The Long Road of the Mage King (Game Thread)

Once the trap is out of the way, picking the lock is easy. The chest pops open to reveal:

 Gash puts everything into the bag of holding. "Did you find anything else? He obviously isn't here."

Tock shakes his head, looks around and says, "So how do we find the person? Let the others in and wait for him? Not that we have too much time to spend. Lets go talk to the others? Be careful."

He helps Gash to navigate around quietly (Blessing of tye Trickster - advantage on stealth checks for 1h I believe) 

Gash casts message to Martin: "He's not here. There doesn't seem to be a sign of much. There seems to be a hit list... We need to go to Vivora now." Since I'm down there i'm going to assume I see the hit list on the wall as well.

"Out the way we came, we're teleporting to their hotel."

Gash sneaks back to the ceiling and climbs down. "Everyone gather together. Vivora might be in trouble." Gash riffles through the bag of holding, and grabs the letter they stole from her room and then uses the helm to teleport into their hotel room.

Tock, Gash, Althus, Martin, and Bulwark all materialize in Axonia's princely suite while they are eating dinner (unless anyone tells me otherwise). They stop mid-conversation and look at the adventurers wide-eyed. Viviora actually leaps out of her seat, spilling her tray of food in the process. Axonia dabs her mouth with a napkin and then stands, brushing her clothes of any wayward crumbs.

"These are private quarters," she states flatly.

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Please don't be alarmed. We just came from the apartment of the assassin who killed Ritter... There was a hitlist on his wall and the only name that wasn't crossed off was your Lady Vivora. We had to come as quickly as possible."

"He is not in here," Axonia says.

Dog is doing his best not to nod off in the parlor with Genny curled up on his lap, snoring away. He starts practicing some prestidigitation to pass the time. He's not looking forward to buying more horses overnight. He'll go off to Nev's room to check on her from time to time, with Genny still in his arms.

Dog:

Tock does another activation of the Gem of Seeing.

He says, "He actually might be. Is the food tasting OK? How about the drink?"

He scans the room for multiple exits and sniffs the air for smoke.

"He doesn't need to be in the room to make this a very unpleasant experience for everyone."

(Did Tock not add any HP at level 7? I have him with the same HP as during battles at level 6...)

Tock sees Axonia's true form. She is unparalleled in beauty, which is saying something from the perspective of a kenku. Large, feathered wings are tucked behind her back, composed of silky white feathers that inspires a spark of jealousy in Tock. She glows with an otherworldly magic as well, her eyes blazing with golden, heavenic light. She stares back at Tock with a flat, passive expression.

Remembering their mission, he looks around the room. No hidden assassin awaits in the shadows here. He checks every room and around every piece of furniture. The food is not magically treated, nor is the drink.

"Satisfied?" Axonia says.

Before Tock can answer, the window behind her shatters, exploding inwards as a modified, heavy and blunted crossbow bolt slams into the glass.

Initiative:

Initiative order:

Tock, Gash, Axonia, and Viviora in any order
Assassin
Bulwark, Althus, and Martin in any order.

Viviora dives underneath the table as soon as the window shatters. Axonia dives towards  Viviora, giant opalescent wings seemingly growing from her back to serve as a shield. She pulls Viviora out from under the table and drags her into the bedroom, slamming the door.

(I have no memory of how we are doing the HP,  so I might have just skipped that part when leveling up)

Tock rushes to the side of the window and readies an action to stick his dagger into anyone who jumps through from the outside.

Ready action:

Attack: 10 Damage: 8 (and in case someone else is nearby, 11 sneak attack damage as well)

Gash waits until he sees the attacker and will cast Hold Person

Wis Save DC: 15

Are either of them looking out the window (or any window?) Or are they laying in wait?

Gash would be looking out the window

Tock is not looking outside.

As Tock positions himself to strike, Gash peeks out the window.

Gash:

Gash lets his spell go. Hold Person Wis Save DC: 15

"He's going to run! Rooftops! North! GOING EAST!"
