As you leave the room and leave the women inside as well as the teens I need to know what is the preferred marching order now. Plus where do you wish to go or do next.

Bastion nods, "It sounded like they left a surprise for us, probably an ambush or a trap, so take it slow, and eyes wide open. Kat, can you bring up our rear?"
Bastion and Avan will take the lead, with Rivoril and the jackal just behind, Kat at the rear as mentioned, everyone else watching each other's backs in between. The group will slowly proceed towards the room with the broken stairs, checking each side room passed just to be sure nothing is waiting in them.

"Bastion, For suspicions, I think I'm going to check for magic from where I walk. I will let known if I see it."For the first bit, with his familiar on his shoulder, Kixarn will cast Detect Magic, both he and Korvo scanning the ether for signs of magical traps, tricks or terrors. He will call out, if anything is spotted.
“Can you tell me the difference between a witch and a wizard?" "Sure, a wizard is what they call you when they want to hire you, and a witch is what they call you when they're getting ready to run you out of town.” SunWolf replied ― Barbara Hambly, The Witches of Wenshar
Kat grips her weapons tightly as they head out. She spends most of her time listening and scanning to the rear of the group and the side passageways as she passes by them.
You make it back to the room with the broken stairs once again with no issues or any signs of resistance. You do not hear anything odd or see anything out of the ordinary both mundanely and magically.

Avan casts Light on an arrow and shoots it down as he's done before, aiming towards the south side to light up the tunnel exit, and looking to see what's around where it lands. He thoroughly checks the makeshift pulley system to see if the ropes haven't been tampered with in our absence.

Kat looks around curiously. The whole situation worries her. It was not going to be easy to escape this place. She keeps a close watch behind them to make sure that they aren't caught unawares.
There is no rope at the hole that you can see. The arrow goes through the darkness that is just below the hole and disappears. You are unable to see through the darkness once again.
Bastion looks down at the magical shadows with concern. Once again they hid what needed to be seen from the group. How best to minimize the danger...
Pulling out several pitons and the rest of his rope, Bastion pulls the others a little away from the hole's edge before quietly stating, "I would be surprised if there is not something waiting for us at the bottom, we could be in serious trouble if we go down one by one. So here is what I propose, hammer in several of these pitons, set up as many lines as we can manage, and then we rappel down, several of us at a time. It will still be dangerous, but at least that approach won't have the first person to go fighting on their own. For an extra touch, we can have Kix fireball the bottom just before we drop the ropes. Ideas?"
Kat nods in agreement. " Let me come up closer. I have an idea. " She walks up to the front and looks down over the edge. Reaching out mentally she seeks out any undead nearby.
OOC: She uses her detect undead ability. 60 foot range and she will continue for several turns to get the full benefit She will be able to sense any undead within 60 feet and will be able to gauge their relative strength.
"When we fell with the stariwell the landing was quite soft from the bones below," Avan informs. "So it may be safe to drop down all together as a group. I also prepared Daylight and I can use it to counter this darkness if it's not too powerful. Or summon a small Earth elemental, a less potent spell, but more of a waste as it won't persist for long. Kixarn, what does your magic detection tell us about the power of this effect?"
When answered, Avan adds, "Are we ready with all our protection spells, or do we fear it's too early and they will go to waste?"
Kat does not sense anything. The floor of the room below is 80 feet down this there could be a room full of undead and she would not be able to sense it.
Bastion states, "We fell from perhaps fifteen to twenty five feet up. I doubt those bones will help much falling from eighty. Even falling into water can kill at that height, and the bones weren't that soft."
"I concur with Bastion lets secure the pitons and have several, or a few go down at one time. But first with Kix sending a fireball down to the bottom for good measure. I will volunteer to go down in first or second batch. Which ever it is you prefer,"? Rivoril, says taking a look down the black hole.
Kat shakes her head in frustration. " I sense nothing down there that is undead. With the darkness spell i have no idea how far to the bottom though. I might not have the range needed to sense something. Guess we all get ready to descend in a hurry. "
Kixarn, peering into the darkness, worries about what awaits the group at the bottom. Casting Mage Armor on himself and his companion, he says "Fireball is a good idea, yes. If nothing can be heard, maybe nothing is there? Could also cast Web into the floor and catch things, but spending magic without targets isn't wise. Maybe something acid on the floor, from the voice who spoke about delaying us? Tell me when you want the Fireball dropped."Remembering the distance down, he sighs at his lack of physical skills.

Avan casts a Daylilght on an arrow but doesn't fire it like the last one. He ties it to any spare string or rope that's around (if desperate, he'll tear at his spare robe to unstitch a thread, tying them together until they're 80') then lowers it until it negates the darkness, so the prevailing light conditions dominate (the light from the arrow already at the bottom).
"You should be able to see the targets now if there are any," Avan offers. "I suggest the strongest goes down first so that if they ambush to split us, whoever's down there has a fighting chance. With my jackal on the rope, he may not be able to get down as easily as us. We'll have to rig up a pulley on some of the pitons with all of us letting him down on the other end - which means we need double the height in rope... Unless someone has a different idea."
Using the arrow with the daylight spell on it you lower it into the hole where it negates the darkness spell you all see the other arrow down below in a room that if cleaned out of anything useful besides a pile of bones that is now in the corner. The broken stairs are gone. Other wise the room is empty. The floor is still 80 feet down.
"How many ropes do we need?"Kixarn asks, pulling out his coil of rope and a shovel. "I have this, which can become a rope. I may need help to make it so."

Kixarn sits down and concentrates and the shovel collapses into a pile of shimmering black sand. It starts to shift and bubble and slowly forms coils of tight, strong rope. With a sigh and wiping beads of sweat from his brow, he picks it up and hands it to whomever is tying the rappelling lines off. "Here. This will hold well and good, as long as I am nearby."

Bastion nods as Avan's spell clears the darkness, "Nicely done. Lets set the ropes and get down there. We'll rig up the same pully system we used last time for the jackal. But first..."
He points to the bone pile, "That moved, or was moved, and we are dealing with a necromancer. Let's hit it with a few arrows before going down there shall we? See if there's any life to it, so to speak at any rate."
Bastion will string his own bow and loose a few arrows in the direction of the pile. If it proves to be nothing more than it appears, he'll start hammering in the pitons and rigging up the ropes so that several can descend at once.
If no one else has rope, we should be able to get 5 down at once not including the jackal, or 4 including the jackal.
