs him. Nif knows that while the request was framed as a question it was really a command and sets off to find Sildar. "Ok Uncle" he says.
Vondal sets off on his own, heading for the small shrine west of the Stonehill Inn. Almost immediately, he encounters someone going about their late morning business along the street and is greeted heartily with a call and a wave. "It's good to see you back in town," they say with a big smile. "Are the rest of the Saviors with you?" Vondal answers that they are, and the Phandalvian seems all the more happy. They wish him a good day and continue on. Several times on his way to hopefully see Sister Garaele, he is greeted and sometimes even thanked once again for his part in ridding Phandalin of the Redbrands. It's enough to really bolster a dwarf's self-esteem. By the time he reaches the shrine to Tymora, Vondal is standing about a foot taller and grinning a little shamelessly.
The sister is in attendance when Vondal calls out to her. She looks up from performing some duty and gives the dwarf a friendly smile as she exits the shrine and approaches. "Good fortune to you ... " Vondal can see her recognize him halfway through her greeting. "Well, if it isn't one of the Saviors of Phandalin. It's good to see you again." Vondal asks the sister where he might find Mirna Dendrar. "Mirna? Well, she lives right there," the sister says, pointing straight south at a building he can see looking between the Townmaster's Hall and the Lionshield Coster. "The brave woman has taken up woodworking. It seems she was a student of her husband's and no one knew it. Not quite as skilled as he was, but she'll get better the more she works at it," the Tymora worshipper says with a twinkle in her eye. She reaches out and touches Vondal's arm. "Say, did you ever get your friend back to his people, or did you bury him around here?"
While Karl decides to stay back at the Rockseekers' home, Nif, Adrom and Gundren head out to find Sildar. Nif and Adrom explain that Sildar had taken up the role of Townmaster, so the three head toward the Townmaster's Hall. Much like Vondal's experience, Nif and Adrom are greeted heartily as Saviors of Phandalin, much to the delight of Gundren. Similarly, Gundren is greeted and welcomed back to town. Some questions are exchanged concerning the other two brothers, and no one has any news for Gundren, saying they haven't seen either of them in some time.
The trio enter the front doors of the Townhall, but find the reception desk empty. Deciding Sildar isn't so regimented as to make them wait for an escort, they proceed through the interior doors and into the courtroom. Inside, they find Sildar pouring over some papers at the desk in the corner. He looks up as they enter and happily stands. "Gundren!" he says, greeting the dwarf. "You're alive!" He moves around the desk to shake his former traveling companion's arm.
"I am," Gundren agrees, "thanks to these ... Saviors of Phandalin," Gundren says, trying out the title himself. He turns and gives both Nif and Adrom appreciative looks. "I'll tell you all about my horrible adventure at another time. First, have you seen my brothers?"
"I haven't," Sildar says with a slight shake of the head. "The locals keep expecting them to show up any day," the old soldier says, trying to sound optimistic.
This lull in conversation would be a good place for Nif or Adrom to speak.
"Are the locals sounding a wee bit worried that his"pointing to Gundren "brothers haven't shown as yet. As in they're running late or have been held up?" Nif asks.
Sildar looks at Gundren. "From what I gather, you three generally come and go with no set schedule, is that right?"
Gundren waves his head back and forth in a noncommittal nod. "It's really Tharden and Nundro who are more reliably in town," Gundren says. "I often need to return to Neverwinter to make sure things are still running back home. Tharden and Nundro usually return to Phandalin about once every tenday to buy supplies. I'd say we're going on two tendays since they've last been in town, if my figuring's right."
"That does sound a little worrisome," Sildar says.
"And with me getting snatched up ... and you with me," Gundren says quickly to the old soldier, "it makes me a bit nervous my brothers've been got as well."
