Blue Eyes smiles at the Sergeant. "We understand the Watch works nonstop and likes to ensure the safety of the city. We were merely defending ourselves."

I have an intelligence of six, I know what I'm doing.
Grimsdatch looks at the bodies, as the men take up positions around the scene. "Defending one's self with lethal force should not be somebody's first option, especially, as you say, when the Watch works nonstop. Killers on the street can be judged quite harshly. Now, what happened here to precipitate this slaughter?"
At this, the man from the carriage beings to speak.
"We'll get to you, sir. First, let this one continue."
Its simple. On the way to an interview, these dead guys set upon Leros. We tried to de-escalate the situation with words, they attacked us first. We only reacted. At any point if they had stopped attacking we would have quit. Hell that guy died in 1 hit, if I'm acting in self defense and he dies the first time I hit him that's not my fault. To quote a famous prince from my homeland, The Prince of Belaire "don't start nothing, won't be nothing ".
I'm sorry they're dead. I'm sorry if we caused you extra work, but can we please get going?
Glory is amused with the give and take. He is pleased that Darruk is so blunt and straight forward in his story. Obviously this is getting sticky. Just the way Glory likes things. He quietly waits for someone to notice him. Since the Gendarmes had announced themselves he had simply stopped and stood watching.
The Sergeant looks Darruk up and down; clearly he seems suspicious, but he just as clearly recalls your actions earlier this evening in the Portal. The man from the carriage begins to fidget, until his hands finally disappear in the folds of his cloak as he appears confused. The Sergeant turns to Leoros.
"And you? Your business seems to have started this whole affair. What were you doing?"
Leoros responds nervously "Business? A...a man at the Portal suggested that I give my most valuable possession over to this gentlemen in the carriage. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but, now, I have no idea what came over me, and I'd like it back. It's in the carriage, a headpiece that..."
"Quiet," hisses the man from the carriage.
Sergeant Grimsdatch's eyebrows raise at the interruption, but, instead of questioning the man, he nods at one of his own to search the vehicle. To the general vicinity he states "business conducted under duress is frowned upon in Waterdeep, and actions taken to further it not considered defense." He nods again, to his single unarmed companion, who appears to begin preparations of a sort. "Would anybody care to amend their statement?"
Darruk looks to Leros "you were under duress? Perhaps one of these dead guys had charmed you through magical means. I don't really dabble in magic but I've seen it. It might explain why they wouldn't let you leave"
"Your men have no right to search my belongings, Sergeant," says the man indignantly. "This man and I had a deal. If he no longer wishes to abide by it, he can take it to the courts. Buyers remorse is no reason for tall tales, much less orchestrating a brawl in the street!"
At a glance from the Sergeant, two men move to Leoros' back. "Is that your claim, then, that this individual waylaid you in the street, to break a contract? These are serious charges in Waterdeep - fines and time in the stockade at a minimum, with bodies in the street, exile or death."
Leoros turns white at this, and looks around beseechingly for help.
Speak lad. Can't none of us do it for you. If you've regret say. If you were coerced now is the time...if you made a bad deal...well I'm sorry. That happens.
Sergeant, have you an auger or diviner? Surely they could tell if the fellow had been charmed or simply has sellers remorse.
“Funny you should mention that.” Grimsdatch replies as his companion finishes whatever preparation she was doing and stands back at attention. “Not quite diviners, but those who make it...difficult to say anything but the truth. I don’t like to use them, but the public has to see murder in the streets swiftly handled.“
Leoros wails “I swear, Sergeant, i just have this man my headpiece for nothing! I do not know if I was bewitched!”
Grimsdatch smiles, not without pity. “That may be, son. And if anybody harmed you, we shall find out. You will just have to speak again, in her zone.” He looks at the man in the carriage, and to each of you in turn. “All of you will.”
Glory brightens again at the mystery afoot and says "The truth, now there is an elusive concept. I can't wait to be judged under such a bright light as the truth."
Sergeant Grimsdatch chuckles. "We do not need to go anywhere. Inspector, if you would."
The more lightly armed woman heads behind the carriage. From her location, you hear an incantation. When she returns, her eyes are focused in concentration. "Ready, sir."
"Come, friend," the Sergeant says to Leoros. "We will get to the bottom of this mystery, of the business conducted here, and if you were ensared. Truths will be revealed, one person at a time. Where we ask, you cannot lie." He looks at all of you, but his gaze lingers most on the man from the carriage, and only slightly less upon Darruk. "Any of you."
Leoros, the Sergeant, and the focused woman move behind the carriage. Six guards remain at attention around the carriage.
Glory walks up and says "Ah, this is wonderful, I always ...." He was trying to say "Speak the truth" but the words just wont come out of his mouth instead he hears himself say " ... insult first and ask questions later." He squints in frustration. "Well, what do you know about that ... I guess I better be quiet and speak when spoken to."
Darruk begins walking back behind the carriage. "Look, you saw me earlier. I met Leros there, nice guy. I'm looking for work. I saw him beset upon and ask to leave. I asked he be let go. I was attacked and defended myself, people died. Fellow in the carriage and I discussed work...not one lie have I spoke "
Grimsdatch's eyes narrow. "Interfering with an investigation can be 5 years hard labor. Your actions at the Yawning Portal only go so far. However, I wished to speak with you next, so we might as well ask the first question while this man is here. In fact," he asks the investigator, "this requires an audience. Bring this man's companions, and Farnok as well."
When all have been assembled, he addresses you call. "We have an impasse here. A battle in the streets, where one (nodding at Darruk) says this his friend (nodding at Leoros) was being held, whereas Leoros himself made no mention of captivity. That concerns me. He did mention he believes one of you instigated the fight, which concerns me more. Now, who wants to come clean, and spend less time in the stockades?"
The area behind the carriage is a Zone of Truth. If/when you first speak, please provide a CHA saving throw. Note that if you fail, you cannot strictly speaking lie, but you can be evasive. As long as what you say is technically not a lie, it is permitted.

So do we follow you, or do we need an appointment? Also do they have drinks there and if not can we do it somewhere that does?
Blue Eyes nods. "Agreed, I feel like we should go somewhere with drinks. It can help all of us."
