Xel telepathically commands Nihm, his Owl familiar, to distract the Zombie in H6. Nihm will Aid Xel so that Xel's attack will have advantage over the Zombie.
Xel will move to F5 (15 feet) for an unobstructed view and cast Chill Touch at the Zombie with Advantage. Xel will then move to C8 (15 feet) with his remaining movement.
The pain from the initial attack has subsided but still lingers. Xel cautiously moves closer to the Zombie and seeing that it still is near Epos and is a danger to HDP casts Chill Touch on it. Speaking the words while instinctively grasping his staff, Xel once again directs the arcane energies to strike his foe.
Attack Role 1 : 24
Attack Role 2 : 21
Damage Role : 8
After releasing the arcane energy, he moves further away.
The zombie is struck down by Xel's arcane attack. It ...
... briefly lies still, then shudders and starts trying to get back up again.
Shaking his head in resignation, the Herr Doktor Professor casts Cure Wounds on Epos: he is back up 6 hit points.
OOC:Given the difficulties putting down these undead, all of your characters suspect they're facing zombies, which are notoriously hard to kill. You know from.common lore that the best way to get a zombie to stay dead is to destroy its brain (in effect, a critical hit) so note that you attack with advantage when hitting something prone. Also, Epos -- I'll allow you to resolve the results of your first attack, then give me options for what you'll do with your second attack.
Epos comes to, feeling the invigorating magic healing, feeling a bit disoriented. He had spent some long hours climbing up the stairs in that white tunnel of light, wondering which masters he would meet at the summit of the stairs. On the 10,257th step, though, he felt himself yanked back... and staring up the rotting posterior of a zombie.
He steals a quick glance around, sees the bloody-throated doctor to the bald, then looks back up the zombie's ass and realizes precisely where he is... and when this is...
Startled at the realization,, he bolts straight up, his hand instinctively gripping the staff that was right by his hand... the hardest part of his head on the zombie's butt (OOC: Does this cause damage or knock the zombie down?)
Sensing the danger to HDP, Epos launches into an attack. OOC: Where is the other Zombie?
Epos attacks the Zombie right in front of him - attempting to bash it's head in with his staff Attack: 17 Damage: 10. OOC: If the creature is killed he, will move 3 sq to G9, Otherwise, attack again with a kick to the head Attack: 11 Damage: 7
Zombie Constitution saving throw for Epos's first attack (DC 20):7.
OOC: The zombies are not prone at the moment.
Not leaving anything to chance, Epos bashes in the zombie's head with his staff -- he sees gray matter oozing out of its ears. His belief that he has stuck its brain is confirmed when the zombie falls and doesn't move again. He then moves towards Khial and the last zombie.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Xel telepathically commands Nihm to distract the Zombie in J11.
OOC: Nihm will Aid Khial to his next attack against the Zombie. If allowed, Khial will be granted advantage to his next attack against the Zombie.
Xel rushes to the side of HDP. He does not know neither healing magic or have any magical balms or potions for bring back HDP to consciousness. He hopes that Epos and Khial are enough for the final Zombie. He quickly tears of a strip of cloth from his robes to use as a makeshift bandage. Xel is familiar with basic battlefield medicine tries to stem the bleeding from HDP's throat.
Medicine Check (to Stabilze HDP) : 10
If Xel is able to stabilize HDP, Xel uses his remaining movement to move to G8.
OOC: Give me the flight plan of owl, please. In what squares will it pass? Xel recalls from Epos's stick experiment earlier that nonliving things can pass through the barrier.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Khial sees the owl that has been hanging around Xel fly into the grove and (somewhere between H8 and I9) explodes into a bloody red (and feathery) mist.
OOC: I was going to allow a save for half damage, Xel, but your familiar only has 1 hit point. Also, Khial where is your attack bonus on the roll? If you add the attack bonus, then your attack hits the zombie.
Zombie Constitution saving throw (DC 16): 5.
The zombie falls ... and doesn't get up again!
OOC: Combat is over! Tell me what your characters do now. After all your adventures with this trap, you notice that the sun is now clearly descending in the sky. Night will be upon you in a few hours. Also, tell me if anyone successfully stabilizes the Herr Doktor Professor.
HDP death saving throw: 1. He currently has one failed death save; two more and he croaks.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
OOC: What kind of attack hit the Owl?
Xel continues to try to stop HDP from bleeding out. From the corner of his eye he sees the final Zombie fall at the hands of Khial. He also doesn't need to look but he knows his familiar has been "dismissed", the telepathic bond he shares with it suddenly being broken.
OOC: Happy Bday Mike

The zombie rips out the Herr Doktor Professor's throat; the bard falls to the ground, his blood seeping into the soil.
Though clearly on their last legs, these two zombies seem determined to take down the whole party!

Xel, your turn is up!
OOC: The last zombie is within the barrier? Is the barrier still up? Since Khial was able to hit it, does that mean the barrier is down?
OOC: How much movement does it take to go through the trees? 10 feet per square?
While moving towards Khial, Epos calls out to Xel, the Magic-Man: "The good doktor needs help! I pray you have some remedy for a throat problem..."
