[OOC: The tube is hollow and has the parchment wrapped around it.]
With the only thing he can do being unwinding the parchment from around the tube, Guilliame does so. The tube underneath is covered with an intricately etched pattern, the lines of which glow faintly under his Mage Sight. The inside of the parchment reveals a brief message in Sorendenese written in a meticulous hand. It reads:
"These are quite common at the Academy in Gunde and I thought this might be of use here. Just channel some magick into it and keep your hand on it and whatever you are reading. Will work for a candle's worth of time."
The message is signed 'Vidon'.

"Hello. I found this tube with what is, perhaps, an embedded read languages spell. Is there somewhere in the library that has documents in languages other than Sorendenese?"
OOC Can Guilliame read any other languages. If he can exclude those as well.
[OOC: Guilliame has two languages. He can speak Sorendenese and Englesh (the native tongue of the indigenous people like his grandmother). He can read and write Sorendenese, but there is no written form of Englesh.
Regarding your question for Velma, perhaps I could have been clearer. Guilliame would have seen that the books in the section Velma directed him to were in a number of different languages. In fact, the only thing on those shelves that he could read was the 'Read Me' scroll.]

Go back to the foreign bookshelf section. Choose a book in a language Guilliame doesn't recognise. Put a hand on the scroll and a hand on the book and channel a small amount of magick into the scoll.
[OOC: The spell focus allows Guilliame to cast the spell, but it does use a first level spell slot, leaving Guilliame with none because he used one earlier practicing his sleep spell. To recover his magick he will need to meditate (see here). Otherwise, he won't get his spell slots back until after a long rest.]
As soon as he expends his magick the words of the book become readable to Guilliame, as long as he keeps one hand on the bronze tube and one hand on the book. If he removes either of his hands, the text becomes unreadable. Also, despite his being able to read the text, he still does not know what language the book is written in.
The book is titled "My Journey to the Land of the Giants" and seems to be a first person account of the author's travels in a cold, mountainous land where they meet up with a tribe of giants. The name of the author is Bran Loch and Guilliame is just getting to the part where the author begins to describe their first sighting of a giant when the magic fades and Guilliame is once more looking at a page covered with printing he cannot read.
Guilliame estimates that about a candle's worth of time has passed between when he channeled magic into the tube and the spell faded.

[OOC: Hi Andrew, I just realised the last move doesn't make a lot of sense; I got carried away working out what the first book was about.
There is no reason Guilliame can't switch from one book to another once he has worked out what the first book is about, as long as he conforms with the touching aspect of the spell. This means that over the course of the next hour—the duration of the spell—he can investigate many books. However, don't ask me what all the titles are as that would take me a long time for me to work out.
What you can do though is make an Investigation check for Guilliame to try to find a book that might help him find out about the Comprehend Languages spell, or any other topic he might be interested in.]

Carefully looking at the bronze tube, Guilliame comes to the opinion that he might be able to duplicate it.
As far as he can tell, there is nothing special about the actual tube itself—it is his own innate sorcerous ability being channeled by the etching in the metal that is causing the spell's effect.
Therefore, given enough time, the right materials and the right tools, he can see no reason why he couldn't make a copy that would work in the same way.
[OOC: It is now sometime between the second and third candle of the afternoon. If Guilliame wants to meditate and recover this magick, he would know that there are meditation chambers available in the Library for just such a purpose. These chambers provide both privacy and an ever-burning flame that acts as a limited source of magick.]

Tell Velma about the tube and that I will be meditating if she needs me. Return the tube to the shelf, go to meditation chamber and meditate till power is recovered.
Velma is surprised to hear about the tube and seems a little bit put out by the fact that someone has added something to the library, seemingly without permission. Still, she appreciates the usefulness of the item and is happy for Guilliame to put it back where he found it. After doing so, Guilliame then heads to one of the meditation chambers on the second floor.
The meditation chambers are in the same, quieter, part of the second floor as Master Nathaniel's chambers. And It is particularly quiet at the moment seeing as the Library is deserted. Guilliame chooses a chamber and enters it. The chamber has a small window in the outer wall with expensive glass windows to let in the light but keep out the rain. There is also a small opening under the eaves protected by a mesh that allows in fresh air but keeps out any wildlife.
Opposite the entrance, there is a small floor-standing brazier in which burns a magical ever-burning flame. From previous experience, Guilliame knows that this flame not only provides light but that it is also a source of magical mana—what he needs to collect into his aura to recover his magic.
[OOC:For possible future reference, seeherefor information about the Continual Flame andherefor the World Anvil page about his Meditation practice.]
Settling down cross-legged on the floor, Guilliame slips easily into the meditative state and begins to draw magick into his aura from the surroundings using his innate sorcerer's ability to manipulate the particles of magick.
About an hour later, Guilliame's sorcerer's aura is once more filled and he has recently heard the calling of the third candle of the afternoon [OOC: I have updated his character sheet to this effect.]
