“Can you tell me the difference between a witch and a wizard?" "Sure, a wizard is what they call you when they want to hire you, and a witch is what they call you when they're getting ready to run you out of town.” SunWolf replied ― Barbara Hambly, The Witches of Wenshar
Aleister will go for the tools and herbs: Any medicinal herbs and any herbs that might be in his book of leaves, hammers, files (wood and metal), pliers, planes, chisels (wood and metal), a tap and die set (OH! MY! manna from heaven), marlin spike and fid, saws (wood and metal) saw blades, [perhaps a tool box, hmm, just to put things in ye ken], wire, springs, pulleys, a brace and bits (wood and metal), maybe a portable vice, small chunk of railroad track? (make a dandy anvil), vials, saddle bags?, scrap leather, leather punch, leather thongs, an old bullet mold?, a few chunks of lead, copper tubes/piping (did they have a still?), nails, nut and bolts, canvas, oil cloth, wax, hatchet, draw knife, adze, awl, sailing needles (well, heavy duty needles), twine, pocket knives, pack saddle (and mule?), ink, paper/parchment, quills (or feathers), sandpaper. Aleister is very happy, in hog heaven one might say.
Genera's eyes swell with tears she runs through the corridor taking off her armour as she bumps into the others on the way, by the time she reaches her parents, her armour is off and she leaps into her fathers arms then extends her hands around her mother. She embraces them as she cries and mumbles her endeavors thus far. " we are all safe " she finally says as she kisses her parents over and over.
Lot's of hugging. Her dad looks at the armour "Now I'm sure this is a story worth telling."
" things got crazy after you left! What's going on dad ? " she said still in her father's embrace.
George gathers the gold - it's likely to be worth something somewhere to someone. People are stupid like that.
'This here is a gold mine. Seems to me you folks could trade it for residence in one of the nearby cities. You've been through an awful lot, but I'm not sure this would be very safe for you all' George looks at Genara and her family as he says this.
'We should button this place up and get moving to catch up with the rest of the kids as soon as you all are ready to move'
As George talks to her parents, Genera nodds, "Mr. Herman took the kids to Corvallis. We should go and get them."
But, these are the sorts of things a well supplied survivalist might be expected to have: I have acquaintance o people of that bent and they generally have more stuff by far. And besides, if Aleister gets most of the items on his shopping list here, well, he will not have to go to Walmart, I mean their stuff is so much junk anyway. GRIN.

Let's say that they have this stuff. You have no way of hauling it all away. The captives are also discussing staying here and keeping the farm running. "We spent the last month planting those crops and tending those animals. We heard them talking about how chaotic the world had become but no one stumbled on to this place."
"It seems to be close enough to Corvallis that we can trade but enough out of the way that it is defensible. A couple of us can go into Corvallis to collect the kids while the rest stay here and beef up the defences - get a palisade up for starters."
Speaking to the parents, George says: 'Staying here is risky, there's safety in numbers and honestly you just don't have them. We took these folks down without too much trouble - imagine what would happen if 10 or 20 people came here. But listen, that's obviously your call. We're happy to help you any way we can no matter what you decide. We're headed on to Corvallis from here. We'd be happy to escort you to Corvallis to reunite with your kids - seems to me you'd be in better shape to make a decision from there.'
OCC Aleister will fall to the floor and have a small tantrum, kick, fist-pound, bawl. That done, can't he have something? Like maybe a tap and die set?

Ooc- as far as survivalists go, the mindset is to have a lot of everything needed to do all the basics themselves. This would include full, multiple sets of tools and such, as well as years of supplies. Any family setting up here wouldn’t need much of anything for a long while.
Ooc2- I’m on vacay for the week, so my postings will be spotty
“If you plan on staying, you’re risking a lot on the chance no one bad stumbles across you. That being said, you need to keep your windows blacked out and your smoke diffused to hide your presence. And have a quick way to get to Corvallis in an emergency. Maybe some bikes or horses.”

They have decided that this place is too valuable to just walk away but they owe you... a lot. So take what you need. So most of the parents stay and a couple go with you to Corvallis to collect the children. Genera's parents will stay and they have a talk with her about what she should do "These people who helped you seem good friends and you'll need training on how to survive in this new world." If she wants, they are amenable to her sticking with you and ask that in her travels if she meets people who she trusts she should send them on to here. They've taken George's warning to heart about this place being overrun. More bodies would be useful.
'Alrighty then - if that's settled, let's get packed up and moving towards Corvallis. We need to catch up with Herman and the Professor and finish off our primary mission here - we've been distracted for far too long with kids and cannibals and crazies. I suggest we pack the Tac Armor back up - no need to scare the good folks of Corvallis. Or at least not yet'
with that, George packs up the gold and a few days worth of traveling food and prepares to set off towards Corvallis.
Genera, heartbroken at the thought of leaving her parents again. She understands that their long term survival depends on this. She sobs as she hugs and kisses her parents good bye.
After Aleister picks what he wants to take you set off for Corvallis. It is a peaceful trip with no unpleasant encounters. You come in from the west and a couple of miles from the centre of town you see many signs of organisation. There is a large Safeways store and warehouse that has armed guards. Lots of chain shirts, pikes and crossbows plus a flag that makes you choke on your trail rations
Further in to town you see a golf course that has been ploughed and planted with crops. As you go further in you see that every scrap of green space has been turned into market gardens. As you approach the University proper there is a check point with that hilarious flag again and a score of youngish people in chain with pikes and crossbows. There is an older man in, I shit you not, a tweed jacket with elbow patches who seems to be in charge.
Oh, before I forget again. The farm people set up some passwords with you so that if you send people to them they will know that its safe to trust them.
George approaches the tweeded man 'Ho there, Professor, I presume? We sent some friends of ours ahead, including one of your colleagues and a gaggle of children. I was hoping to check in on them, make sure they got here safely.'
George has changed out of his Tac Armor and is in his now customary leather armor and traveling clothes, blades sheathed and bow unstrung - looking every bit the peaceful traveler.

The man ponders for a moment "Ah yes. Professor Epps returned 2 days ago." He gives each of you a lanyard with a laminated "Visitor"' pass attached and points you toward the administration building. "Corporal" he calls 'Sir!" a young woman replies "Escort them to the Provost's office please."
She leads you into the University grounds. On the way you see troops training. Forming pike squares, practising mass crossbow tactics. Your guide explains "The history department decided our best model would be Swiss mercenary companies from the 1500's. The Ag department started the farming work as soon as we realised what had happened. The Physics department had a collective nervous breakdown but have been designing siege engines after they recovered."
