Once again, your perceptive abilities shine; the wilderness around you, except for this lone humanoid, seem devoid of danger or other interesting features.
The figure non-chalantly struts forward, noting Sebastian as he darts into the jungle. "Should tell that unibun to be careful," the apparent human female drawls. "Nasty things in this jungle; almiraj are tasty critters... kinda like all of you." The female is close in size to Bryn, massive in stature. She wears worn and weather-beaten travelling clothes, with no cloak. Long, clumped gray hair covers her head; streaks and patches of red and white run through it. A puckered scar from a large puncture wound mars her neck and collarbone on the left side; pinched eyes look out from under a criminal brow.
"I'm alone," she states, crossing her arms under her breasts as she notices Celtra's glances to the wilderness. She moves toward Fulcra. "But I don't think you'd call me a friend, witchman."
Suddenly Azaka is between all of you and this woman, hand gently pulling Cimeri and Fulcra behind her. "Her name is Luunta, pride-mother of those who hunt us."
Luunta spreads her arms wide and bows. "Lone, little Azaka. How's the tribe these days?"
Azaka bristles as Luunta continues, "Oh I'm sorry, that's right. Not very talkative lately." She puts a finger to her lips. "Shame. Had you chosen differently we could have made space for you in the tribe. We're always looking for more slaves."
You're surprised by Azaka's cool manner; she puts her arms out to her sides in a calming motion to the rest of you, keeping you back. "Are you done?" she says quietly.
"No, I don't think so," Luunta grunts, stretching her back. "We're done following, Azaka. You've broken the accord. I wanted you to know the hunt is on; we're making bets on which of you," she says, moving her gaze to each of you in turn, "will be first. My money's on the cute one," pointing to Fulcra. "The girls are fierce when their blood is up; hope they don't tear you in two when they get to you," she says to Fulcra. "Or maybe the child. We'll be sure to keep her alive until you can watch us eat her piece by piece, Azaka."
"End this now," your guide says. "Fight me. Bring two daggers. Let us do this, or are you afraid?"
"Not gonna work this time, girl," Luunta retorts. "Too many of the tribe have been watching. It's time to hunt. To make this sporting (for us, of course), we'll give you a head start. Whaddaya say? One day? Two? Take one day, we'll kill some of you quick. Take two, we'll be sure to make death last." She turns to leave. "What do you say? One or two?"
Fulcra raises an eyebrow as the woman wanders away, "I mean, why not make it three....then when you find us you can really have some fun. Some enslaving, some eating, some torture. Good times right?"

Bryn would step forth from the shadows, standing tall. She'd watch the exchange between the two with her arms crossed, looking the woman up and down.
Insight: 16 How honest is Luunta actually being about a headstart. Bryn is suspecting almost an immediate ambush regardless of how many days they pick.
It was scary - stating otherwise would be lying to herself - yet... reassuring too: they behaved exactly as predicted - scaring the prey, toying with it, like all cats do. As impressive as they were (and, gods they were menacing even in their human forms!) - they could not help it but to boast and making a show. Cimeri did not know a thing about manipulations or exploiting others weaknesses, but she did know, that such a showoff is a flaw leading to mistakes.
Fortunately, nobody expected her to talk and she only stand their, studying the pride-mother and hoping she does not look too pale in the coming twilight.
Bryn will be trying to suppress a growl in her throat, not appreciating being toyed with. Though, she did take some comfort in the pride-mother's over confidence. They do not hunt together, as a pact. There could be potential in exploiting their overconfidence and lack of teamwork. Perhaps their team could turn them on each other. The druid would simply move her arms to begin cracking her knuckles, then her neck.
Fulcra speaks more to himself, but loudly enough to be heard, “I mean, a real hunter could catch us poor city folk with even a 4 day lead. But, I understand you’re afraid we’ll get away. Too difficult to follow us with a 4 day lead.”
"They do not wish a hunt." Taman speaks up. He sees them as just wishing to kill. Nothing more than murderers and cutthroats. "I could see hunting those who know the area, or those who could put up a fight, but these are just wanting to kill, not to have a challenge." He turns his back on her believing she and her pack are absolutely without any honor whatsoever. He would no more trust their word for waiting than he would expect a king to hand over their kingdom for the asking.

This tribe is little above animals, Celtra thinks to herself while her hand remains ready to draw her blade. She looks pulls her hand back from it. If they will not listen to reason, then like other animals they will have to answer to fear. While Luunta chats with the other, Celtra reaches into her pouch and pulls out a silver coin. She holds it flat in her plan and strides up right in front of her and stares her right in the face.
"We've not met, but I've heard of you. Of your strength." She holds out her hand for a shake. The moment Luunta's eyes even look glance down at the extended hand, Celtra lashes out with the other hand holding the sliver coin in her palm for an open handed slap.

Celtra had the most strange definition of the word "honour" indeed! But that was the talk for another time. Right now it looked like the group was about to "honourably" kill the lone messenger (even if the messenger was the old leader of the clan and promised them death).

Taman initiative ... 11
(DM, remember that Taman has portent dice he can use, so I will likely be replacing some of the rolls with those values as this fight progresses. He can replace any D20 roll, ours, or hers, as he wishes. It is hard, if not impossible, to do so ahead of time on PBP as portent says to do, so I will just assume he can do so after the fact, unless you have a better way of doing so.)
The slap opens a slash along Luunta's cheek, blood splashing grudgingly forth. The female snarls and roars maniacally before getting herself under control. She touches her face, looks at the blood on her fingers. Rage, fear, and finally respect war upon her face.
"Heh," she grunts, wiping more of the blood away, and draws the back of her hand across her mouth. "Nevermind," she says to Fulcra and Cimeri. "That one will be first." She looks to Celtra, then Azaka. "Lots of spirit here. One day head start. Make the most of it."
She stalks back into the jungle, disappearing almost instantly.
The night passes uneventfully, and you all wake early and anxious to make the most of your 'head-start'. Azaka drives you all relentlessly; the route south winds through swamp trees and tall grasses. It becomes clear that the extra speed was so that you all could stop for the evening earlier so that Azaka could find a more defensible location; she spends more than the usual amount of time searching for a proper camp spot. The sense of another presence around you still hovers in the air, but no one yet has seen anything more than slight movement or ripples in the water.
"Six more days on the lake," Azaka mutters to herself, prepping camp. "One more to Hrakhamar."
A final restful evening is had, and the next morning dawns upon the hunt.
If there is anything anyone wants to do before starting canoeing for the day, or during the trip, say so now.
Taman sits in the canoe, waiting until everyone is loaded aboard. he then turns to Azaka. "I can duplicate the horn call that summoned the undead outside of the temple when those goblins called for them. Would that be good to do here, or to wait until it is something we use as a last-resort? If I do so here, then it may slow them down, and might even take out a few of their numbers as they have to deal with the undead to continue to follow us. Doing so also warns them that we have that ability, so they would be able to take that into account in later days."

It seems genuine. They are there for the enjoyment of the hunt; it will be a competition between all of them seems they won’t be working together
