(Sorry for the delay. Harry hasn't answered but let's just say they did.)
Alcaeus nods thoughtfully. "Indeed, your stories have convinced me. Not many know of Elaria's true personality. Most simply see her as a stern teacher but once you get to know her, she's the greatest friend one could have." He let's out a sigh, looking down for a few moments before standing. "Give me a second. I've hidden the tiles outside. Feel free to help yourselves to some more stew if you finish." Alcaeus heads out for a few minutes before returning with a simple wooden box covered in arcane runes. He sits back down in his seat and opens the box. It flashes a bright white and everyone instinctively covers their eyes before the light fades, revealing three metal diamond tiles. Each of the tiles have a letter carved on their faces. D, F, E.
"Well that was spectacular. Always a flare for the dramatic our teacher had," Wulfgar says while blinking rapidly trying to get the stars out of his eyes.
Similar to the distance between the town and the cliffs, it shouldn't take you guys more than a hour or two to get to the mountains from the cliffs. Its still early afternoon, around 2 o'clock.
As everyone stands to leave, Alcaeus does so as well. "Well, thank you for your company and good luck on the rest of your journey." He moves towards the entrance of he hurt and holds the door open for you all to leave. With a bright smile, he waves you goodbye and watches as you descend down the cliff once more.
Your journey to the mountain, to the spider's lair, is an uneventful one though the cold winds blowing down from the Staircase Cliffs continue to bombard you for a good part of your journey. Eventually you reach the forest that surrounds the base of the mountain and the winds begin to calm and warm. You follow along the base of the mountain until you come across a cave entrance barely hidden behind a waterfall. There a small gaps on the side of the waterfall that would allow you to get into the cave without getting wet.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Sercender takes a moment to let her eyes adjust to the lighting of the cave, though it doesn't take long as there are campfires giving off an adequate amount of light. The first thing she sees, or rather hears, as she enters the cave is a group of six kobolds grabbing their bows and daggers while screeching in high-pitched voices. Ayer follows closely behind, and manages to see the kobolds scrambling about.
Positioning - Sercender and Ayer are within the cave, standing at the entrance. - The kobolds stand in two sets of three, positioned in vertical lines with the furthest kobolds standing out of line - the kobold on the right is 5ft to the left whilst the kobold on the left is 5ft to the right. The two sets are 20ft apart. - The furthest kobolds stand 80ft away from the entrance. - There are two campfires in the cave, 30ft apart. They're located next to each of the second kobolds in their respective lines. The left campfire is on the left of the kobold and the right campfire is to the right of the kobold. - The rest of the party is outside the cave. It takes 10ft to get to the entrance but it is currently blocked by Sercender and Ayer. You can move through their space but it'll take an extra 5ft of movement to do so.
(Unfortunately no. The time you spent at Alcaeus' place was too short for a short rest and most people seemed to agree to head straight for the mountain.)

Ayer raises a hand "Might we take a look?" they'll use the help action to give anyone else that wants to investigate then advantage
Alcaeus nods and carefully hands the box to Ayer.
"Well now, that is one of three down. What's next? Ghosts? Creepy forests? Spiders?" He asks as he sips.
"If there is a need for resupply then we should head back to town, if not, then we should head north to the mountains."
Sercender attempts to judge the time of day and the distance between the cliffs and the mountains.
(Sorry for not responding before, I'm terrible at those sorts of things and coming up with stories)

"I say se head to the mountains then. We have a full belly, and time yet tonight to cover some distance." Wulfgar says.
"If you wish, you may spend some more time resting before going to your next destination. I've got plenty of stew and plenty of stories."
"We really should be on our way, we thank you for your generosity and allowing us to share our stories" Maelaryn stood and began gathering his things.
Ayer nods in agreement with Maelaryn and stands to leave.

Sercender travels a bit separate from the party and steps through one of the gaps. After letting her eyes adjust to the dark, she looks around.
Ayer moves up closer to support if need be.

(did we get a rest in when we were in the tent? That will help determine Ayer's actions)
Either way, Ayer will move to a position that puts them within reach of the most Kobolds before attacking and using a bonus action for martial arts.
