"I'm still learning but I'll do that. Every little bit helps. In the meanwhile I will try to work out what this jewel does again and then write up a sign." (Question- Are there any school rules about this sort of thing are there - closed shop sort of things. Will change what I said if that is the case)
[OOC: Sorry, I've been busy, but I didn't get a notification about this move and didn't see it until this morning.]
Guilliame is not aware of any rules preventing him from doing what they plan. In fact, one of the reasons for the existence of the school is to make magic more accessible to the people and its use safer for society as a whole, which can be seen in spells he has been taught. It is only later when novice magi have better control of their powers that they are allowed access to some of the more dangerous spells.
"OK. I'll try this spell. Please keep an eye out for anything and let me know if you see anything unusual."
Go to the back and check the back alley. If it is clear make sure back door and windows are as secure as they can be. Go to the front of shop and quickly check for anyone unexpected on the road. If all is clear then go back and start the Identify spell.

[OOC: What are you casting the Identify on? You've already tried it on the jewel, but was only able to find out how it worked. You could actually try it out to see what it does, if you want.]
[OOC: Our guests have arrived, so I won't be able to do anything more today, most likely. Busy weekend for me.]

Do a See the arcane spell on the jewel. Look for where any magical highlights are. Also place the jewel next to the identification device and see if it still stands out magically (I'm looking for a place to store it so it doesn't stand out if there is one.)
If Guilliame has any knowledge about how to go about examining the jewel then apply that. If he has any magical textbooks hanging around that may have some useful information then swat up on those.
If he has no special knowledge there examine any mechanical features of the jewel in case any of these trigger something. If none of this works then think and the say various actions at the jewel in Sorendenese - Light, Burn, Find, Fly.

Guilliame closes his eyes and opens them with his mage sight active. Looking carefully, he see particles of mana being drawn to the fine wires that make up a large part of the jewel. He suspects the wires have been designed to catch mana out of the surroundings, which powers the magic of the item (i.e., the jewel possibly recharges itself).
[OOC: I'm not sure what you mean by the Identification device. However, if you are trying to compare the power of the Identification spell to whatever spell is stored in the jewel, then please make an Investigation check (add +2 to the roll)]
If Guilliame has any knowledge about how to go about examining the jewel then apply that. If he has any magical textbooks hanging around that may have some useful information then swat up on those.
The only magical text you would have is your spellbook. The books you have used in your studies are all in the library at the School of Occult Studies and aren't allowed to leave the building.

You cast the Identify spell on the jewel earlier (i.e., Comment #81):
"All Guilliame is able to get from the casting is the device's mode of operation. It needs to be secured to the wearer's head (clipped into their hair) and it is activated by touching it and saying the word 'help' in Sorendenese."
Alice did not provide the pin that is obviously needed for attaching the hairpiece to the air.

Guilliame feels the jewel react to his saying the word 'help' in Sorendenese and suddenly feels very confident, as if he could take on anyone in a fight.
[OOC: In game terms, the jewel has cast the 1st level spell Heroism on him, which you can find out more about here.]
Wait and see whether the duration of the spell is the minute as advertised or longer/shorter, by trying to gauge the extra confidence Guilliame has temporarily gained.
Have the effect has worn off cast another See the arcane cantrip and look at the jewel and to see how much the magic seems to have diminished.
Next caste another See the arcane spell and see whether there is somewhere in the room I can place the jewel where it doesn't stand out too much. The only place I can think of is next to the pearl used in the Identify spell or possibly behind the iron longsword.
If there is nowhere else then "hide" the jewel under the mattress.
Look for a length of leather cord 3 ft or ask Naomi if I'm not sure whether we have such a thing.
[OOC: 'Buff' as a term means it enhances the character. The 'Damage' tag means the effect affects damage in some way. In this case, it means damage done to the person the spell is cast on is reduced because temporary hit points are always used up before real hit points. In Guilliame's case, this means 2 temporary hit points per round, with the temporary hit points being replaced every combat turn, if used. Note that it is only ever 2 temporary hit points, even if they aren't used up. Also, 'Frightened' is a condition that can be placed on a character by certain creatures and/or spells. This spell protects against such effects as well as reducing any fear the person might be feeling. Also, have a look at 'Spell Foci' in the 'Magical things' category on the world site. This is what Guilliame now believes this jewel is. He has heard of them, but his training at the School hasn't covered them yet.]

[OOC: The jewel is much larger than the pearl and so can't be hidden by it. Also, the iron longsword is likely to have a negative effect on the 'recharging' of the item as iron tends to 'eat' mana (see 'Magick and metals' in the 'Magical things' category on the world site). In fact, the most magical thing in this room is possibly the aura of magic that Guilliame has concentrated around his own head (see 'Innate Sorcery, which is now under the 'Magical things' category on the world site).]
If there is nowhere else then "hide" the jewel under the mattress.
Look for a length of leather cord 3 ft or ask Naomi if I'm not sure whether we have such a thing.
Having felt the effect of the magic in the jewel wear off, Guilliame uses his mage sight to investigate the jewel. Its magic is very much diminished, but even now it is starting to collect mana from out of the surroundings again. It also still has the characteristics of what he recognises as being Enchantment magic. Having recognised the fact that it is a spell foci, he doesn't believe hiding it under the mattress, where it might get damaged, would be a sensible thing to do.
Guilliame makes his way into the workroom where Naomi is working. There is plenty of cord in this room, but none of it is made of leather.
"Are you looking for something in particular?" Naomi asks him.

Hang the sign in the window. While doing so have a look out to see whether anyone unusual is hanging around.
[OOC: No windows as such. Glass is very expensive in this society (see 'Glass in Magudonya' in the 'Miscellaneous things' category on the world site), so the shop would likely have wooden shutters; which is what I described previously. The sign would need to be put up outside if Guilliame wanted passers-by to see it.]
+1 for perception(?)
[OOC: That's correct. Please make a Perception roll with a +1 modifier.]
Dice rolls not yet available for this section.
[OOC: Not sure what you mean by the above, hopefully it is a transient problem that has gone away now.]
Step out the shop with a view to casting an Alarm spell later. Can one spell cover front to back?
[OOC: On the D&D Beyond character sheet, if you click on the name of the spell its details should appear in a pop-up window. One Alarm spell probably wouldn't cover the whole shop, but there is no reason why Guilliame couldn't cast two to cover the front and back entrances, especially if he does them as rituals. It would take some time though.]

Do a See the arcane spell, then go outside to put the sign on the shutter. Have a quick look for anything unusual. Turn off the spell and have a normal check including people who may be trying to duck out of sight.

Put the sign up.
Then come back inside and try to tie some cord to my purse so it can slip down under clothes but be pulled out so it can be accessed.
Do a See the arcane spell on the jewel and see whether it looks like it is charged again.
If it is I will keep the jewel in my purse if it fits. Once done with the purse put it under my clothes and try saying 'Hello' in Soredenese and see whether jewel operates from there.

[OCC: As I mentioned earlier, this is an uncertain roll, so the result is somewhere between 5 and 11 inclusive. Guilliame can see no one unusual or anyone acting suspiciously in the area. As he is putting up the sign, the bookseller from up the street is passing and see the sign. He says in passing, "I wondered when you would be extending your services. Good to see, Master de Marchant, and good luck."
