I plan to try to keep this a party of 5 and will try to pick tomorrow. If anyone else wants to apply before then feel free! I am going to pick based on which monsters and classes will make the best party as well as which players I think will be able to post frequently and reliably. (The reason I am making this game is because my other game died after the holidays because 3 / 5 players essentially disappeared.)
Backstory: Adventure was just an average tiefling adventurer. Overeager. Over confident. Thought the world revolved around him. He also thought he could take a basilisk alone.
Needless to be said, he was petrified. Draax had hear of his failing, and came to see if he was dead. To his surprise, he wasn’t! Adventure was just petrified! He had a few minions kill the basilisk, take some parts, and transformed Adventure into a stone cursed. He had him do terrible things, terrible terrible things. Adventure was near invincible! A great fighter, willingly or not! Used in horrific experiments and battles, Adventure is cursed for life.
Availability to post Usually 3-4 times per day, at least 1. Name Ay'ra Race (Tiefling / drow) class Barbarian backstory
After having lost Lloth favor, and beign nearly wipe out by the attack of a rival House, the Matriarch, out of desesperation offered her first daughter and service to a Greater Demon in exchange to power to anihilate her enemies. The Demon took the daughter as a wife and promised the Matriarch that the offspring of such union will be her weapon. The priestess died during the birth of the creature, but the matriarch got her weapon. A Female born of the union of the drow and the demon lord. She was raised as a tool, as aweapon against the enemies of the house, and the child knew nothing but the paranoia and the desire to kill of her grandmother. Unfortunately, these schemes weren't unnoticed by Llotlh and in her rage, she commanend the rest of the houses of the city to obliterate the family who commited such an heresy.
The Demon Lord showed up and took the child with him, leaving the matriarch to her death and the house was wiped out.
Raised from then on in the Nine Hells, as a tool for her master, the creature has known nothing but pain and suffering and obedience. But something has happened and now is free. She knew it. She is free to, for the first time in her whole existance, her bidding. And that scares and excites her off at the same time.
Link to character / homebrew race if possible. I do not know if the hombrew race link will work but I hope that the character one does.
I believe you need to use a monsters stat block. Look at the OP. Then make your character submission.
Yeah I read it thanks, but I am proposing it anyway... I think it's an interesting concept to play. In fact I recoverd it from an old group that started more or less from the same premises... a bunch of monsters trying to thrive in the world, just beign freed from a freak show circus. And she is a monster...
If the concept is not selected due to this, it's ok, it was fun remembering her and creating the race anyway :)
Availability to post Several times a day, not sure exactly how many, but I'm on a lot. Name Mad Jack Race Scarecrow(I know it isn't a fiend, undead, monstrosity, aberration, or elemental, but I got the idea that you were mostly just going for monstrous/evil creatures, and a scarecrow ticks both of those boxes, being an incredibly evil soul, bound into a freaky scythe wielding bag of straw, sticks, and nightmares.) class Warlock of the Hexblade(Scythe Hex Weapon(Using longsword stats) backstory John "Jack" Orren Lanturne was merely an average farmer, tending his land, not bothering anyone. That is, until he found the blade. It all began when one of his farmhands was messing around with his scythe, and broke it. Jack forgave him, of course, for he was a kind fellow. He went down to the town to purchase a new one, but there were none available. Jack cursed his luck and was ready to head home, when he purchased a small shop that he had never noticed before. Surely it wasn't there last time, right? No, it had to be. It's not like shops just pop out of nowhere, right? Anyways, he entered, and was delighted to find that they had a brand new scythe for sale! And for so cheap! So he bought it, and went back to his home. That night, his dreams were plagued with terrors unimaginable, and he tossed and turned all night.
Now, as you may be wondering, this lucky find wasn't as lucky as Jack thought, for the shop had in fact popped out of nowhere, and not with the intention of helping out an unlucky farmer. In fact, this was one of many traveling shops that had been set up by the demon lord Draxx to corrupt mortal souls. They were filled with evil, cursed items that they dished out to unwitting victims in the hopes that they would drive the mortals to evil. In this case, the item was more than successful.
In the next few weeks, folks started noticing things about Jack. He was irritable and standoffish, no longer his kind, cheerful self. Then one of the farmhands disappeared, the same one that broke Jack's scythe. And the next day, Jack erected a new scarecrow that bore a striking resemblance to that same farmhand. The days went on. Jack's condition worsened. People enquired about it. They disappeared too. More scarecrows appeared, one after another. Eventually, some people began to notice a strange connection between the scarecrows dotting Jack's land, and the disappeared folks. And then one day, one person looked at a scarecrow up close, and realized something horrible. The scarecrows were, rather than made of sacks filled with straw on a wooden frame, made of the skins of the disappeared folks, stuffed with straw! When they heard of this, the townspeople were... well, saying they were angry would be putting it mildly. A mob stormed up to his farmhouse, all waving pitchforks and flaming torches, and threw him out on the ground. One man approached, a man who Jack recognized as the father of the farmhand he had slaughtered. The man pulled out a knife. A loud scream echoed out over the hills, then was abruptly cut off.
The next day, a new scarecrow stood over the fields, scythe in hand. A scarecrow bearing the face of Jack O. Lanturne.
Now, it was assumed that it was all over, and life could return to normal. Of course, we all know it wasn't. You see, such evil as that of "Mad Jack"(This was the nickname the townsfolk had attributed to the killer) is simply too great to be limited by something as trivial as a mortal lifespan. No, Mad Jack's evil went on, even after death. People disappeared. Scarecrows appeared. Folks whispered that possibly Mad Jack wasn't gone after all. People began reporting hearing maniacal laughter echoing from the fields, which the more superstitious folks attributed to Mad Jack. Eventually, some people were sent up to burn the scarecrows, to be rid of them forever. But when they came to torch Mad Jack, he was gone. Gone to join the armies of Draxx, to spread evil and discord over the realms. Link to character / homebrew race if possible. Will attempt to create a race later, character link won't be available 'till then.
**** Somethings to consider when picking your monster****
-Is the monster you are choosing something that is going to be able to equip items? (specter and avatar of death are going to have items float right through them... some creatures don't have hands for holding weapons and putting on rings) Yes, though it might be ruled that heavier items are unwearable, due to the scarecrow being made of sticks and straw
-is the monster you are choosing something that is going to be able to disguise itself under armor / clothes if trying to move through town without scaring the pants off everyone. If it wears enough concealing clothing and keeps its head down, probably. A warlock's illusory capabilities could help too.
-does your monster speak a language or even have a mouth or other ability to communicate? (I am flexible on this but some monsters will still have problems with this) The stat block says that it can't speak, but I think that's most likely due to it just not being self aware or anything, just a mindless killing machine. Judging by how the art shows it with a mouth, and that it needs to be able to produce sound in order to laugh maniacally as it terrorizes... well... everything(Any scarecrow that can't laugh maniacally doesn't deserve to call itself a scarecrow), I'd say it would be able to at least speak a little.
- Are you going to be able to contribute to the team in meaningful ways outside of combat?
Being made entirely out of non-organic substances such as straw and sticks and whatnot could possibly prove helpful in certain circumstances, and being a spellcaster also has its merits, of course.

Also, I could change anything of the race if you want... that is just a proposal :)
Backstory:John Lee is a human who fell on hard times. His parents neglected him. No one cared for him. He was depressed. By the time he was 18, he thought he couldn’t live like this anymore. He then found Draax, who promised to make his life great if he worshipped him. He didn’t know what he got into. John Lee backed out when he had to start sacrificing people, but Draax asserted Dominance and forced John to.
The way this works is that when he touches the relic, his assertion is over, and John is free.
OK, I am going to review the submissions I received and will let people know. This is always my least favorite part because I like to keep my games to around 5 players or so and I received a lot of intrest. If any of you don't think you will be able to at least post 2 times a day (normally, I understand when things come up and have a life myself) please let me know. I have found that people not posting is the #1 killer of these types of games so I am looking for players that will be active. Thanks! I will send PM's to people and post the list of players I have chosen in the thread. thanks!
Not going to lie, I got it down to like 9... these last 4 cuts are going to be rough lol! Especially because I had a number of users sending PM's to make sure they were applying correctly and so I appreciate the effort put forth by many people that applied.
I will keep everyone posted :D
