Trimyrai: (to the party) "If the danger is passed, perhaps we could save it for later."
(OOC: If you wish to discuss the items while traveling, I should mention your options. You can chose to take a short or long rest, now or later. Your group will need to travel about half a mile to exit the forest. It is 5 miles from there to yesterday's campsite alongside the road north.
Or you could take a more direct path to Greensville. If you use a fast march, you could reach the road (at a point north of the campsite) and get to the Evergreen River as the sun is setting, and the village by early nightfall. The strain of a day's march at that speed will be recovered with a night's rest. And traveling that distance is assuming that the trip is peaceful. Fast marching will lower your Perception of your surroundings.)

It is about noon. The various fights and cave searching used up the morning.
Trim remembers the sign on the river ferry that he used to get to Nunkreet; it stops operating when it is dark. Taking a short rest, or moving less than a fast march, will probably mean the party camping somewhere south of the river, instead of sleeping in an inn tonight.

Reverie nods at Trim and Froskan's opinion. She wants to take a good rest but not at the outside, camping. Her blue-green hues shift to Jack and then she asks, "Jack, would you be able to put these items inside of your bag? We can discuss these later."

"Yeah, I can do that." Jack puts everything except the spikes (that would be important) in the bag. "We don't want to rip the bag now. I'll hold this."
(OOC: The march is uneventful. But there may be times in the future when I might do something if the group isn't being cautious, so don't let your guard down or forget to mention any precautions.)
Your party goes half a mile to exit the forest as quickly as possible, then another 7 miles NE across the plains to get to the northern road. You then trot another 15 miles north on the road. (For the hand-drawn map in post 655 , this dirt/pebble road is a vertical line just east of letter "E", that connects the river to the Primus Road.) You feel a bit tired going at a fast pace for several hours (and after your fights this morning), but you hear the river flowing before the sun has gone below the horizon.
There is a short wooden pier at the river's edge, where the ferry docks normally. It is empty. Looking across the river (about 60 yards wide), you can see the ferry docked on the other side. It is a cross between a pontoon and a rowboat, but large enough to carry 4 horses and their riders. (More than enough for 5 adventurers.) You see a single humanoid figure on the other side, who seems to be tying up the ferry and putting away the oars. His back is turned, and has not noticed you.
(Your turn to act.)

Trim gets the figure's attention. He stands there for a moment, flustered at new customers just as he was closing for the day, but the gleam from Jack's silver catches his eye. He puts two oars in the boat, unties it from the short pier, and rows the ferry to your side.
The boat travels in a straight line across, despite the current and the frailty of the ferryman rowing the huge vessel. It is wrapped in a tattered cloak, its hands and forearms almost skeletally thin. When it has docked on your side, most of you are startled to see that it is a merrenoloth, the boat keepers of the infernal yugoloths. Trim apologizes about not warning you earlier. (As a tiefling, he forgot that this being is unusual.) This ferryman is under a geas to transfer people, and not harm them.
You hear a telepathic voice, in halting Common. "One silver piece per person now... one more per person on the far side..." It stands in front of the boat, hand out, palm up.
(OOC: If you accept, we will worry about the accounting later. Don't adjust your finances at this time.)
(OOC: Jack, you are headed away from Nunkreet, to Greensville. After you complete the current errand, you also asked Bommie for a job near the ocean. When that is over, I figured you might return to Nunkreet.)

(I think this is the DMs way of telling us we might not make it to the other side, or if we do, we may not need to worry about paying for the trip anymore :P)
Froskan holds up 2 silver coins of his own, placing one in the ferryman's palm, then tucking the other away again.
Reverie blinks for a moment as soon as she finds the ferryman is a bit unusual for her. Well, since it seems he would help her group, she put a silver coin on the ferryman’s palm.

(OOC: I figured it would be easier to deduct it from your eventual job payment, rather than micromanage a SP here and a SP there. Unless it is a big payment, your characters can build up a tab.)
Jack already had his silver ready, so also puts a coin in its hand.
The ferryman hesitates just a hair longer at Trim's language, but otherwise collects the coins with mechanical silence. It steps aside until you are all on the vessel. Then it crouches down by the oars and starts to row. The trip to the south side of the river took 3 minutes, and the trip to the other side takes exactly the same time, despite the extra weight of your party in the boat. The ferryman ignores your group in silence, until the vessel reaches the northern pier. It then steps onto the pier, blocking your path, holding out an open hand, waiting for another silver coin.
