With the ordeal over, Rhayna, Pax and Kaylyn go looking for Kirin and Sekkar, as Rhayna continues to contemplate new information that she might obtain via the crystal.
Rhayna can receive one vision of the past, one of the present, and one of the future using the crystal for free before a long rest. If she wants more than that before the rest, then it costs two charges per vision. She has already used the free vision of the past, so can still get a 'present' or 'future' vision for free before having to use charges. Let me know if you want to stop at any of the archives along the way.
Vizeran responds to Sekkar's question: I have a tower, although it is quite some distance away, on the far side of the Wormwrithings. There we can not only discuss the matter, but I may have several trinkets of some worth that I can spare thee. Kreve here (and he gestures toward the slaad) can transport us all there infallibly. If this is distasteful, then I can provide the location and thou can take your chances with teleportation... (and he looks at Kirin with a new air of superiority) I do hope that thou has access to teleportation, otherwise thou may be of little use to me. Sekkar's face is as difficult to read as ever, and so Vizeran adds one more option. Alternatively... nominate a neutral rendezvous but forgo the items I mentioned. We can meet outside the gates of the library if you prefer.

Vizeran's observes as Kirin and Sekkar are joined by three more, but his eyes shoot acid darts (metaphorically) as he sees that two of them are of elven descent, and half-breeds at that! He seems relieved that the human is the one doing the talking, although he is no less haughty in his manner as he listens to Rhayna's greeting. But his face registers unmasked shock as Rhayna reveals her information.
Gromph Baenre!? Are thou certain? How does thou know this?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I decided to post a bit more, so as to progress the narrative, hoping I haven't stifled Rhayna's answer. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After Rhayna responds, Vizeran paces back and forth, speaking as if to himself, but loudly enough for all to hear and with an air of agitation: I had assumed it was somehow the doing of the Spider *****, for no mortal could wield the power necessary for such a summoning. But Gromph! My long-time rival, and the only other who could hope to match me for talent in the arcane. If not for him, I would be Archmage of Menzoberrenzan!
Vizeran then stops his pacing, turns to face the group, and continues his exposition: For centuries I have opposed the tyranny of Lloth and her priestesses. It is for this reason that Gromph Baenre plotted and engineered my disgrace and banishment from Menzoberrenzan, clearing the way for himself to become Archmage. Now that fool has brought the demon lords down upon us, with his demon queen pulling his strings all the while. He has given Lolth free reign in the Abyss. He must have used faerzress to achieve such a summoning, though I am sure he didn’t intend this result. Imbecile!
His tone turns even more urgent, although why this new information should hasten the task is unclear: I can save thee months of research — time we clearly don’t have. The information I found here has confirmed my theories, and I know how to banish the demon lords back to the Abyss. We can do this only if we work together, if thou are willing and daring enough to directly challenge the demon lords. Or perhaps foolhardy is the better word...
While the Drow Mage paces back and forth, Rhayna tries to get a word in by raising a finger, but she sees that she will have to wait…

Rhayna's departure leaves the elderly drow mage no choice but to communication with the hated half-breeds. Hearing Pax's question, he swallows his distaste and replies: Perhaps our haste trumps our caution. So be it - we shall discuss it here and take our chances... I do not intend to confront each Demon Lord. I propose that we ensure they confront each other...
Vizeran begins to pace again, looking at no-one in particular as he elaborates: Demons are creatures ruled by madness and hatred, even the greatest and most powerful of them. They war ceaselessly upon each other in the Abyss, and have already begun to do so here. We can play them against each other, and then deal with the weakened victors. I believe I have the ability to devise and cast a ritual - similar to Gromph’s no doubt but nowhere near as dangerous or foolish - that will draw the most powerful demon lords together... to the site of the original summoning. Once they are brought together, they will try to destroy each other. But though the demon lords might destroy each other’s physical manifestations here in our world, their essence cannot be extinguished. They will thus be cast back into the Abyss, as effectively as if they had been banished.
The mage stops his pacing, and looks to each member of the assembled group as though delivering a lecture: The ritual needs certain components to produce the talisman that will draw the demons. Then a rite to empower and activate it. Then blood and battle such as this world has never seen. Any survivors among the demon lords will be sorely weakened, and should be far easier to destroy. All I need are the necessary ingredients... Then the drow archmage peers at Pax, a thin smile curling one corner of his mouth... and a look at Gromph’s grimoires and notes from his sanctum.
Kaylyn's impression is that every word is truth, although Vizeran seems to also view the defeat of the demon lords as the possible fulfilment of his own desires... perhaps a blow against Lolth who he clearly despises?
(Rhayna's continued research into the present status of the demon lords will require two charges per vision)
A leviathan moves in the depths of the Darklake, blacker still against the utter blackness. Everywhere it passes the surface ripples with the movement, as well as with the abyssal power that exudes from the greatest of the demon lords. The faerzress shudders with corruption, and nearby creatures fall to the ground in pain and horror... trolls, grimlocks, quaggoths, troglodytes... their bodies convulsing as a second head sprouts and grows from their shoulders, and they charge off through the tunnels in a demonic frenzy for blood and chaos...
...
A long procession of myconids walks gracefully through the tunnels, their minds joined in melding as they sing hymns of rejoicing to the figure in their midst, the one who leads them on to a paradise of life and loam everlasting. Nearer and nearer they approach to the object of their Lady's affection, the continental organism known as Araumycos, and their rapture rises to ecstasy as they contemplate the imminent wedding that will gift their Lady with power on a planetary scale...

Kaylyn just stares at Rhayna as she suddenly rushes off. The drow seems legitimate though he likely has his own motivations beyond removing demon lords from this plane. But if she is honest with herself what did she care whom ruled the drow? In this case the ends may just justify the means. So be it. Unless Rhayna came up with something better this was the only lead they had.
Vizeran answers Kaylyn first, and with little additional preamble, adding those details that seem to demonstrate his understanding of the arcane requirements: The intact and unhatched egg of a purple worm, for channeling great physical power. The central eye of a beholder, to break down magical resistance and overcome magical forces. Three feathers from an angel, for the authority of the celestial realms and a force to enrage fiendish creatures. The heart of a goristro, to reach and influence the hearts of other demons. Thirteen timmasks, also known as “devil’s mushrooms,” sprouted from the footprint of a marilith, a balor, or a goristro — a lure to draw demons in. And finally... a few drops of blood or ichor from a demon lord, to connect with the demons the ritual will call.
To the group as a whole he says: How thou obtains such, I leave to thee. If thou has survived thus far, then clearly thou has the resourcefulness to accomplish the task. There will be much for me to accomplish to prepare the ritual to create the talisman, and also to cast the spell that will summon the demons to it, and no small investment of my own resources, so all our combined efforts will be required if we are to stem the demon lords' power before it becomes too great.
Then to Pax he adds: My House was wiped out long ago, and long have I been in exile. I have no contacts remaining in Menzoberrenzan. If thine own skills are not suited to the task, and thou has no contacts within the city or associates that can infiltrate it, then I suggest thou find some, and quickly. Pax detects no hint of deception in the drow's words. He seems entirely sincere about the threat of the demon lords, the means of defeating them, and the requirements to succeed, including the incredible list of spell components.
Vizeran flinches as Pax approaches angrily, but seemingly more out of fear of the consequences of getting involved in a fight in the library than simply from Pax's fury. The slaad moves immediately to interpose itself between her and its master, but Vizeran reaches out one hand to stop it, hissing angrily: Watch thy tone, half-breed. Instigate violence here, and the basilisk will turn us all to statues for a very long time. Then, thrusting a sheaf of parchment under Pax's nose, on which are numerous scribblings that at a glance can be seen to include the rare items mentioned, Vizeran says with a sneer:
Convince thyself, if thou doesn't believe me. Spend thy hours and days here in the library, seeking the answers for thyself, and finally thou will learn that I speak the truth, but by then the demon lords will be entrenched, they will have opened permanent portals to the Abyss, and the world will be swarming with demons beyond the power of any to combat. Or if thou prefer, seek the aid of your fellow surface dwellers. See how many valiant souls must leave the light, never to return, just to defeat a single demon lord in combat. Count if thou can how many lives and families must suffer ruin and sorrow in the hope that they can prevail against this unbridled evil. Do what thou will, if trust me thou does not. To what end should I deceive thee?
