The tiny flameskull continues hovering harmlessly...until the ranger crosses the threshold from the hallway into the main chamber. The flameskull zooms down at him from above, screaming in a tiny voice: "Intruder! Intruder! The Forge is under attack!" as Rigel begins to backpedal towards the relative safety of the barracks. As he passes by the hallway leading south, he catches notice of several pairs of eyes, glowing in the darkness...which he had not seen (or failed to notice) just moments before.
Ronk leans around the doorway, watching Rigel and the skull. "'Floaty?' Really?" He shakes his head and sprints through the door and down the hall, stops 10 feet from the skull, lashes out with a combination of spear and palm strikes, then retreats back down the hall to the doorway.
Spear attack on Flameskull: 21; damage on hit - 10 Piercing
Spear attack on Flameskull: 24; damage on hit - 5 Piercing
1 Ki point for Flurry of Blows
Unarmed attack on Flameskull: 15; damage on hit - 6 Blugeoning
Unarmed attack on Flameskull: 14; damage on hit - 9 Blugeoning
With doubled movement and 10 additional feet from Drunken Technique, Ronk retreats back to the room with the others - or as close as he can get to the room.
Hovering nearly 20 feet overhead, even Ronk's powerful long limbs are unable to reach the floating sentient skull...the monk's strikes finds only empty air...
Vanzaren books it after Rigel, "Well floaty certainly describes that thing.... poorly but it is a description." Stopping halfway down the hall, leavin space for the others to enter, he moves to throw 3 daggers, and 3 made of force go slamming into the floating flaming skull.
FLAMESKULL Reaction (Shield): the flameskull gains +5 AC until the start of it's next turn and takes no damage from magic missile.
Before Vanzaren's magic daggers can impact the floating skull, a ghostly force field surrounds the creature, deflecting the projectiles into a nearby wall where they explode harmlessly in a small shower of sparks. The flaming dagger seems to break through the force field and hit the creature, but the magical weapon did not appear to do any damage.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
In still believing the plan to lure the skull into the room, Marcon stays at the ready by the door, ready to snatch up the creature once it came even remotely into his reach. Even if that meant burning himself in the process, for the sake of keeping the creature from fleeing, it was a sacrifice he was willing to make in a pinch!
At first, Garet stumbled while casting his offensive spell and he saw that the bolt was going straight into the back of Vanzaren's head. The forest cleric utters a short plea to his diety: "Mielikki please help..." and the magical bolt curves around Vanzaren, missing him by a hair's breadth and hurls into the skull.
The flameskull takes 12 radiant damage and the next attack against it has advantage.
Nundro creeps up behind Marcon and readies his weapon as he whispers to the ex-farmhand: "I got yer back, sonny...whatever jumps through that door, I'll try an' pull their attention while you go to work on them livers an' kidneys, yeah?"
NUNDRO Action (Ready): Nundro will use the Help to give Marcon advantage on his first attack roll. Reaction (Trigger): Marcon makes an attack roll against a target within his reach.
The flameskull spun in three axis in midair as Garet's radiant magic blasted the tiny undead sentry. "Ahhhhhhhhhh!"screamed the tiny skull, but it eventually slowed and regained an up right orientation, it's eyes flaring with anger. "You will regret that, invader!" The flameskull seemed to take in a large breath and then spat a small, glowing ember in Garet's direction. It travelled across the space between them, seemingly in slow motion.Vanzaren saw it coming and knew what terrible thing was about to happen, but couldn't so much as utter a warning to the others...then, the fireball erupted...
FLAMESKULL Action (Cast): fireball centered on a point immediately in front of Vanzaren and Garet, spreading out and around corners to engulf Rigel, Ronk and Marcon as well. Each must make a Dexterity saving throw at DC 13, taking 25 fire damage on a failed save or 12.5 damage on a success.
Van raises 2 finger to his mouth and inhales sharply, sucking in the fireball before it ever has time to explode. All that remains is harmless smoke spilling from Van's mouth as he hacks, "Nope, nope that did not go as expected gods that was a bad idea."
"Curse my stupid pride." grumbles Rigel as he realizes that he underestimated the skull and its abilities. Seeing that the skull is well out of reach he tightens his grip on his weapons and moves 5 feet closer to Van where he stands at the ready should the skull get within striking range. (Bonus action) In the mean time he places his hunters mark
Rigel rushes to aid Van. As he does he casts ensnaring strike. He leaps at the flaming skull, both arms windmilling towards the floating enemy as the ranger attacks.
Rod (Flame tounge) Attack: 8 Damage: 8
Hew Attack: 14 Damage: 5
A hit triggers the following: Skull must make a STR DC:12 Roll =11 If the roll fails skull takes 1d6 damage at the start of each of its turns until it makes its save.
Hit will also trigger colossus slayer dealing an additional 3 Damage (I'm assuming the skulls hit points are not at maximum.)
Not sure anymore how concentration works for multiple items when combined with a spell. If this is out of line disregard.
Rigel also triggers his favorite foe ability. Damage: 4
As Rigel attacks, his missteps seem to be increasing. In his eagerness to strike the flaming skull from the air he tries to inflict as much damage as possible. This causes him to lose his focus on his spell for just a moment as he gauges the best place to strike this enemy. Perhaps the encounter with Isolde had him more rattled than he wanted to admit.
