Peri also moves toward the kitchen -- no more surprises tonight! "I told him to kill the assassin. I never thought he'd actually chase after it! People don't usually listen to what I say."
"Yeah, what is he thinking, running off after the foes instead of following the plan to bottle them up here at the chokepoint," says Gerrard darkly, looking at Qivys. "Still, I'd better go check on him. It's what I do, apparently," he adds, moving up the stairs and heading towards the window Thwack just jumped out (move and dash).
As Thwack tears across the dark, wet roof after the dead assassin, Peri and Qivys return to the kitchen, where Janore is ready with her holy symbol, preparing for her last stand.
Meanwhile, Gerrard races to the top of the stairs, where he can just make out Thwack's running form before the kobold disappears into the gloomy storm outside.
Outside, the assassin turns and pulls off its mask, revealing its rotting face to Thwack. (Thwack: make a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened until the end of your next turn.) Then the thing spins and breaks away again. (Thwack may have another opportunity attack - but at disadvantage if he is frightened.) It sprints for the edge of the roof... and leaps.

Thwack
Having caught up to the fleeing foe he now stood face to knees with the grotesque creature. He slowly looks up to meet its gaze. The sight of its rotting face scares him to the core.
WIS save 12
((At advantage due to Racial Feature: Kobold Legacy))
But as scared as he may be, his determination to fulfil Peri's order wins out. He lashes out as the creature takes its leave.
Opportunity Attack: 17 Damage: 7
Without hesitation he runs to the edge of the roof and scans for his enemy. If he can see it within 60 ft he wills another pair of daggers into being and sends them on their way. Whether either strikes or not he follows off the roof in pursuit.
If he cannot see his target he jumps off and attempts to follow any footprints etc.
"Uncle Dwal told me how snarky ya can get," Qivys responds to Gerrard. "I stayed where I was ta make sure all ya got to where ya wanted ta be an' hopeful set up whatever defenses ya wanted. I didn't anticipate how fast these dead things can be, an' got surrounded."

Thwack jabs the undead horror as it sprints for the roof edge. As it leaps out into the rain-blown night air, Thwack manages to land a second psychic blade. (Roll: 21)
Thwack leaps off blindly in pursuit. Unfortunately, the dead assassin is much stronger than the little kobold, and is able to leap further out. It is not until both are in mid-air that Thwack sees where it's trying to land: the waters of the cove. But directly beneath them are rocky cliffs adjacent.
Thwack: make a DC 10 Athletics check to see how far you can jump out into the air. If you fail, make a DC 10 Acrobatics check to see how you land.
Boko may also act. The interior lof the fortress is currently clear of immediate threats. Inert corpses of the fallen are everywhere.
Flailing in the air, now wishing he had not wanted desperately to prove his worth, Thwack embraces his draconic heritage and starts flapping his little arms.
Flapping his arms frantically, Thwack barely clears the rocks, falling just short of the deep water cove. He hits the shallow muck just below the edge of the cliff, taking 6 bludgeoning damage (but missing the sharp, barnacle-covered rocks by mere inches.)
The undead assassin hits the water with a violent splash in the deeper waters of the cove, and quickly submerges from view.
It is raining heavily.
Inside: Boko may act, together with Peri, Gerrard, and Qivys.

Gerrard:
Gerrard has no time to respond to Qivys' words as he races up the stairs, and he sets it aside as a matter to discuss later. Moving carefully out onto the roof, he moves to the edge and lowers his rope with the grappling hook on the end, looking for Thwack. He calls out, "Thwack, are you okay?" over the storm, looking for the recently airborne kobold.

Peri claps Qivys on the arm, finding himself in the rare mood and position to play peacemaker between Gerrard and him. "He's just frustrated. We had a good plan, and the whole thing went to the Hells in a handbasket when they started comin' outta nowhere, movin' way faster than those other ones. And now that damned silly kobold has chased off after one alone, he's worried it's his responsibiity.to save him. You did good out there. Your uncle would be proud. He'd call you an idiot, sure, but he'd be proud."
Looking over the edge of the roof, Gerrard can barely make out the shape of Thwack's foot behind the rocks at the bottom of the cliff. It's moving. There's no sign of the assassin.
Inside, Bokobear continues to heal Qivys and keep a close watch on their surroundings. There seem to be no further immediate threats.
We'll come out of initiative for now. Everyone may act.
Landing on both feet, Thwack turns his head slowly to the side and sees just how close he came to being shredded by the rock face. He let's out a sigh that's drowned out by the sound of the wind and rain. It's then he hears what sounds like Gerrards voice. Dismissing it as an audible illusion caused by the wind he scans the water for signs of his quarry.
With nothing but waves and rain he decides to return to the keep. Shoulders slumped in defeat he makes his way back towards the roof.
(Happy to apportion the healing to whoever wants it, I think there are 6 2d6 rolls left?)
Boko stays guard, and tries to figure out if she is affected by the strikes from the blue-yuck-covered undead. Those strikes that got through were nasty.
As he sees Thwack approach, Gerrard breathes a sigh of relief, calling down, “Grab hold if you want a ride back up, or just come in the busted door if you like.”
Once Thwack is back to safety, Gerrard heads back to the others. He moves over to Qivys and says, “I apologize for speaking indirectly—that is a personality flaw I am attempting to correct. Let me state my thoughts clearly…”
”We were caught out of position and you fought bravely and effectively…However, after Master Fenwader was taken down quickly and the rest of us retreated to the choke point, you remained letting yourself be surrounded—a bold move for sure, and it might have worked against a lesser enemy,” he continues, “But as it was you were defeated and if not for the rest of us coming to your rescue, you would already be on you way to joining the undead ranks.”
”I’m not going to tell you how to fight—battle is chaotic enough that nobody makes the optimal decision every time. Just realize when you take a big risk, you risk the rest of us as well, because I’ll be d**ned if I let another friend die if I can help it. I failed the crew of the Soul of Winter and d**n near everyone else on board, and that is NOT going to happen again while I still draw breath!” the young noble says passionately, haunted by an excruciating memory.

"Death comes fer us all." Qivys replies to Gerrard. "I will do what I think is tha right thing ta do and when it's needed." Qivys turns his attention to helping where he can but honestly, there is little he can do.
Boko’s form swirls back into a water genasi from the cave bear and the growl that the cave bear had started shifts into a short litany of Boko’s familiar uncontracted patter as she continues to heal with her aura.
“…..RRRRRRRrrrreally, Qivys, do not chase death when an alternative is near. We have been through too much for you to sacrifice yourself to the right and honorable. Listen to me when I offer safe harbor. I would be… vexed if we lost you,”Boko says, healing first Peri, then Qivys with a quick rough embrace, then Peri again, then Qivys, then Gerard twice when he arrives (I think that corresponds to the 6 remaining 2d6s, feel free to roll yourself or I can as well!).
"You're still blamin' yourself for the Winter? Wasn't any fault of ours they got sunk. Someone betrayed us to that Iuz devil; that's who bears the responsibility. Aubrek too, since he hired the ship. But we were every bit as hosed as that crew. There wasn't anything we coulda done better, beat up as we were comin' off the Emperor. You do recall we all nearly got killed then too?"
His tone softens a bit as he tells the nobleman, "Maybe it's just the perspective of a sailor, but the sea is a big, dangerous place, and we're all just travelin' somewhere we weren't meant to be when we're on it. Every fishing boat that sets sail at dawn knows there's at least some chance they're not gonna see port again. Even when the ship makes it back, sometimes it's missin' a man or two. If you're gonna live on the sea, you're gonna have to learn to live with too much death. Now, let's do what we can to fortify this room, and the rest of this place can go to the abyss for all I care."
Peri will seek to build a barricade across the broken kitchen door, then back it up with one of the immovable rods. As he works he considers Thwack's reckless pursuit of the assassin. He tries to figure out how to tell the kobold not to listen to his orders, except when it's important, but to use his own sense. It's too complicated for him to wrap his head around, so he says nothing for now.
