(OOC: for future reference, would Raven get advantage on those surprise attacks?  Surprise itself does not allow this, but being hidden from them would. So if she is hidden and has surprise, then she would get advantage.  I rolled the previous attacks without advantage, since I was not certain, but would like to know for the future.  She will be looking to do the sneak-ahead, and (hopefully) have surprise, as often as she can, so this will be coming up often.)

Before taking out his wand and saying his arcane phrase that causes three glowing dots of magical energy to appear around him before expertly dodging around everything to hit Quentin's targets, three separate worms.

((Hmmm, good question. Technically, I suppose that in some situations, as in the case of preparing an ambush, you could get both hidden AND surprise. Looking at discussions of the rules, in this case I probably should have given you the hidden advantage instead of the surprise attack.  But I'm going to let it stand as it is, I think, and will be more careful in the future.))

We are into Round 2! Elwin and Mindartis are up.

(It is up to you, but, going by surprise rules, Raven was not spotted, so would have had the group surprised still...

The DM determines who might be surprised. If neither side tries to be stealthy, they automatically notice each other. Otherwise, the DM compares the Dexterity (Stealth) checks of anyone hiding with the passive Wisdom (Perception) score of each creature on the opposing side. Any character or monster that doesn't notice a threat is surprised at the start of the encounter.

If you're surprised, you can't move or take an action on your first turn of the combat, and you can't take a reaction until that turn ends.

A member of a group can be surprised even if the other members aren't.

So what should have happened is that Raven would have been the only one with the 'surprise' round action. She was the only one not noticed by the monsters.

Since she was also hidden, then she would have been both hidden and with surprise.)

Mindartis growls gives into the fury of summer, feeling the power of the feywild course through him.

As his fury overtakes him, the ground around his feet seems to burst to life as he charges at the grubs, swinging at one.

Elwin spun, seeking the ooze he had yet to hit. As soon as he saw his opening, he lunged with his spear, aiming at the mouth. Then a pivot and flip of the spear as he returned to striking at the other creature, attempting to down them both in a couple of strokes.

Quentin deftly sidesteps the clothes-ruining rain of acid that spattered poor Del (who still managed to get a strong hit in) in the face as he sends three bolts of magical force into three grubs! A forest of mushrooms, lichen and wood fungi sprout from the pinewood floor around Mindartis's feet as he lashes out and completely destroys a grub! Elwin's attack finishes off one grub and tears open another. Four grubs are down, five wounded, nine still attacking.

With another attacker in view and some new open spots in their ranks, the grubs shuffle their targets...

Missed by the yucky but incompetent goobers, Del shouts out Don't spread your attacks - I can't keep track of which ones are how much wounded! Give a shout if you're badly wounded, but for now I'm going to hurt them rather than heal us!

Del decides to copy Raven, and draw another dagger and stab at grubs that attacked him with both hands: Attack with Dagger 22 if hit damage is 6

and with the other hand (the same grub if it is still alive, the other if the first one dies) bonus attack with Dagger 20 if hit damage is 4

With his off hand, Del manages to poke a hole in one of the grubs attacking him, fortunately one that is already wounded...it is no more.  Raven spins in an awe-inspiringly deft double attack...which looks impressive, but sadly fails to hit. With remarkable restraint and foresight, Lord Quentin does NOT hurl a bolt of fire at a creature which is basically a big bag of oil, gristle and pine resin living in a dry old rotten tree.  His magic missiles take out one of the formerly uninjured grubs.

Mindartis and Elwin are up.

Elwin takes 2 damage; 4 temporary hit points left as he does 10 cold damage to the first grub

ACTION: Elwin attacks the last non-frozen grub near him - 13, Damage incl. crit - 6

Elwin dodged one attack, but suffered another, and again the frost armor lashed back in retaliation. Steeling himself, he lunged toward the last one near him.

Seeing that the blow landed, he rushed toward Quentin's side--whether out of concern, or due to doubting the noble's capabilities, it wasn't quite apparent. With a spinning strike, he swung at another of the gross creatures.

MOVE: Elwin moves to engage with one near Quentin, focusing on whichever appears most damaged

Mindartis turns his attention to the gurbs trying to attack him and swings his greatsword at the one who looks the strongest.

Mindartis's mighty blade swings just over the top of the grub's head! Elwin takes out two of the wounded grubs...there are four left, now, two wounded and two still unscathed.
