She takes your hand and removes it from her waist. "You have little hop of being found innocent if you plead not guilty, as you were involved in the riot. Rather, we will make a "no contest" plea, admitting neither guilt, nor claiming total innocence. Generally heavy fees and hard labor in the Grey Mountains would be the minimum sentence with such a plea, but IO have some sway with the court, and I know they have been requested to support the Watch in these trying times, as it is severely depleted. Have you met our current Watch? It's mostly comprised of the very worst soldiers from the Altdorf State Army, aided by idiots and fools. You'll fit right in, given your martial leanings, and should be able to quickly make your mark. Besides, it would help smooth matters in town if we had some more folks on the Watch who cared about Ubersreik and the people here."

“Sure thing, lady. As long as I get to Watch” he winks at her “over you!  ...  So, let’s get this thing over with.”  He starts to herd the group out of the chamber and back into the courtroom. 

"As neither I nor my party wish to be judged for crimes we did not commit, we will accept your advice. I also apologize for my cohorts'...eagerness."

THE SENTENCE

Osanna leaves the antechamber briefly to tell the court that you all are prepared to proceed. She then leads you all back into the waiting courtroom. Osanna explains to the judge that you are not directly contesting the charges, but notes that you all certainly didn't start the fight. She then claims you acted only in self defense.

"After careful review of the evidence and circumstances surrounding this case, it is my view that those who had a hand in disrupting the peace of our fair town should also have a hand in restoring it. I sentence you all to supervised duty on the Watch in order that you may work off your debt to Ubersreik. This duty will commence tomorrow for a period not to exceed three years. Failure to carry out your new duties shall be looked at as treason to the Empire and is punishable by death. In Verena's name, I so rule. Your case is concluded. Hensil, bring me a glass of Bordeleaux."

Osanna grins at you all and makes a slight bow. "Three years of supervised duty is immensely preferable to an immediate noose. Besides, give me time, I may be able to work an alternative to this at a later date. Personally, i'm delighted with this outcome."

Gunnar saunters up to the barrister and gives her a quick peck on the cheek. Turning, he motions to the rest of his group of friends, “Let’s go see what this Watch duty entails.”

Amris smiles at the sentence, finding it much more favorable than what could have been. "Thank you very much for the help, Osanna. We probably would have met the noose if it weren't for you." He gives her a bow and just before he turns to leave with the others he says quietly, "I apologize for my friends, er, advances. He's just a little lonely is all."

PART THREE: LEARNING THE ROPES

Osanna says, "My Lady works in mysterious ways. Perhaps you are exactly where you are supposed to be. What you make of this experience is up to you."

Several watchmen emerge to escort you all into the barracks. As you approach, Altdorf halberdiers escorting you all clearly recognize you and the ribbing begins. With little ceremony you haul you all inside, clearly sizing you up with uncertain expressions before depositing them in front of a door that any with the ability to read says the word "Kaptain". Watch Captain Andrea Pfeffer is awaiting you all inside a large office. She's the woman who arrested you all days before.

"We live in strange times. I ask for Watchmen, and I get..you all. You  may notice my troops' morale is low. But, that's no surprise, they're the worst lowlife scum of Altdorf given uniforms, and they think they're too good for this posting and resent every moment of it." She pauses as someone knocks on the door. "Ah, right on time. This is Sergeant Rudi Klumpenklug. He'll be in charge of you during your time with the Watch. His account of your behavior is what keeps you from being executed for dereliction of duty - I suggest you stay in his good graces. I am not a fool. Do not treat me as one and we will get along just fine. Do as the Sergeant tells you, do not embarrass the Watch, and be wary - Ubersreik is full of mischief of late. May Ulric watch over you..and Sigmar and Verena as well. Dismissed."

Sergeant Rudi Klumpenklug immediately reintroduces himself again. "Call me Rudi. It's only Seageant when other are about, eh? You'll be wanting your geat back, i'm guessin'." He returns you all of your gear. "We'll sort you out some Watch livery, armbands at the least if you want to keep your own kit." He gives you all a tour of the barracks, showing you where they will store your gear and sleep if they wish to quarter here. "Right. Best not to talk too much here. There's ear about I don't fancy, mm? Meet me tonight, just before sundown, at the Raspy Raven out back. Then we'll 'ave a bit of a chat and sort out your new duties."

Gunnar's ears perks up at Rudy's mention of the Raspy Raven.  "Oi, am I parched!  This Raspy place sounds like just the ticket to heal me wounds, and sooth my wounded heart from that dagger the Barrister lady inflicted upon me!"

And with that, he lays down on his cot and in an instant, falls asleep, snoring out loud.

ON PATROL!

The next day, Klumpenklug guides you all along Teubrucke, the river bound district more widely known as The Docks in Ubersreik. He points out various back alleys where criminals linger at night, noting several spots where people were horribly murdered.

Elise points out the attempted thief and begins to advance on him. "Stop, in the name of the law!"

The pickpocket startles bad, spooks, and takes off! It's a race to catch him!

Whoever is chasing the pickpocket, go ahead and make three Dramatic Athletics Tests, noting how many SLs you get.
