The gang of hobgoblins are off from each other by seconds at most, but it's enough for Marcon. The moment the lead hobgoblin would struck, the man parries with such force as to direct the hobgoblin into the path of his fellow, throwing off their intended the course. This left only the one to deal in the next heartbeat, and only just catch their overhead strike with a raised shield.
In that brief window the hob's weapon is locked high, Marcon pivots and thrusts with his spear, catching them where armor is softest on the body. Then up came the foot, pushing them off the spear and breaking the brief deadlock. As he then settled back into a defensive stance, he yet continued to regard them with a measure of wariness yet.

The barbarian's tactics pay off, and the hobgoblin shrieks in pain as he's impaled on Marcon's family spear. As the weapon is wrenched free from the creature's abdomen, it leaves a dark red streak of blood gushing out from under the rings of the chainmail, as a wave of uncertainty seems to travel through the trio of humanoid thugs facing the young warrior. They curse and shift their weapons and shields as they look for an opening to strike...
The hobgoblins will position themselves so as to flank Marcon each in turn, all effectively gaining Advantage on their attacks, and using their Hobgoblin Martial Advantage trait.
Martial Advantage : Once per turn, the hobgoblin can deal an extra 7 (2d6) damage to a creature it hits with a weapon attack if that creature is within 5 feet of an ally of the hobgoblin that isn't incapacitated.
Hobgoblin 2 - Attack: 19 Damage: 8 - Martial Advantage Damage on a Hit: 7

One studded mace catches Marcon right across the face, sending him stumbling back a step spitting blood and likely a tooth. By Tymora's grace however, the movement put him out of line of a follow-up, and by the time the last one is able to get in position to punish, the shock wore off enough to catch it against the shield. This time when he went to force the hobgoblin back, it's a bit more sloppier than the last time.
A hurried attempt to right the footing only further compounds the error, as the thrust is weak and well-off center from hobgoblin mass. With the ringing now in his ears, he risks a glance at the leader more out of instinct than intent, but looked on uncomprehending of anything said.

Outside, the drama gets to a crescendo as the hobgoblin soldiers mercilessly slam their maces through Marcon's guard, under the cold eyes of their leader, still holding tight on his wolves' leash.

As the Firbolg is casting his spell, Nudrow savagely targets the one figure standing between him and his chance at escaping: he lashes at Vanzaren with despair, trying to get past the wizard with vengeful blows.

As the magic vine drags the gesticulating body of the hollering, bleeding dwarf across the rug-covered stones of the floor, the three of you all push and stab over each-other, vainly attempting to reach it.
The constant screams of pain and rage of the bleeding Nundro, almost choking on the thorny cord wrapped around his neck, finally come to an abrupt end at Rigel's axe violently smacks into the solar plexus, exacting a loud rasp from the struggling figure, instantly followed by a deafening quiet...
As the last remnants of the whip still hooked around the inanimate dwarf dissipate in a whisp of smoke, the small, stocky silhouette of 'Nundro' starts throbbing, then vibrating at a faster and faster pace, until the air around it settles... and you all see a very strange creature laying on the ground at your feet: a 6-feet tall humanoid with tiny wrinkled ears, a shrunken, flat nose and round, lidless milky white eyeholes dug deep into a completely hairless skull covered with a greyish-blue skin showing both the texture and consistency of wet leather. It lays there, gasping what appears to be its last breath... right next to it, tucked under the left arm, is the map your employer Gundren so desperately wanted to protect.
Anyone who wishes to can do a History or a Nature check to try to figure out what the heck this is...

Moving as fast as possible Rigel races about gathering items. He retrieves his thrown axe, the map case and finally the map itself. He pauses just long enough to take a good hard look at the creature trying to recall any information about the thing.
As he starts to move about the room he suggests to Garret, "Check on Gundren. See if he can be saved. Marcon is right we need to clear out as fast as possible but there is still stuff here that will benefit us." He ends his frenzied trip around the room by grabbing Grol's mace and after creating a make shift strap, slings it across his back. With that final item secured he grabs a sprig of mistletoe from a pocket and Whispers a few words casting goodberry on his way to the door. He stops at the portal to make sure the rest are following as he eats 9 of the 10 berries saving one in a pocket for an emergency cure should they need it.
At the last moment a thought strikes Rigel and he swiftly rushes to Grol and removes the torc from around his neck. On his way back to the door he throws it to Ronk.
"Put this on. All hail King Ronk!" He says with a wink.
Ronk shrugs and starts to put on the necklace, then starts to take it off as he hears the second part of what Rigel said. "Wait. Huh? I'm.. No, I'm not a king..." The bugbear follows Rigel. "Why do I have to be the king?"
