"Barrus and Alice, finish up and I need you back watching the road, it would not do for the Sheriff or anyone else for that matter to catch us unawares."

[OOC: The two handsmen are now back out on the road in response to Dora's orders.]

I sit back and listen to the conversation between Guilliame and Basilly. 

[OOC: Basilly is waiting to be shown the flask.]

OOC I've lost track of where the flask is but I think Gu9illiame still may have it. If so:

[OOC: I have been assuming that Guilliame put it into his satchel along with his spell book when he finished casting his Identify rituals. So yes, Guilliame does have it. This was also why the sheriff at one point asked to see it; it wasn't out somewhere in plain sight. Note, the sheriff didn't ever get to see the flask because he decided to leave instead.]

Guilliame fetches out the flask from his satchel and gives it to Basilly.

"Hmmm," Basilly says in appreciation as he accepts the item. "Fancy flask... but not magical. He then takes a moment to work out how to open the flask before doing so and sniffing the contents.

Wrinkling his nose, he quickly screws the cap back on and says, "I have smelt this before and you were right to be careful, Guilliame. This is nasty stuff."

He then turns to Dora and says, "You might remember this, Handleader. It was a couple of years ago. The Watch here in the Scholar's Ward were brought in to provide support when the Seekers raided the de Serverus house. Do you remember that?"

For Dora:

"Yes Basilly, it was shortly after I had joined the watch and I still remember the odour of that potion."

Passing the flask back to Guilliame, Basilly then says, "They call that stuff the 'Elixir of Night' and it is believed Shari worshippers use it as some sort of rite of passage... Which they sometimes do not survive, by the way—it is poisonous."

Then he rubs the thin beginnings of a beard on his chin thoughtfully before adding "But De Serverus was no adherent of Shari. He was a dabbler in black magick looking for power and knowledge anywhere he could find it, poisoning himself to death in the process... Perhaps the person who owns that flask is of the same type? Which makes them definitely of interest to the Seekers."

Basilly then turns to Guilliame. "Your note said something about meeting a follower of Shari and that you also have a witness. Tell me more."

I sip my char and chew thoughtfully on some bread and cheese. I think it is good for Jack and Luka to see a Seeker at work. I will give them another half candle break and then have them relieve Barrus and Alice. There will be no wide ranging patrols tonight unless something serious crops up. Otherwise I want the Hand here just in case.

I wait for Guilliame to answer and when he does not I step in.

"We have a wavering witness in the cabin, a servant lad of the Hazluks, Samel. He links the flask to young Brutha Hazluk. As for the follower, Guilliame has done a seeing on the flask and with the help of the Sheriff, who turned up here out of the blue,  has identified the man as Brassman. By the way the Sheriff expressly asked that we hold off on any action till he arrives back but he has been a long time away."

"The strange thing is that the identify spell links the flask to a man I have seen at the sheriff's office rather than Hazluk. But Samuel indicates the flask is owned by Hasluk and he is worried that he has lost it."

Basilly turns to Dora and says, "Sheriff Tambor? How is he involved?"

"He came by here earlier tonight, after a dinner at the palace where he said he saw Seeker Lomani. He was interested to see how Guilliame went of his first shift. We briefed him on the witness and the objects including the results of Guilliame's identity spell. He left here to get out of his formal dress and also to fetch some more of the watch. Strangely he did not speak to the witness. It has been some time now since he left."

"That might be a problem," says Basilly. "Seeker Harlan—may Donai protect his soul—told me he can be a bit brash in these types of situations... And for Seeker Harlan to say such a thing says volumes."
