"Hemeth, Master Holderhelk, it's a strange times we be living in... demons arising, worlds ending, and folks like us coming together to save it. (He sips his ale again) bah.. I couldn't be leaving ye lads to deal with this mess in a clear conscious. Couldn't be freeing me family only to have demons roaming about. I'll be staying if that's alright. I think ye be needing a servant of Moradin on the days to come lads. "
He raises his mug in salute and takes a sip
Then he orders to two shots and slides one to leon and another to Elmo
Elmo wants nothing more than to leave. Though he was never the 'Every man for himself' type, he was never as generous and care free with his life as he was since his adventures in the under dark. Elmo wants to leave sooooo bad, but something is stopping him. He waits with a nervous look on his face for the others to answer. Elmo is visibly uncomfortable as he drinks quickly dispenses with the booze his close friend provided. (Elmo nods at Grem and gives a nervous half smile.)
Not wanting to draw undue attention from Lord Holderhelk,
'Sorry Lord Holderhelk, I need to confer with me dwarfen friends and have our well earned drink first!" . Elmo holds up his glass to Lord Holderhelk before turning away with Leon and Grem. Elmo turns to Grem,
"Thanks for the drink mate. You're a true friend. I want to leave. More than anything. Elmo is certainly a scoundrel, but I enjoy believing that, when it mattered, I've always made the moral decision. At least how I saw it. I've done bad things. But I never meant to hurt folk... Maybe I'm just not being honest with me'self, but I don't think I be the worst of me trade. I considered myself an honest thief before I met ye mate. But since I've met ye self righteous arse, I cant help but feel ye judging eyes disproving of me actions on many occasions, even if ye was not there. (Elmo chuckles and nervously plays with the shot glass) I don't mind it mate. Its helped Ol'Elmo grow a lot. (Elmo pauses) The only reason I bring it up, is because I know staying and helping ye rescue ye family is a suicide mission. I know you and I are square of any debt. I know that I NEED to see the sun again. With the madness we have seen and know is coming, I should have been gone by now. Then why do I feel like shite for even thinking about leaving? (Elmo puts his hand on his good friends shoulder) I want to hear yer thoughts on this my dwarven brother. (Elmo makes a very self aware joke) Make me feel ok about leaving me mate. Make it so I can forgive me-self" Elmo's looks down and laughs loudly to hide pained facial expressions. Elmo holds up the shot for Leon and Grem. "Am I being a right scoundrel mate?"
To Leon (before the shot),
"Ye got a grand Pa mate. I wish I had one just like him when I was a lad."
Leon looks around the room at everyone in the party and turns back to Elmo.
”I don’t remember my grandpa. I left home at a rather young age and haven’t seen any family in quite some time. (Leon pauses} but this Elmo, this group, is the closest thing to family I think I will ever get. Granted it is weird as hell. But it’s a family. Grem is obviously the aloof father figure, Mikey is weird uncle who say inappropriate things all the time, Elmo you are the awkward younger brother type, Rowland is the loner weirdo of the family, and I am the strange cousin that got way too into religion.”
Leon steels his eyes on Elmo
”No one has any right to ask you to stay and fight this evil. I will not think less of you if you choose to go back up top side and live the life that was taken away from you. I have always appreciated your company and I will one day whether you stay or go hopefully enjoy one of your pocket meats. Know this Master Elmo, if you choose to stay I will do everything in my, Tymora and Dawnbringer’s power to see you get back home.”
Leon takes his shot and looks to Grem. Leon gives Grem a Pedator style handshake.
”You go, we go.”
Leon brings his old man in for a hug. Leon turns to Hemeth and Lord Holderhek.
”I dont know how much help we will be against a demon but you will have Dawnbringer and I to help in your endeavors.”
Gremryl hugs leon noting how yall he has gotten. "Ye be bringing more than just the light to the underdark me boyx but to this old dwarfs soul. Moradin and Tymora must of had too much celestial ale to have paired the lot of us up but I'm in there debt for it! And these demons dont know that the holy smite and shiite exterminators are in town lad!"
To Elmo
"Ye be a scoundrel. But a good and honorable one despite ye best at trying to hide it. Ye have every right to leave now for this place has not been nice lad. Ye deserve to open up up ye own smoked pocket meat shop and live a long scoundrel life selling ye meat to the masses. I'm sure leon would pay a copper or two to see that! I cannot ask ye to stay though lad. I cant speak on how ye be feeling. Ye yer path and know your heart. As long as it's in it's right place then ye good lad. I wont lie, I do enjoy ye company and always feel better knowing you have me back with that wicked crossbow. Do what's in yer heart and walk with pride brother. What'll it be brother? And you master chortle?:
Mikey heaves a sigh and stares down into his cup: “we’ll, dudes...my master raised my brothers and I to be selfless and brave where others r in danger. He would b very ashamed if I were to leave these people to their demonic fate. Plus, I still need to search the underdark for my brothers so I may as well do so while bonking some gnarly demons! I’m in for this party (ponds his drink with one hand while spinning nunchucks with the other)!
"I suppose I cant let a fine establishment like the Twin Boulders fall to evil and madness. Leon, if I die because of this foolishness, Ill be haunting ye till ye finals days and beyond."
Elmo walks over to Grem, takes the bottle of booze from him and takes a long pull from it. "Shite."
As Rowland follows the healers deeper into Hemeth's manse, he curses the cold damp air of the underdark under his breathe as it blows across his bare skin and his thoughts begin to wander:
'Damn it father, what in the hells were you up to in this business. I come home to pay my respects only to find you were involved in some demonic plot to conquer the underdark! What would mother think if she could see the son you've raised and where your actions have landed me. I'd wager she'd have stern words indeed and maybe you'd be the one on the receiving end of the switch!'
Rowland stifles a chuckle at the thought.
'I'm going to keep digging up your secrets you bastard. And when this is finished I may just resurrect your tired bones to pay for whatever part you've played in this I swear it! I intend to clear the Black name and perhaps do something that will matter with my life. At least I've met some decent folk in these parts which is a strange and welcome turn of events. The dwarf is an impressive specimen and I'll admit he nearly lives up to all of his own boasting on occasion. Then there's the halfling, a resourceful fellow who has proved his worth time and again, if you can look past the shenanigans involving pocket meats as he calls them. My fellow human with his magical sword who has saved our lives many times with his blessings is also one of great worth. And finally there is the chortle if that is indeed what he really is. I have my doubts about him and his unorthodox ways, but we all have our flaws, myself especially thanks to you father! Damn this musty air!
Rowland catches his mind wandering and shouts aloud to the healers again, "How far is this place of healing, and for cripes sake, do you have any means of procuring an extra set of pants!"
"Lord Holderhelk, ye should know that the prisoner we brought here said some that Captain Blackskull concerns with him had nothing to do with justice. He also mentioned that the Gray Ghosts were working to aid the city. He was standing in our zone of truth magic and showed no signs of deception."
Hemeth - "Captain Blackskull, for all her entrapments, has a good heart and does what she feels necessary to protect the citizens of Gracklstugh...at any cost. Nobody is without shortcomings...In any case, we have intel that secures our assumptions of Droki's voluntary efforts to progress the Gray Ghost's efforts. That bunch...serves only their own ambitions. Now we know those ambitions are fueled by demonic intentions." he says.
Lord Holderhek - "By your good graces with the Captain, you may also seek counsel with the Deepking. She has always carried his favor and trust. As misguided as the Deepking may be now, through Captain Blackskull, you may see for yourself if his corruption is real or rumor."he says.
Rowland, and the House Guards carrying Droki, arrive at a set of great double doors. By Rowland's count, they've descended 4 levels from the 1st floor. The House Guards move towards the door and knock in a specific pattern that Rowland stashes away in the back of his memory. Not that he expects it to ever come in handy, but he's found that in his experience, nothing is worth forgetting.
The great double doors swing open wide to reveal what appears to be an interrogation room. It's bare of any comforts and smells of sanitized cleaning supplies that haven't aired out yet. Standing next to a table set with two chairs is a short, heavy-set gnome with beady eyes behind a thick pair of glasses. He smiles and adjusts his belt before beckoning the House Guards to place the captive in his seat. Then looking to Rowland, his smile disappears.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Rowland walks slowly forward and takes a moment to glance at the guards and around the room to determine anything else about the situation. He then breathes a sigh and grins at the gnome, "Help yes that would be nice, let's see, our friend here is in need of healing and I could use a new set of trousers. Would you be in position to assist with either of those tasks?"
Interrogator - "Yes and no. Master Hemeth says this one must remain alive, yes? And that he has much information for us, yes? Pants though...no, no, no, no, I don't have pants for you." he replies.
One of the House Guards leaves and returns a short while later with a pair of trousers for Rowland. There's nothing particularly special about them, other than an unusually tight-fitting crotch area.
Rowland quietly slips on the pants and does a few squats and bends generally doing his best to 'break/stretch' the crotch area in and notes the poor fit in that region. Shooting the guard a disapproving look first, he then continues speaking to the gnome, "Well, pants problem solved for now. As to our friend here," Rowland nods at Droki, "Are you in the healing trade or more of an information gatherer?"
A house servant briskly walks up to Lord Holderhek and whispers into his ear briefly.
Lord Holderhek - "Well then. It seems our message was well received." He says, then nods to the house servant. "Captain Blackskull will arrive first thing in the morning to take possession of Droki and confer to you what she promised."
Interregator - “You don’t say much does ya? No...”. And shakes his head as he turns away from Rowland and looks towards the captive Droki, whose now sitting in a chair at the cold iron table. “Probably for the best. Now, let’s see what he has to share with us.” He says then walks over to the empty chair across from Droki and has a seat. The gnome begins incantations and hand gestures. Shortly thereafter, Droki regains consciousnesses.
Droki looks around at his new surroundings. Far from the cave he last remembers being in and unsure of where exactly he is.
Interrogator - “I’m Wrexim. You’re Droki. Do we have at least that much established?” He says matter of factly. Droki nods. “Good. How long have you been the errand boy of the Gray Ghosts?” He asks.
Droki - “I’m not an errand boy! I’m a professional courier! Packages I deliver. Honest work!” He says proudly and yet timidly.
Wrexim - “No, Droki. I asked how long.” He says again, this time with clearly limited patience.
Droki - "I...I don't know. Years? Wait...I can't remember."he says, looking down and obviously confused by his lack of memory.
Wrexim - "Hmm...Interesting." He says, while taking out a notebook from his coat and jots down something that Rowland can't see. "What do you know of the Gray Ghosts?" he asks sternly.
Droki - "I..." then his erratic head movements begin and Droki begins to convulse!
