Kevin walks towards the staircase to see if he can hear any movement above.

Sol moves closer to the window and puts dart inside to explore.

Dewey: You easily unlock the main door from the inside and let the party in.

Randy: Among the corpses you find the five men that the patrons of the Skewered Dragon described. You also notice the men each have a black tattoo of a winged snake on their neck or forearm. The rest of the corpses you don't recognize, but most of them have a tattoo of an eye somewhere on their body.

Renaer Neverember and Floon are not among the corpses.

Kevin: Make a perception check to listen for movement.

Sol Rhea: You release D'artagnan Pennysworth Buttondown II into the room and he flies around. Make a perception check for your bat.

Randy turns to his companions. "I found the five men that the patrons of the Skewered Dragon described. Also, the men each have a black tattoo of a winged snake on their neck or forearm. The rest of the corpses I don't recognize, but most of them have a tattoo of an eye somewhere on their body. Renaer Neverember and Floon are not among the corpses." Does Randy recognize the tattoos?

Randy: You've seen similar snake and eye tattoos on the men and corpses the City Watch were dealing with. You remember the eye tattoos mean they're members of the Xanathar Guild. The winged snake you recognize from the door of the warehouse.

Sol moves inside to join her friends, moving over to carefully peer down that dark hole.

Dart perception: 5

Randy will search the corpses for loot.

Perception check: 5

Dewey also searches for loot/traps/threats... Perception = 4

On further inspection there is no dark hole and Sol checks the closet door.

Sol Rhea: D'artagnan Pennysworth Buttondown II flies around the room and finds nothing but tasty moths. You make your way north towards the closet.

Randy and Dewey: Looking over the corpses, it seems like someone already looted them. The pile of weapons next to the corpses also points to this.

Kevin: You strain to hear movement or voices but all you hear is the party.

Suddenly, from behind some boxes at the north part of the warehouse you are all surprised by four short, avian creatures with long beaks and black feathers. Each wears a hooded cloak and wields a shortsword.

Everyone roll initiative.

Because you were all surprised by these avian attackers, they get a free round of attacks.

Randy: The first Bird Person runs at you with a shortsword. It opens its beak and yells "Die damn it!" but its voice sounds like a husky older man rather than a short bird.

Bird 1 vs Randy: Attack: 8 Damage: 6

You are able to easier move out of the way of the creature's attack.

Dewey: The second Bird holds its ground and fires an arrow from its shortbow at you.

Bird 2 vs Dewey: Attack: 16 Damage: 9

The arrow harmlessly plinks off your armor.

Kevin: The other two Bird People ambush you, one with it's shortsword and the other with its shortbow.

Bird 3 vs Kevin: Attack: 23 Damage: 6

Bird 4 vs Kevin: Attack: 21 Damage: 9

You are mercilessly stabbed and shot with an arrow at the same time, and you are knocked unconscious.

Before we start normal combat, does anyone want to make a Nature or History roll to identify these creatures?
