Elmo, feeling a decent buzz start to kick in, acknowledges that it is his turn.
"Greetings Lord Holderhek! Thanks ye for yer kindness. I don't believe that my word will carry more weight than a bloody flaming sword of light."
Elmo pauses to correct himself. He looks at Leon,
"Sorry lad, bloody Dawnbringer"
Elmo continues,
"My lord, I never thought I would find myself, in yer city or even the Under Dark itself. Both locations have built up quite a reputation, but though me humble opinion may be a wee bit biased, I personally have found yer city to be glistening jewel shining below the surface! Ol'Elmo will never the forget healing of me soul that happened at the Twin Boulders! (elmo glances as the slaves serving) Though I could see some room for a wee bit of improvement down here."
Elmo takes a deep breath then take a drink from his mug.
"But enough niceties. Ye be wanting information from me. I found me-self down here by an act of betrayal. I was hired for a wee bit of burglary, well not the burglary per-say, more the scouting and casing of the job. The job was near a keep on the far outskirts of Water Deep, and not terribly far from an entrance to the Under dark. About a week into me patient work, I began to believe that the job wasn't right. Something was a wee bit off. I gave it another day before making my exit. While leaving me hiding position I was ambushed by a loved one and members of her order. I was taken as their prisoner, but broke free of my restraints in the night. With a sharpened stick I dispatched 3 members of her order. All but me older sister. I simply left her a note reading "Why?". Two days later while making camp in what I thought was a secure location, I was ambushed again and knocked out. I woke up from the impact of what I can only assume was me being dropped hard on the ground. I was bound and was and in a helpless rage. The type of rage that comes from an unwarranted betrayal. That rage slowly turned to bloody terror when I realized where she had dumped me, the entrance to the under dark. She wanted something worse than death for me... her own brother. Seeing me sister in her bloody righteous monks robes walking away from me was the last thing I saw before the real nightmare began."
Elmo chokes back emotion and takes another drink
"I found me-self in a drow prison cell with Grem over there, enduring torture for gods know how long. At some point we broke out. Sicne then we have been bloody chased by the drow ever since."
Elmo pauses and look at the drow at the table, "No offense to ye personally, but we killed plenty of yer dreadful lot as they tracked us. And we will kill as many more as we need if they try to reinstate our incarceration. I apologize if this don't apply to ye mate"
I want to do an insight check on the drows reaction. I want to know if he will work against us. If he will relay a message to others of his kind about our location.
Insight check: 15
"Anyhow, we traveled to a kingdom of fish people before we saw a giant daemon begin to lay waste to the poor city. We barely escaped with our lives. After that we had a few run ins with drow, and drow employed orcs until we arrived in a beautiful mushroom kingdom. We didn't get to stay there long as the corruption had consumed that city as well. There we saw an unholy wedding, a ghastly garden made of severed heads, and another great daemon."
Elmo takes another drink,
"And that saying nothing about the horrible soul killing nightmares of evil, seeing yer friends get violated by all manner of tentacled beast (Elmo tries not to look at Grem but fails), dealing with cancerous elements in yer party, and bloody ******* Fargas!"
"Long story short Lord Holderhek, here we are. Yer hospitality be most appreciated."
Gremryl sips his beer, listening to Elmo weave his tale of woe and mischief.. at the mention of tentacles he coughs into his beer.. "moradins beard..bloody tentacles he mutters into his ale"
Lord Holderhek - "Aye. We've heard of the Demogorgon, Prince of Demons arriving Sloobludop and of the Demon Queen, Zuggtmoy making her new HQ out of Neverlight Grove...Concerning indeed! We also appreciate your stories on how you've come to arrive here in the Underdark. It's not common we see Surface-dwellers. And your business with the Drow...Sarik, we would appreciate your words on that in a moment. And now, Gremryl Stonebreaker...your clan is most honored here. Tell us of what you've seen in the Underdark?"
Elmo's Insight check doesn't reveal anything of substantial value. The Drow may be friend, may be foe, yet situationally, by invitation to this table, you suspect he is friend...for now.
Gremryl watches Elmo sit. He pauses, and sips his ale, its been a long time since he's told his tale. Speaking of it again brings memories of mistakes and pain he'd much rather forget. But, nonetheless, he is Gremryl Stonebreaker, and a tale they shall have.
He stands up and addresses Lord Kharren
Again Lord Kharren, I thank ye for inviting us to your home and giving us such a fine fare that I haven't seen since me days in Adbarr. I served in the Abarrian Army, and was a major in the Gutbuster bridge ye know. Traveled far I have and have seen my fare share of our lands. What have I seen in the Underdark ye ask? I've seen death, savagery, evil and vileness the likes I haven't seen since me days in serving in the Orc wars. I've been down here seeking those who killed me clan and me family. Hemeth mentioned ye had heard of me Clan, and to that I hope to speak later. Down here, I walked, I spread moradin's blessing those beings of evil kin. (He casts a sidelong glance at the drow). I walked, angry and in search of a path that might lead me to answers. It lead me somewhere alright. Into a Drow slave camp. Myself, along with Master Elmo and another companion escaped. I'll spare you the details of the escape an ensuing chase because elmo and I were in the thick of it every step of the way.
In that Fishy village we found a Duergar captured and we freed him and brought him along. At first, I will admit, we didn't see beard to beard as they say, but Master Hemeth showed me that not all Duergar are made of the same Rock. Aye, We even trained a bit, Duergar wrestling is re-knowned Lord, and he put me in a few arm bars he did. We continued towards this city, encountered the Demigorgon, and the Demon queen, and also Frozen Duergar. They stood still as rocks and seemed to be sentinels. I experienced nightmares of evil demons attacking me and me friends, unable to help them. All while we continued here. Hemeth spoke to me of Moradin, and as ye may know....I'm but a humble servant of our Moradin, put back on our ground to spread his word. But now I believe I was brought back, and my companions were put in my path to stop this evil, this vileness from spreading in ye land, and the land above. I feel we must rise together, much like the Duergar did against the mind flayers, and unite much like the tapestries of the our kin and clan you have so displayed in ye Manse lord.
Ye ask what I have seen? Aye, I have seen evil, and terror, and tentacles the like I dare not dream at night... but I have also seen strength, honor, courage, loyalty. I have seen strangers become companions, and companions become family. I have seen my own follies, and ignorance be torn away and replaced for a respect and understanding. I hated all things under dark aye... but Master Hemeth and Elmo showed me tis not always the case. My anger has been replaced with a sense of Right. Not since served with King Buenor that I have felt that. Back in me days, tis a righteous feeling it was. My friends and brother (he looks at Hemeth) have shown me that again. I know we face an evil, but on me clans name, ye will have Moradin's Benevolence there to smite it in the face by me own hand my Lord. I stand with ye, master Hemeth, Master elmo and our Cleric Leon. I stand for good.
He looks around, and sits down.
Then half stands up and says " Oh, Moradins benevolence is what I call me Mace! it ignites in a green flame, you know, like Moradins furnace" he grins and sits
Mikey stands up next to follow orders and weave his tale...
"Your dudeness, thanks for the righteous munchies! My name is Mikey and my story is just as interesting and complex as the others that you have grooved on this night." Mikey clears his throat and takes a dramatic pause before launching into his narrative. "My bros and I fell in a big hole. I am now here. I want to find my bros." He takes a deep breath as if gathering momentum to continue his tale and then abruptly sits down and begins making another mini-pizza.
Just as Mikey finishes his sentence, and having been interrupted before thanking Gremryl for his words, Lord Holderhek stands up to say a few things. Just as he opens his mouth to speak, one of his attendants comes up to his side and whispers a few short words in his hear, inaudible to anyone else at the table. Lord Holderhek's facial expression gives nothing away. Looking at the attendant, he nods quickly and then turns his attention back towards the group seated at his table.
Lord Holderhek - "It appears we have one more who will be joining us this evening. While we prepare his place at the table, I want to say a few things to our guest, Gremryl." Looking firmly at the Dwarf he goes on. "Gremryl Stonebreaker, your story is both meaningful and appreciated. I am grateful for your friendship towards Hemeth, as I'm sure it's...on the mend, shall we say?" Glancing at Hemeth and nodding appropriately as if to acknowledge his son's opinion and stance on the matter, while also purposefully inserting his influence into the atmosphere. "Now then, Gremryl, you speak of our ancient history with the Mindflayers...dark days indeed...days we've since put behind us. However the damage wracked on our people has never fully recovered and to this day we still harbor resentment of others which I believe is rooted in both our tragic past and stubborn culture of the present." Lord Holderhek lets out a telling sigh. "Also, there is the matter of your clan and perhaps more importantly, the current whereabouts of your wife and child. Sarik may know more, and I ask that he volunteer any information in the matter in the strictest of confidence that what is spoken at this table is for the ears of only those at this table." In a very serious tone he says these words and the entire table simultaneously grasps the true weight of this meeting as if a thousand iron ingots were being pressed upon their shoulders.
At Lord Holderhek's request, the Drow rises from his seat after placing his wine goblet onto the table gently with remarkably not a sound made.
Sarik - "You have escaped the clutches of Mistress Ilvara, Mizzrym have you not, Gremryl, Leon and Elmo? A feat indeed worthy of her attention...and her wrath. How little you know of her grand designs yet how important you've now become in their unraveling. What I say next is spoken with Lord Holderhek's honor at stake so I do encourage you to think intelligently before you react." Pausing a moment and having looked around the room at each of the adventurers to command their attention, he continues. "House Mizzrym is now the fourth most powerful family of the Drow houses. Ilvara is only using her post as commander of Velkynvelve as a temporary stepping stone to higher posts. Knowledge of your escape will likely threaten her ascent to a more influential position."
The servants make room at the table for one more as Sarik speaks. A chair is brought to the fresh place setting.
Sarik - "Gremryl Stonebreaker, it is my business to know as much as my spies can learn...and they tell me that your family yet lives...for now. Should you wish to see them again, it'll be the City of Spiders that you must journey to...Menzoberranzan. I must caution you though...from the looks of it, your strength alone, as it stands today, will not be enough to rescue them. You wouldn't be here though, if Lord Holderhek didn't think you capable of achieving what is required to challenge the darkness that spreads through the Underdark." And with those closing remarks, he takes his seat again, looking at each of the adventurers with ice cold eyes of pitch black.
Just as the new place setting is complete, you see a Human male being led to the table.
Lord Holderhek - "Ahh...you've arrived and just in time. Everyone, this is Rowland Black. He is to be your guide back to the surface via Blingdenstone once your business here in Gracklstugh is finished. Mr. Black, please, introduce yourself."
As Rowland steps to his place at the table he takes a moment to scan the faces of the motley group assembled, noting the haggard looking group and some of the questioning looks.
"Greetings fellow travellers. Lord Holderhek, thank you once again for the hospitality you've shown me."
He once again looks back out at the group.
"From what I've heard you've had quite the journey thus far. I'm eager to be of assistance in hopes that it will lead us both to finding what we're in search of."
He then takes his seat and promptly begins draining his ale.
Gremryl looks like a halfings fart could knock him over... Ainny.. she's ok?? she's alive.. and Mevana.. his sweet little mevana.. is alive!
"what.. what... Aindura and mevana live.... I, I, I .... all this time. They live? We have to get them back. Moradin's Will! we have to get them back. "
almost hyper ventilating. He takes a big ass swig of his Ale.
To Hemeth "Ye got anything stronger than this Ale... I believe I could use something a wee bit stronger brother"
Lord Holderhek - “Thank you, Rowland. As I said before, he’s tasked with being your guide to the surface. Im trusting you to treat him well. My son when through great lengths to earn the favor required to bring this person to you. I’m sure you’ll find some way to repay him, won’t you?” He asks somewhat rhetorically, believing he already knows this answer. “Moriska, won’t you introduce yourself?” Looking at the middle-aged female Dwarf, resembling nobility and an undeniable inner strength.
Moriska Malkin - “Morista Malkin. I’m a scout and a member of the Emerald Enclave. I come on behalf of King Bruenor. Battlehammer” And she finishes at that.
Lord Holderhek - “Thank you, Morista. Ghuldur, please.” And he looks to the aged Duergar for words.
Ghuldur Flagonfist - “Ghuldur Flagonfist. Merchant here in the great city of Gracklstugh. Also representative of Mantol-Derith.”
Lord Holderhek - “Chief Dormo, my honorable friend.” Looking to the Deep Gnome with sincere friendship.
Chief Dormo Diggermattock - “If you are who we think you are, then it is an honor to meet you.” He looks to the adventurers and something within his words stirs you.
Lord Holderhek - “Now that we’re all acquainted, tell me...how would you all feel about participating in our first annual Gracklstugh Underdark Brewery Contest? It only involves drinking more than your competition.” Jen looks around waiting for their responses.
At the mention of the contest Rowland sets his empty mug down with a sigh and waves for another.
"Damn good ale for these parts. Course, I was so thirsty, I could drink the sweat from a minotaur's ass and be thankful for it. This 'contest' you speak of Lord Holderhek, would it lead to a prize of some sort?"
"Glad to hear the good news with you Grem. You have me and Dawnbringer to help you get them back no matter what the cost."
Telepathically to Dawnbringer
"Sorry for volunteering you for this quest but it seemed like great evil was involved with this plot as well."
Leon looks to Rowland.
"Pleasure to meet you Mr. Black. It has been sometime since I have seen another human in these parts. Well now that I think about it I have never seen a human besides me in these parts. How the hell did you get here?"

"Back in Abdar my father was the champion of the drinking team and he taught me everything he knows." Leon looks over to Grem and gives a head nod. "I am game for this challenge Lord Holderhek and I appreciate the invitation."
Mikey is a bit overwhelmed by all of the conversation and new faces and his attention is bouncing around like he is watching six hyperactive squirrels play ping pong...
To Sarik: "Yo, dude! That's really cool about the dwarf and his family and all, but maybe you've heard something about my family as well? Any idea where my bro's ended up?
To Dormo: "What did you mean by 'if we are who you think we are'? Who exactly are we supposed to be?"
To Black: "Welcome to the party, dude! My name's Mikey! What's your deal? Where do you come from and what can you do?"
To Holderhek: "Did somebody say 'PARTY'!? (picks up cup of ale eagerly)"
"Aye, a contest! Moradin knows I be needing some drinks... Master Black, welcome lad. But know we have some business here in the city to conclude in order to be able to leave. So you are in for what we call.. "a wee bit of adventuring". (he sighs.. knowing his family is alive. But he knows he can't get to them now. He has to 'play the game' as they say). And you master.. eh Mikey ye say. What is it you do? What hole did you fall into lad? Will ye be joining us too then? Your accent seems a bit strange.. Calimshaw? Ah no matter, if ye can hold ye drink, and fight, then ye can come along. But no one can hold their drink like a Gutbuster! (he looks at the female dwarf) Young Leon is right, as he often is! I was a champion in my day, but not of beards for Master Leon clearly has me beat! but of Ales! Let this contest begin! (he'll cling leons mug and stand next to him)"

To Grem: "What I do? I eat pizza, I party, and I KICK EVIL BUTT! My master trained my brothers and I in the ancient art of the ninja in our underground home, so I learned to punch, kick, and bash baddies with my chucks here (performance check to display nunchuck skills while continuing to talk 20). Everything was real chill until there was an earthquake one day that opened up a sinkhole. My bros and I fell into it and ended up here. It'd be awesome if you dudes would let me travel with you while I search for them. My master always told us that teamwork and brotherhood are our greatest weapons. Since I have no clue where my bros are I don't really care where we travel since checking in one place is just as good as checking in another. As for this drinking game, things may get a bit gnarly since I've never really done any drinking since my master didn't allow it. But I'm up for my first party of this kind!!"
Rowland replies to Leon, "I agree, it's unexpected to see others from the surface so far from home. I'm just passing thru these parts same as you it seems. Although I must admit the longer I'm in this god forsaken place I find myself asking more and more what the hell I'm doing with my life. I'm searching for something that was taken. My father, the ******* bastard, trained me in the ways of the rangers and knew of an entry to this realm. He was killed and the thieves took something that was dear to him. I'm looking to have a word with them and reclaim what belongs to my family. Hemeth has promised to assist me in my search in return for aiding you lot in your quest to see daylight once more."
Turning his attention to Mikey, "I know the route out of here which is apparently worth something around here. I've been known to hold my own in a scrap and some say I'm swift for my kind."
At the word swift Rowland uses his shared passage skill to teleport himself and Mikey over to the nearest source of ale and hands him another mug.
