Silver just spits on the ground and looks at the man as he talks "Did any of those assaults end in death? Any of your victims women or children?" he asks as the man begins to exit the room.

"Great... we need to talk to the Magistrate. Haven't we spoken to one of the Lord of the Council or something like that before?"

Outside

" So how do you think they're doing in there?", Selinae asked the others.

"Don't know but Silver is good at getting answers" he tells Selinae.

The man pauses at the door and grins at Silver, "I admit to nothing."

"Well, that was unfortunate.  I bet he doesn't even know where the stone is.  Should we entertain the idea of trying to talk to the magistrate about him?  Or mark that up as a lost cause?"

"And what else do we have to go on? Let's talk to the others first, I am not sure we wish to just talk to the Magistrate, unless we just clarify the charges."

Kestrell leads the way back outside and brings everyone up to speed.

"So, there you have it.  Should we go talk to the wizard lady about an ice box?"

"I think we should check with her about the charges and then maybe find leverage."

Phaedra heads back in to talk to the Magistrate.

"Excuse me Magistrate Barch, are you able to clarify the charges that Fenerus is facing?"

Silver just looks at the man waiting for him to leave "Not helping him. If women and children were harmed he deserves death." with that he just stays quiet as Phaedra takes the lead on the rest of the conversation.

Magistrate Barch just looks at Phaedra for a moment before seeming to come to a decision. "Fenerus Stormcastle was the founder of the Blood Hawk Posse, a gang of horse-riding brigands that, to this day, harries travelers on the road to Amphail. The story I heard was that he botched a raid so the rest of the gang forced Fenerus out. He 'retired' to Waterdeep and joined the Guild of Chandlers and Lamplighters. Agents of the Lords’ Alliance recently labeled Fenerus as a wanted brigand and notified the Lords of Waterdeep, who sent the City Watch to arrest him and now he's in my custody pending trial. But we're still building the case against him. Between you and I, what I have right now is a lot of hearsay and conjecture and little real evidence."

The magistrate takes a drink from a cup on her desk before righting herself and continuing, "What, may I ask, is it that you're attempting to learn from this pitiful excuse of a human?"

"Thank you for the information Magistrate. We believe he may be able to help us in regards to an investigation we are undertaking into a murder. He may know something that may help us discover those involved... in a round about way. Do you know who ordered his arrest by any chance?"

"Only that it was ordered by one of the Lords Of Waterdeep.

Magistrate Barch appears to be thinking for a moment before looking over to the knight in the corner of the room, "Go and fetch the rest of this one's party and bring them into the court room. Politely."

Once the night leaves the office the magistrate turns back to Phaedra, "You say you're looking into a murder. You've claimed you come on behalf of the Church of Mystra and the Watchful Magists and Protectors which, at best, was an exaggeration. And seeing how it's just the two of us now, I'll confide in you that the scroll from Mage Blastwind simply said that your group, particularly the ranger, could be massively annoying and that I should help you just because then you would go away sooner. Furthermore neither the church nor the magists have authority over a murder investigation within Waterdeep anyway. If you want more help from me, I'm going to need more truth from you. Let us head to the court room and wait for your friends and see if we can work something out."

With that, she stands from her desk and walks toward the door.

Those of you outside are soon greeted by a Knight of the guard. "Your presence is requested by Magistrate Barch. All of you, please follow me." The knight turns and heads back into the courthouse, clearly expecting to be obeyed.

Elon is surprised by the knight but reluctantly follows into the court room.

"What's going on now?"

"You know I will have words with Barnubus after this. He has never liked Kestrell and he never comes to confession, even when I light candles for him," Phaedra says with a clear hurt tone in her voice.

"Barnubus? In a temple?" chuckles Magistrate Barch. "That miracle may be too big even for your Lady of Magic."

"It is my job to try to guide all who experience the call of Our Lady of Magic Magistrate Barch. If they wish it or not and I will not give up on Barnubus. He is a good man who tries hard to right the wrongs committed in this city but as you know yourself, it is often an overwhelming job and he could benefit from allowing her faith in."

Phaedra adds as an aside, in a whisper, "Especially with the Cult of Asmodeus working within the city..."

The magistrate chuckles, "If you only knew. My dear, you can't have a city as large as Waterdeep and not have problems with cultsss." she says, stressing the s sound. "Yes, plural. They are an annoyance, that is for certain."

Once everyone is in the courtroom the magistrate walks to center and speaks, "Thank you all for coming in. For those who don't know me I am Magister Hester Barch. I wanted to lay eyes on all of you as you've been the source of gossip in some circles recently. Some think you're a menace to society and some think you're honorable citizens and everything in between. Perhaps you can help me decide for myself. What is it that you need from Fenerus Stormcastle and why?"
