Ulrich will take a gander at the writing to see if he can make anything out, "I say we take a look at this new path as it might lead to some old abandoned civilization and who knows what we might find there. If anything it might give us a spot to rest for the night under some shelter and then we can always come back to the path and continue on in the morning."
Despite the age, the old road is easy to follow as you head westward thanks to the occasional stones tilted up by tree roots. In a little less than a standard mile, you come across a 2nd post of stone. Time has fractured this one even more, and only a foot of it still remains standing. The rest has fallen in large chunks to the ground. The road continues east west...
Navi would pause again to update the map before taking a short break to investigate the stone post for anything interesting . Then continue on their way if there's nothing of interest.
Investigation: 21
If that's a choice of east or west, Navi would continue going west.
Continuing on (nothing else of interest in the area) westward, you come to another marker just short of mile from last marker, which has been ravaged by time. Over the last "mile", the road has been steadily and slowly rising, and there has been less of the normal "scuttling in the underbrush" as you have been traveling.
You travel a little less than a standard 1/4 mile, before you notice something ahead in the middle of the road. As it comes into clearer view (60') you realize it is a giant snake, its head rising 8 ft. above the underbrush.
"Well this should be interesting, I have wondered why we have not heard any other little creatures near by, we should have probably taken that as a warning." Ulrich will quietly whisper out.
[OOC: I assume we will be attacking it unless anyone else has any other ideas. If so my attack is below depending on my Initiative order.]
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Aye!" Navi lifts her arms up in a bit of glee before realizing how big the snake actually was. She'd pull out her shield and battleaxe while she stares up at it, "That's a big snake!" She'd crack her neck to the right, then the left. With some deep breaths, Navi would hop up and down, do some shifty feet, hop up and down a bit more to pump herself up. "Aye big fella!" She'd bang her axe to her shield to make noise to get its attention on her.
Navi would look over her shoulder to those behind her, "Go for the head, ya?"
She'd look back to the snake and bang her shield again. "Ain't I an annoying treat?" Navi would kind of pace to one side to test to see if she's got its attention and can perhaps set the others up for flanking. She'd brandish her battle axe, "Common!" Smirking, Navi would ready her battle stance.

Forgive me, first time shield user here. Can I use the dodge action and use a bonus action shove?
At maximum range, Corum calls forth a blast of Eldritch energy from his hand, striking the serpent clear on the head, there is a loud cracking sound and the head rolls away from the body and falls with a solid thud on the ground below.
"OH, well, OK then, that was unexpected. I would assume a creature of that size would be a bit hardier. Well shall we continue on an investigate the snake and see if there are any good parts left for dinner tonight?" Ulrich asks.

Georges looked with disgusted awe at the size of the snake and decided to try and aid Navi in the investigation. "We could skin this and sell it to some merchants, you know."
As you get very close to the snake, you see that it is/was actually an incredibly lifelike statue of a giant snake carved from nearly black rock.. Each scale was delicately carved and shaped on its body in details which time had not touched. The head, now laying in the ferns, was also made with lifelike details from stone, except for the eyes, which reflect the light. The tail and body of the snake stretch into the ferns on a long, low base of the same material.
Interestingly you note, the road splits around the snake, going north and south, while a much more narrow road (really more of a wide walkway) continues westward.

On his turn Corum will work his way behind the snake to find a spot the snake can't reach and wait for someone else to engage it before attacking

Corum will try to see if there is any writing on the statue (Perception 7) and try to see what the eyes are made out of.
The eyes are of onxy, and are approx 3 inches in diameter..

With a lot of wrenching and prying the stones come out with the sound of breaking stone loud in the silence of the forest.
Neither statue or pedestal have any writing on them.

A little sheepishly Ulrich states, "Oops."
"Now we have a decision to make, I suggest the walkway path as I would imagine this snake here might be a marker of some kind."
