The form of the creature Whitegaze saw, and fought, onthe stairs before comes down towards the group. It is about 20 feet away when it rounds the stairs enough to be spotted.
Whitegaze, remember to take into account the special ability of your weapon as you fight. I'll read up on it and try to keep track as well.
Here is the information on the sword, appears that you auto-win if you roll a nat 20, so keep track.
When you attack a creature that has at least one head with this weapon and roll a 20 on the attack roll, you cut off one of the creature's heads. The creature dies if it can't survive without the lost head. A creature is immune to this effect if it is immune to slashing damage, doesn't have or need a head, has legendary actions, or the GM decides that the creature is too big for its head to be cut off with this weapon. Such a creature instead takes an extra 6d8 slashing damage from the hit.
Finally! Merric had been waiting to deal with this creature for days. The Golden-Hin in him (I've got to find a way to become halfling again!) railed against the injustice of the entire city which seemed to him to be embodied in this creature.
Merric darted forward his dagger and rapier appearing in his hands as he moved in for a strike, being sure to give Whitegaze room for his weapon. His blade licked out, stabbing for vitals.
With weapons like the one Whitegaze now possessed too much interference could probably one get on the way. So, Al-Ashari started with the light touches:
BA: [Tooltip Not Found] for 10 (save Int 18)
If it looks like the creature is affected - [Tooltip Not Found] for 12 (Int 18 with 1d4 subtracted from the save)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Hakim will draw the greatsword and take a moment to adjust to the different size from he's used to before stepping in and swinging away at the creature
(As a note, so I don't forget either, the sword ignores resistance to slashing damage, and non-magical piercing/bludgeoning/slashing damage against Whitegaze is reduced by 3.)

Can't tel if you rolled with advantage or not. Can you let me know?
(No reason to roll the save for hold person, as the DC is higher than he can reach with the -10 to his check.)
Kale's spell took hold of the creature, and it froze in mid-step. Merric and Al-Ashari both slammed it with attacks and spells, all hitting and doing damage.
Int save: 6
Whitegaze then strode in and struck with his magical greatsword. (If no criticals, then he just does more damage to the creature.)

Whitegaze was higher than Kale in initiative, so didn't roll with advantage because I figured the spell wouldn't have taken effect yet.
Kale backs away rapidly, moving behind the others for what cover he can manage and even putting his goat before him as a last-ditch attempt of protection for himself. He then leans over and aims his crossbow at the monster:
Afterwards, Kale adds on one last insult with his Unsettling Words:
"Your victims only pass out at your feet because of your chronic halitosis! With that many heads, it's a wonder you don't hurt yourself, really." (1 from its next saving throw, hopefully the Hold Monster one)
Oh my sneak attack crits, let's double our piddly damage: tack on an extra 5 and 1 to that damage roll.

that is cs for Critical Strike, greater than X, where X is the number BELOW which you will NOT crit. In this case, with the held target, I add cs>1 so anything 2 or more is a crit (since 1 is always a fail). When striking with the Wicked Blade, which crits on 15-20, I add cs>14.

You all slash and hack into the creature. It does not appear to be harmed by your attacks after a certain point.
It cannot save against hold monster as long as cutting words is being used on it, nor can it save against Al-Ashari's spell, due to a low wis modifier, and those negatives it has from last round.
I'm not going to make you keep hacking, as Whitegaze is going to get a nat 20 eventually. (I did read up on Vorpal Sword and it does require a 20 to be rolled, hold monster does not change that.)
Let us see how many rounds it would take, Whitegaze doing 3 attacks per round.
1 ... 7 / 8 / 1
2 ... 10 / 5 / 12
3 ... 19 / 2 / 17

Kale immediately casts hold monster on the monster, hoping to give Whitegaze an opportunity to use his sword. (WIS 18)
He uses his Unsettling Words to further distract the monster: 10 subtracted from its wisdom saving throw

ooc: Someone explained how to roll the Sneak Attack damage as part of the combat roll. Hence the 42.
