Upon awaking from his cat-nap, Elwin decided he might as well follow Tori's lead. He stopped by Ruskor's Castle of Junk and made a few quick purchases before returning back to the Tavern to regroup.
Man, forgot we had all of these perks! Elwin will buy:
- 50 more feet of hempen rope (5sp) - a bag of 20 caltrops (5sp) - TOTAL: 1gp
Seeing Elwin has already left, Tam writes Gavin a quick note about what they've found and what they're about to do. She asks an attendant to deliver the note to Gavin personally. (Tipping, if it's appropriate)
The ranger then finds X, "C'mon, Big Boy, time for you and I to get to know one another. Let's head to the sewers to meet up with everyone else. Tell me more about where you're from. Have you ever traveled across the planes?"
The Party regroups at the Hanging Chicken, where they take a short rest, and receive their potions. I dont think anyone took any damage, but all short-rest-activated abilities recharge. As Tam issues a short prayer to the Lady of the Moon and Solonor, a feint Moonbeam peers through the window, illuminating her for a second....
Tori and Elwin make a quick stop by Ruskor's Castle of Junk, where they easily acquire the items they were looking for. As they get back to the Hanging Chicken, Gavin summons the entire Party to his new War Room, a high Vaulted ceiling, private Banquet Hall, with an epic mural painting depicting Teams1 and 2, as well as a Poem/Anthem written By Cade Underhill. At the center of the Room, a large round Table, with a Map of Talaveroth, and miniatures representing Heroes and military units. To the sides of the Room, half empty racks of shiny equipment stand up against the wall. Gavin stares gravely into the party's eyes.
(OOC: I'm assuming someone updated him on the Gingerbread Man investigation, since he is the Patron on this mission)
"If what you've found out so far is true...then we might be up against something fouler than everyone suspected. Just another Crime Lord would have been the least of my worries, but this one seems to come from another Plane...and seems to have some sort of powerful magic on its side...I also suspect that this new Mind-Controling Creature is using the ongoing War as a distraction to seed Chaos inside the City. While everyone is busy battling the Red Dragon Clan in Pinekeep, no one is really paying attention to this Gingerbread ****...and that, me' friends, is why this job has just become WAY more important than we thought...."
He slowly steps towards the equipment racks...
"Again, no one will take on this task of finding out more about this Ennemy, so I must beg of you, once more. Will you do the City this favor? If so, some special tools might come in handy...take a look..."
Each Player may choose one +1 Weapon, or armor of their preference.
Elwin was momentarily stunned, first by Gavin's resources as they entered the war room, then by the gravity of the situation as the tavern owner began to speak. Quickly composing himself, he simply nodded solemnly as Gavin concluded.
The young warlock looked over the array of equipment, but his eyes settled on one piece of brilliant white armor. He walked over and examined it before finally picking it up. "This will do."
His time had finally come. "Thank you for the vote of confidence, Gavin," he said as he turned and faced the man. Then with a steely determination entering his voice, he added, "We won't fail you... or the city."
Nice loot!
Elwin will take the armor, a white metal breastplate. I'm also retroactively having him NOT purchase chain mail from the Castle of Junk.
As an aside, I had thought the leveling up to Level 6 was only for the other groups. I'll go ahead and bump Elwin up a couple levels before he enters the sewers.
The rest of the team can presume that Elwin will follow them to the entrance as soon as they're finished.
As Elwin dons the white metal armor, Gavin comments.
"Ah, that old Elvish armor! Ruskor and I won it at a game of cards, against a High Elf Eldritch Knight of the Primordial Forest...." (The armor still bares a couple of symbols from that order, along with many tiny dents, indicating it was used in battle many times)
"Said he fought at the Floating Isles against the Arch Witch's forces. Said after he saw there, he decided to retire. Didn't even flinch when he gave up this baby...sad, but hey! I got me a High Elf armor in the process. 'Looks good on ye."
As he puts on the armor, Elwin catches "flashbacks"/glimpses of a giant battlefield, made of floating Islands over a giant Forest. On the Floating Isles, Magnificent Buildings dot the landscape, made of the finest and shiniest materials. But there is fire everywhere...and thousands of soldiers, Monsters, Hags, Evil Fey and flying creatures blocking off the very Sun by their sheer numbers. Death everywhere, blood, and thousands of screams and roars echoing amongst the clashing of steel against steel, and random blasts of magical energy, as destructive spells are slung everywhere by by the dozens. Elwin finds himself in someone else's body...cramped up amongst hundreds of other soldiers wearing the same armor, awkwardly moving in formation, towards a huge spiraling Golden Tower, led by a female High Elf...the most beautiful woman Elwin has EVER laid eyes on...She dives into a sea of Enemies, and starts cutting her way towards the Tower with an exquisite looking Silver curved blade, glowing bright on every hit. With her free hand, she channels spell after spell, carving an opening in the Mass... She shouts in Elvish (which Elwin understands, even if he doesnt speak the language) "Forward, Children of Norian! The Darkness shall not overcome us yet!"
As he charges through Hell, Elwin then suddenly comes back to his senses, back with Gavin and the Party at the Hanging Chicken...he only spaced out for a couple of minutes, but it felt like hours to him. Full battles lived within minutes...
And just like that, Elwin is now level 6 like everyone else lol 😄
Tam shoots googly eyes at Gavin when he isn't all down to business, but gives him all of her attention while he's bringing them up to date. Asking him at the end if Quickblade's family had come here for help and to see if he had heard any news of their possible retaliation. She also ponders whether they could be of use to them in the coming hunt.
After the serious talking is done and everyone is picking out their new armor, she slides up to Gavin, "So...did you worry about me at all? Did you steal a moment to even think about me?" She gives him a wink and plops down in one of the nearest leather chairs, "I'm not sure what I should pick. Maybe you could make a suggestion? I'm not used to shopping." At that last bit, she takes his hand with a playful smirk and gives it a squeeze, "I'm sure you know what I like."
Gavin scratches his beard, blushing....he takes a look at Tam's sling, and heads towards a bulky chest in a corner of the War Room...."I think I've got just the thing for ye'"
He pulls out a small burlap sack and hands it to Tam. Inside are 6 glowing Stones...Magic stones
As she inspects them, and asks about Quickblade's Family, a group of Hallying Gypsies arrive at the Tavern, and demand to speak with Gavin. Leading them is Florence's assistant lady, and the Annoucer...
"Gavin, they bloody murdered him! We need to go after this Twit quick, before its too late...the Families have all gathered, ready fer action! All we need is some good steel!"
As Gavin stolls back into the Bar area, with the Party besides him, he waves them to calm down...
"Oy! Would ye shut up for a sec! I'm already on it!" (nudges towards the Pcs).
"Some of my TOP agents have been diggin' around the City like Gophers in a field, and this goes WAY DEEPER than any of us thought...this Bloke is from a completely different Plane of existence...and controls people's minds through weird worms that he plants into their heads....some of your own people could be infected for all I know...."
looking around the different weapons and such X found an enchanted longsword and decided to replace his longsword with magically superior version before heading back over to the rest of the group with his clanking body

Elwin wasn't quite sure what happened. He only knew that he felt... stronger. More confident. As if some of the knowledge from that old battle had been imparted to him. There was even a new spell that seemed lodged into his memory--one that seemed quite potent, but which he couldn't quite wrap his mind around fully.
"How long was I out?" he suddenly wondered, looking around. Fortunately, it appeared a commotion had grabbed everyone's attention, although the young man suspected he'd still been caught gazing silently into space like someone bewitched.
Summoning his spear in a burst of cold, misty air, Elwin felt a slight modification in the magical weave the trick used, and immediately realized another oddity... he'd also received a new spell from his patron. Normally, the "old man" took the time to teach him the spell the hard way, but on occasion he just imparted the knowledge of it all at once. The warlock knew it was from his patron, as usual, but... when had he done this? At the same time the armor's memories triggered? Cheeky timing, but it did the job... he definitely didn't have time for a lesson right now.
Satisfied with his conclusions, the young man looked around at the others. "Ready when you are."
Each Player may choose one +1 Weapon, or armor of their preference.
"You might need this for this next part..."
Torment's runs her hand across several of the weapons and pieces of armor before resting her fingers on a tarnished breastplate emblazoned with a brass tree, branching beautifully up across the chest and shining against the old steel. The base of the tree-trunk is balanced with an intricate network of brass roots which balance out the canopy above, forming a delicate circular pattern of woody knots.
Tori picks the breastplate up and runs her palm across the rough surface before turning to Gavin and nodding her thanks.
…Only to raise her eyebrows in alarm as she realizes he is fully occupied by the crowd of Gypsies.
(OOC - is this supposed to be a +1 armor, or only the weapon choice would be?)
Yes, the armor is a +1😊. You may pick either a +1 armor OR a +1 Weapon. So far, Tori and Elwin chose armor, whereas X and Tam chose weapons.
X's sword was actually forged in the Lowlands by the Tinkerers Guild. It is telescopic and retractable, and may be attached to his arm, granting him the ability to quickdraw it, and immunity from being disarmed while wielding it.
Tori's armor is Also Elvish, but from the Westwoods (Wood Elves). It seems to have belonged to a Knight of the Western Courts...
Tori saunters back to X and grabs their pet drunk by the collar, dragging him back into the main area and discarding him on the floor at Gavin's feet as the Gypsies look on.
Putting a boot on his chest, she leans down and opens his eyelid wide with her right index finger and thumb and spits onto his eyeball. Giving him a light smack across the cheek with her left hand, she leans down across her bent knee and utters lowly into his face - “Mielikki’s flock does not include your squirming ilk, little worm.”
She continues in Druidic, “Toka ujionyeshe” and lets the eye snap closed, running her fingers in a circle around the man’s eye, leaving little trails of mossy growth behind her fingers as she caresses her amulet through her frock.
Command – Approach Me – to call the worm out of the man’s eye.
Pretty sure this thing can’t really make an WIS save… LOL
X watched the magic being cast as he took at the drunk before turning to Tori "would you like for me to grab the worm if it emerges" he asked as if he was preparing to reserve commands
As Tori Commands the Worm, it starts to wiggle more violently...and the Drunk man starts violently convulsing...he starts coughing blood, and his entire body starts mutating in an excruciatingly painful way, and he eventually vomits tentacles out of his mouth...and starts levitating, transforming into...a MIND FLAYER!
OOC: for those of you who haven't seen it, please check out this Baldur's gate 3 Teaser. That's pretty much what just happened...I've been wanting to do that to my Players ever since it came out hihi 😜
That's epic AF. Also, I had no idea there was a BG3. I'm so behiiiiiiiiind!
Tori finds her foot slipping from the drunk's chest as he completes his disturbing and unexpected transformation, sliding off the floor before her eyes. Her face and arms feel the mist of bloody spittle and ichor, and she tastes the drunk's poisonous bile in her mouth.
Her blood runs cold as the wet tentacles amass directly in front of her and the face of the mind flayer rises before her.
Her memories flood back… a rusty chain jingling in the darkness, the cool hatred of a Matron’s voice taunting in the distance, the sounds of shrieks and torture and muffled cries. She feels herself being drawn in…
She feels a sharp pinch in her tunic, as her amulet of Mielikki conveniently stabs her breast and snaps her out of the daze. She squints her eyes and reaches for her shield.
“Tam?! Tam! ****, is it one of His?!"
