"That thing is a friend if mine, and his name roughly translates into common as Jeremy. I summoned him years ago to act as a security guard, and he does his job well."
Derathos looks at the winged creature as it flies away, a slight sense of fear coming into him. "I would hate to get into a tangle with that thing," he said, then gave a sidelong glance to the undead barkeep. This place, what he once thought was a simple swamp town, was turning out to be more and more curious. "If you don't mind me asking, how is it you're... around?"

Othorion Sarfir - Half-Drow Eldritch Knight - The Murder Court
Maklindek was sitting down pretending to work on using the pole to steer occaisionally, he has ale to his side and is eating a traveling ration, when he see's the winged creature he gets up in a alert reaction 13 initiatively he says " I think we have a battle coming, this could be one of those guards who didn't let me pass to what I thought was the swamp before", But the look in maklindek's eyes showed revealed something else he had reflected a image of himself only with wings flying around. He smiles at the winged one and waves while saying to the others, I don't think there will be any trouble with the winged ones".
Naeris started to consider his odds of surviving if hostile creatures showed up, he could easily handle Goblins or bears, but if there was an exceptionally dangerous threat getting out unscathed might not be an option. He was fairly certain the barkeep would be more likely to fight gainst them than with them, but the other seemed trustworthy. Derathos was probably more suited to combat than Naeris, but he wasn't sure about Remi, her initial impression made it seem like she wouldn't be very useful, but something about her made Naeris feel like she might be able to hold her own.
It might be nice if they had more people but the likelihood of there being four adventurers in a rundown town in the middle of nowhere is probably next to impossible.
"Barkeep, how much longer till we reach the house?"
Remy looks among the crew on the "ship". It was just a boat she was after, not necessarily company, she did after all, have some business to tend to. After the winged creature took flight, she withdrew her bow. knocking an arrow, she took aim at a few minor critters, noting the wind and lighting. She gives a look toward Naeris where she makes brief eye contact and stows her gear, grabbing once again the pole they are pushing with.
Shit shit shit he thought. Tok just ran, or tried. The woods had long given way to swamp and marsh still he trudged on. No one had chased him from the city but still he spent days running stopping only to sleep. His rations were running low and the water tasted terrible. His mind was beginning to play tricks on him. As he rested against a tree, still in ankle deep water on the roots he heard voices.
I think there is. Right now there is a group of us (the number of people actually still playing is unsure) making our way to a haunted/cursed house through a swamp. There are other locations in town which none of us have explored that you can roleplay or you can try to get in on the action like Tamu above has. Good luck!
Merkur trudged on ward toward his closest thing he could call a home. Still at least a week out before arriving at the dwarven fortress known as the Hall of Raythor, his mind idled that maybe this journey was trying to tell him to turn back. He had to admit his life was pretty comfortable at Cano but then added under his breath "a stone unmoving grows brittle, but placed with decisive thought builds castles" It was something his mother always told him growing up, which meant as best he could guess that those who sit by will achieve nothing but those that do will achieve great things. The ground was giving way from rolling prairies to wet soggy ground. Through the thick vegetation he saw something that he thought resembled some buildings. He surmised from his studies that he must be near Marshwater, and not a moment too soon either. His stomach gave a loud growl letting him know that he was famished.
Pausing again for a moment Remy sniffs the air and adjusts her ears. "I'm not sure if it's another one of your friends or what, but someone or something is out there."
Barkeep turns to address the passengers aboard his raft.
"Not far. In fact, there it is!"
He points towards an indistinct shape floating in the marsh, and rows towards it. Upon arriving, the house is fully visible. It stands about 3 stories tall, with the first story sunken halfway into the marsh. The raft stops next to an overhanging balcony on the second floor.
"Here's your stop."
The balcony has one door leading into the house.
Meanwhile, in the town of Marshwater:
Merkur is approached by a rather tall (like 7 feet tall, this lad HUGE) man in a hooded cloak. The tall man wears some kind of holy symbol in the shape of a feathered serpent, and the cloak itself has a serpent-based pattern.
"What brings you to this town, stranger? Pilgrimage? Travelling? Seeking riches, perhaps?"
Merkur says: " i am passing through but could always use riches. I seek refuge for a day two at max as i must return home." "Are you from around here."
"Of course I'm from around here. I'm the town priest. As for lodgings, finding them should be easy. The Alligator Gar has lodgings, so long as you don't mind sleeping in a bar owned by a living corpse. Also, steer clear of the mayor. I saw him walking the streets, and people tend to disappear when he does."
"Barkeep's been here as long as anyone can remember and he doesn't raise any trouble, so there isn't much point in trying to get rid of him. Besides, people would miss him, and he knows the swamp around here mighty well."
