It looks like an older doe to you, Brask. Laying on its side, you can't make out any obvious wounds. It appears to have simply died from natural causes.
"I know it looks like an easy meal, but I would avoid it. It could have any number of diseases or poisons within." He gestures around him "Besides we have the whole wilderness to hunt in if we don't want rations."
As Burik begins to set his stuff down for camp, "Call me paranoid, but I don't feel like a fire tonight..."
"Agreed," Effort says. "I have a hooded lantern we can use during the watch, if you need some help seeing in the dark. Cadmael can also stay with you," she says to Brask. "I'll take the first watch tonight."
You set up camp, and Brask and Burik fall asleep fairly quickly. It was a thankfully uneventful day, but you traveled quite a distance. The first few hours of the night pass by without incident, and Cadmael returns from doing a few laps around the campsite to help wake Brask up. He hops up on the minotaur's chest, and Brask slowly stirs. As he grumbles and sits up, Effort yawns and gets ready for some rest. Cadmael launches himself back into the sky and does a quick, low loop around the clearing.
The owl stops suddenly.
No rest yet, he calls out to Effort. There's something big over here. I think it's...eating that deer carcass.
At the edge of Effort's dark vision range, she can make out rustling bushes, and something writhing within them. It looks and sounds quite big - bigger than that deer was, anyway.
Brask wakes from a pleasant dream about drinking ale from the hollowed-out skull of a gnoll he has killed. He yawns, stretches and stands up. None of these are particularly quiet.
The creature perks up as Brask noisily wakes. Shush! Cadmael insists, but it's too late.
Effort, your darkvision reveals a strange centipede-like creature crawling out of the brush. It stretches about ten feet long and has tentacle-like protrusions reaching out from under it's open mouth, which sports small but sharp teeth throughout. Huge, all black eyes focus on the group and it starts quickly crawling toward you.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The bolt of energy hits the creature dead on, sending it reeling back and ripping off a piece of its side. The flesh lands in the flowers, a few of the attached legs wriggling aimlessly.
It continues scurrying toward Brask, who it had originally been attracted to. It's tentacles snap out at the minotaur:
Attack: 18 Damage: 4
Brask, roll a DC13 Constitution saving throw or be paralyzed for one minute.
It comes down with its teeth now, snapping at your arms.
Dead deer, says Brask unnecessarily. He goes over to inspect the dead deer, looking for cause of death. Medicine 15

Brask kicks the doe into the undergrowth so he doesn't have to look at it. I'll take second watch.
Everyone, give me perception checks for your portion of the watch.
