Yeppers. Yokini draws out the knife, which has now been mostly cleaned of blood, and puts it on the counter. She apologizes to Sarah. "I forgot I had this."
She loooks at it. She is inspecting it as Zashier walks in to join you.
Yes, this is the knife we were working on. Urnsul did...ok. This is not up to my standards, and would have been fixed in the time given to make the knife. I do not know how you found it. Last I saw it, yesterday morning probably, before the celebration, it was here. Look (she shows you a blank part of the blade with a few minor etchings) the inscription hasnt even been added yet.
You notice she is right. The receipt said there was an inscription, but the knife you have has no inscription on it. There are a few small etchiings, as if it had been started, or sized, but no significant imprint had been made into the blade.
It wasnt finished. I dont know how you found it with Romero, but he never picked it up here. It simply wasnt ready. If there is nothing else, I need to get back to work.
OOC: I don't mean to be fussy, but in post #1026, after I asked if the engraving was there, you said, "Yokini, the engraving on the knife you have does indeed match the inscription from the receipt" That was a mistake? Or has something changed from then to now?
OOC > I do believe Sara is mistaken. She does not have the knife. I think we still need to talk to Urnsul the smith who was assigned to make it. The mystery deepens!

"Well, that solves that mystery," Yokini says, not sounding any more relieved, after thinking they had found someone else's hopeknife with the body. She turns to Zashier. "So, even though this knife doesn't have the engraving, Sarah says it's the knife they were making for Romero, which goes along with the receipt we found, but she says it wasn't finished because Urnsul quit before finishing it, so Sarah's not sure how Romero ended up with the knife. We also have no idea why Romero would have been ordering a knife, not to mention one that is inscribed in such a curious way."
I'm assuming Lem has faded into the background here, and Sara's grown used to his weird mutterings and gestures. So...
Lem casts detect thoughts again, and ambles over directly in front of Sara. "But really, what else are you hiding? Or who? I've got a nose for this sort of thing."
Zashier is slow to respond, to say the least. Even after decently fair walk, entering the shop, the elephantine man seemed to be out of it. He only just seems to be coming out of the strange state after Lem speaks, and looks at him funnily. "Well, I do believe I can answer the receipt thing now. Bit of some slyness on Romero's part, all things considered, to get back in the good graces of his wife, you see." He explains, and would chuckle after without much mirth.
"Bit of a misstep on his part sometime before last night, as I've come to understand. Which knowing Romero as I do, was rather interesting to find out he lost his wife's original one. But if I was betting man, which I'm not, typically speaking, I would assume it was stolen. Though why would anyone steal a man's hope knife is beyond me." He explains.

she is thinking about hiding something, or someone, you arent sure. Surface level, she is thinking about hiding and protecting. Doesnt want you to find out, whatever it is. Not in a guilty sort of way, in a protective sort of way. You dont get the feeling she is "hiding" it (whatever it is) because of something bad she did. She doesnt have thoughts of anger, or malice, or intent to hurt. Just protection, and the best way to protect is to keep it secret and safe.
and while that thought is in her head, she eyes you warily...all of you...and finally says.
Why do you want to know all of this? what exactly are you doing? I thought Romero's death was a suicide?
"We have reason to believe it wasn't suicide," Yokini finally says. "We shouldn't go into detail, but we're following a few leads to see what we might find out."
"Mmhmm. That's the long and the short of it all. Speaking of leads, there is two to three more on the agenda, such as it is. But, I feel we are really coming close, I do. And-..."Zashier stops, a thought finally occurring to him. "You, uh, you don't mind if I have sniff around the shop? I caught this weird scent earlier today, and I've been trying to place it for the longest."He says as much, but hardly waits more than a couple of seconds for permission or denial. Enough for the start of either from the Half-Orc smith, but not enough to keep the compulsion to sniff around to see if the building had the same unidentifiable scent as the one he caught in Romero's room from getting the elephant man moving.
Zashier, you do catch the scent of something... Not the same scent you smelled earlier, though it it familiar....it has a sense of orc-ish ness to it...maybe you close your eyes, and follow your nose. And when you do, your trunk leads you around the shop, and stops when it hits something. you open your eyes, and your trunk is touching Sara...the half orc...and she gives you the strangest look, and asks you all to leave - not in a mean way, but in a very "this weirdness is over" sort of way.
As you exit the shop, its probably midafternoon. Where to?
When Lem steps outside with the rest and they walk out of earshot, he asks Thistle, “Since you’re quiet, do you want to keep a watch over her? I can make you invisible for an hour. It’s not clear to me she is relevant to our line of inquiry but you all seem very interested in her.”
Lem looks each person in the eye. It’s weird because he doesn’t do that very often.
“It seems we need to find out what Romero was looking into. Did he keep notes, confide in anyone, or anything else that would give us a clue about why this nondescript person checked into the inn and maybe killed him. It seems clear that Romero didn’t want to die. We can’t track down this nondescript friend of Melina’s, can we? Maybe someone saw him leave town. Or if he was disguised we can find the real identity. None of this has to do with who has whose hopeknife. Forgive me if I speak bluntly.”
Zashier just kind of stared off at the shop after, looking kind of sad with his ears flopped to the sides. His eyes doesn't quite meet Lem's eyes direction as a result, but he did eventually perk up, noticing some of the looks after the fact at least. "Oh yeah man. Quite a few things, if you can believe it, which I certainly hope you do. I'm thinking Romero, being the smart egg that he is... was... hid some of his findings in his poetry book. If we can find that, we can get our answers." He admits.
"He had this muse too you see, according to Ms. Brinya. Who we should be able to find them at Sanctuary, if all goes well. Just would need to make tracks, in a matter of speaking. And seeing as we may not be able to take a search if it gets too late too, come to think of it. So, shall get get going?"

Ok, so we have established Yokini has the knife. Thistle produced the receipt. Do you bring out the bloody knife?
