The lizardfolk, sensing arrival, exit their quarters and stand on the main deck, surveying the scene, quite alert.
"Ahagl ah fahf agl" they exclaim in Draconic.
Where is this place?
At the same time, the vessel approaches within hailing range. Four guards are aboard; they wear chainmail hung with the green reed of Saltmarsh, and carry heavy crossbows. They are wary; their crossbows are loaded and raised. They look unfamiliar to you, although Dwal recognizes one he knows as a dock official.
"Ho there! State your business!"
They have an aggressive, confrontational tone and stance.
Gerrard cannot read the Lizardfolk well enough to determine if they are intimidated in any sense, but they pause, consider, and silently comply, shutting the door behind them. The tiny dragonoid remains quietly perched in the crow's nest.

Speaking to Oceanus in Elvish, Gerrard attempts to explain the situation. Looking to Peri, he says, “Captain, perhaps you can explain to these guardsmen how we liberated this smuggling ship at Saltmarsh Council’s request and could use some assistance now, as most of the crew perished.”
Elvish:
“Oceanus, we are at the harbor of the human town of Saltmarsh, and these men are guards of the city, and should be our allies. We were commissioned by the city council to stop the smugglers who used this ship, so we must identify ourselves and let them know that this ship has been liberated.”

"Ahoy there! This here's the merchant ship Fiercehammer's Curse, formerly the infamous smuggler... What was the ship's name?"he asks Elbin. "Ah, nevermind; it's the Curse now! I'm Periwinkle Fenwader, acting captain, and we were tasked by the Saltmarsh Town Council to capture this ship, her crew, and her cargo. And so we have! We're a mite shorthanded to take her into port, though, so we'd appreciate your help in gettin' her to the dock. Farbern and the Council will want to inspect her as soon as possible, and we'd be happy to slip a couple of silvers to each of you for your help. A gratuity, as they say. Now, come aboard and let's get this cog into port, eh? I'll buy the first round at the Wicker Goat!" Persuasion17
Thankful that they have drawn into the harbour, Qiv regains his feet. "Well Kasmen, looks like we've arrived. Bout time too. Don't think dwarves are meant to be sailors." He pats the top of his parrots cage and heads to the rail to what all the commotion is over the side. "Hey Cap, what's the hold up? Why aren't we off this stinkin' wreck yet?"His distaste for sailing becoming ever more apparent.
Looking over the rail just as the Guards lowered the crossbows, Qiv complies with the request for the ladder. "We ain't got no prisoners as such. But we do have customers aboard. Would appreciate if you don't go knockin' on all the cabins. Wouldn't want to disturb our guests."He hollers over the rail and then quickly turns to Peri and winks.
The ship is anchored in the outer harbor, between the nameless rocky island, the town of Saltmarsh, and the mouth of the Kingfisher River. The water is relatively calm here, where the high, cliff-ringed isle blocks much of the gusty wind.
The Guards' ship slowly approaches and turns alongside, parallel to your vessel, preparing to board.
"Drop yer ladder. We jus' need to inspect th' vessel an' check th' manifest. The Crown'll likely be takin' th' ship, I'm afraid. Maybe ye' can talk the Council into leasin' it back to ye' or somethin'."
((I believe Qivys already dropped the ladder.)) Peri will help the inspector(s) aboard. "You're welcome to inspect wherever you like, except for that cabin there," he says, pointing to the lizardfolks' cabin. "There's three lizardfolk who booked passage with the late Captain Snake-eyes, along with some weapons, who are... single-minded about their mission. I don't think they pose an immediate threat, but it'd be best not to rile them unnecessarily. Also, you're welcome to look in the bilge, but there's some nasty worms down there."
Turning to the dwarves he says with a smirk, "Terrible news, eh? Looks like your seafarin' days may be over before ever we left sight of land!"
The grey-haired man climbs aboard. The others prepare to follow.
"I look wherever I like, me friend," he says, smiling, then clicks his tongue. He puts his hands on his hips and looks around.
One of the other guards, a teenager with a bowl-style haircut, looks up and suddenly starts. He fires his crossbow at the tiny dragonoid on the crow's nest.
Heavy Crossbow Attack: 16. Piercing damage: 10
The bolt pierces it through the neck. The little dragon shrieks and flaps into the air, then falls to the deck, dead.
As if they'd been somehow watching, the lizardfolk explode out of their cabin, weapons drawn.

As the lizardfolk are clearly advancing on the Guards, Qivys strikes the first lizardfolk, giving it a crushing blow in its ribs with his warhammer. The lizardfolk, clearly injured, roars and continues to advance with its heavy club.
The grey-haired guard draws his longsword and swings at the injured lizardfolk. Attack: 10. Slashing Damage: 10
He cuts down the first lizardfolk. It is dead on the deck.
The second guard, just ascending the ladder, springs onto the deck and fires her heavy crossbow at the second lizardfolk. Attack: 7. Piercing Damage: 8
She misses; the bolt flies across the ship and into the ocean beyond.
The third guard, the bowl-headed teen, follows the second one the ladder, and gets his bearings on the deck. The fourth guard, a beefy brawler by the looks of him, remains in the guard's vessel and scans the skies.
The two remaining lizardfolk raise their javelins and prepare their attack.

Gerrard:
"Well, there's no help for it now," sighs Gerrard as he moves towards the battle. Stepping in front of the guards protectively and closing with the next closest Lizardfolk, Gerrard, lashes out with his Fencing Blade at the creature's weapon arm, then scissors across with his Main Gauche, feinting a second slice and stabbing abruptly with his Fencing Blade again. Returning to a ready position, Gerrard prepares to defend himself.

Peri:
As the action kicks off Peri thinks to himself, "They must test for common sense, and no one who scores higher than a chicken gets in!" From his elevated position on the forecastle he has a clean line of sight to the last lizardfolk, so he casts a Hex upon it and lets loose an Eldritch blast20 for 5 force damage + 5 necrotic damage. (Hex gives it disadvantage on STR saves)
Gerrard engages the second lizardfolk with a flurry of skillful bladework. Unfortunately, they all slide off the creature's thick, natural, scaly armor.
Above the melee, Peri hexes the lizardfolk at the back, and knocks it off-balance for a moment with a walloping blast of arcane force from his crackling eldritch bolt.
Dwal successfully blesses the party.
The second lizardfolk, the beefier of the two, attacks the grey-haired guard with a heavy club in one hand and a javelin in the other. Club Attack: 13. Bludgeoning damage: 5 Javelin Attack: 9. Piercing damage: 5
The older guard deftly parries both attacks with his longsword.
The third lizardfolk attacks Qivys with a similar pairing: Club Attack: 18. Bludgeoning damage: 6 Javelin Attack: 5. Piercing damage: 5
Its attacks fail to pierce Qivys' thick armor.
Both lizardfolk then turn and race for the railing, attempting to dive overboard on the starboard side, opposite the guard's ship. Qivys and Gerrard may have an Opportunity Attack. (Peri and Dwal are more than 5' away.)
The old guard gets in an opportunity attack as well against the beefy lizardfolk: Longsword attack: 18. Slashing damage: 4
He leaves a small but bloody wound on the lizardfolk's shoulder.
Dwal will cross the deck to where the small dragon fell. He ignores what else is going on, his mood somber as he reverently picks the body of the small creature up. He will ease the bolt out of the body and cast it aside. "Ain't right to kill dragon kin, just ain't right" he says and shakes his head. At this point Dwal has about had it with humans. His disdain shows as he looks around at the lot of them.

Gerrard:
As soon as the Lizardfolk open the door, Gerrard moves over to the doorway, blocking their entry into the deck. He speaks to them quietly in Draconic.
“We are stopping at a human city. Stay in your cabin and be quiet if you want to have any chance of finishing your mission!”

"Uh. Sea Ghost," mutters Elbin to Peri.
Realization dawns on the Guard as to who you are. They lower their weapons.
The spokesman, an older man with long grey hair and no visible teeth, responds,
"Eh," he nods. "Good work I guess. Where's Fossie an' th' Stone got to? Throw down yer ladder, wouldja? Ye' got prisoners?"
Qivys
Thankful that they have drawn into the harbour, Qiv regains his feet. "Well Kasmen, looks like we've arrived. Bout time too. Don't think dwarves are meant to be sailors." Qivys may go first.
Qivys
"Ah, dang it. Now you've done it you beardless fools. This could start something you don't really want a part of."
Figuring they've lost the ship to the Town Council he takes the side of the guards.
He draws his hammer and steps infront of the young bowl cut guard. He will swing at the lizard that approaches.
