Leto will nod, and after filling his waterskin, stand up, pull out a dagger, find a tree which is easily visible from the pond ((is it a pond by the waterfall? a stream?)), and carve into it a mark pointing back to the direction from which they started.

(There is no waterfall. You can hear one, coming from the path straight.)

((ah, well then how far is it? Hurmur has been heading towards it specifically, with the group behind. I assumed that unless something happened on the way we would be at it.))

On seeing the three paths, I return and tell Anastacia: "The path forks ahead, water is ahead. I'll check the paths left and right to make sure we're not missing anything. Don't get caught in a trap." With those quick words, I turn and veer towards the right-side path to have a look (going along for about 50ft). I switch to my shortbow and go inconspicuously (still the same, will flank the path about 40ft away). If there is nothing much of interest or I observe danger of any sort, I'll head back and try the left-side path.

As you all approach the sound, you expect a waterfall, but instead see a humanoid figure, an elemental, talking to what appears to be a Warforged, with a mark on his head and body in the shape of a white dagger dipped in a purple liquid. The elemental looks scared. This being apparently holds a lot of power, as there is a stinging aura of fear around him. 

Everyone, roll stealth! (DM Hint: This guy is very, very, very powerful.)

Even you, strange creature! The humanoid waterfall seems to run, scared. However, you watch as multiple fiends, which Hurmur will later identify as Vargouille come flying down to attack it. They yell out in common, Run! Run! Get away! Take the path on the right of the second fork! It will leaD you to a safe place! The warforged screams. Help! Help! These things... no!
