Umbriel, you are able to determine that this big hunk of metal is adamantine, and it looks like it is part of a very large ring and was once part of some enormous magical construct, although it has been buried for centuries.
On Ildmane's body, you find a magic wand that looks like a tuning fork. It is about 4 feet long and weights 100 pounds, fitting comfortably in a fire giant's hand.
On Okssort, you and Whistler find a large bag that looks like a giant belt pouch. Inside you find a half empty cask of ale, a wooden oar, an empty wooden chest, and a tent that is all bundled up. You also find a very large ruby pendant that is worth about 1000 gold.
On the Orog bodies you find 41 gold pieces worth of mixed coinage.
As you are investigating the hole and the bodies, Darz comes up and thanks you for helping with the attack. He says that was recently visited by an old acquaintance, a merchant from Mirabar, with an interesting tale to tell. The merchant saw a dwarf cleaning stables in Xantharl’s Keep, a fortified village on the Long Road, and later recognized him from a wanted poster he saw while traveling south through Longsaddle. The merchant is sure that the dwarf he saw is a wanted brigand known as the Weevil; according to the wanted poster, whoever delivers him alive to the authorities in Mirabar can collect a reward of 5,000 gp.
As a way of thanks Darz passes this information along to you and says he is too old to go after the Weevil.

Nyx helps the others put out the fire in the town and check on those that need medical aid.
Once she has the time she come back to the area the giants had started to dig up. "Why do you think they wanted that for? And to kill an entire village just to get to it.."
"I imagine a blacksmith of considerable skill could forge such metal into armor and weapons, but I'm not well versed enough to know what their properties would be. What worries me is that this is no mere vein of ore, it appears to be a part of something larger. In order to protect this village, we may need to remove it and either hide it, or have it reforged."
Umbriel considers the oversize wand. "Do you think this would shrink to the size of the user? It is magical, and it never hurts to check, I suppose. If there are no more fires to put out, and if the townsfolk are safe, then I'd like to take an hour to compose myself - then we can try interrogating the giants if you like."

Nyx is able to stabilize one injured child and an adult. As she is helping near the Lion's Share, she is interrupted by a loud wailing sound and looks over to see Alaestra kneeling over the body of Narth. She looks up, tears streaming down her face and sobs: "He always wanted to be an adventurer. I begged him to stay inside! Why!"
Umbriel and Baeshra and anyone else who joins them after the fires are put out take a short rest. Droop partakes: Droop HD: 1.
While you are resting, Darz pokes around the hole. "Wowee! That's what them giants were after?"
Ghelryn Foehammer also rests with you, having not gotten up after being brought back to consciousness. At the end of the rest, he stands up and shakes his head. "Got us some giants, we did! And ye lot were a mighty big help, aye. I'll write you a letter of recommendation, you folks take it to King Morinn or Queen Tithmel if you find yourselves in Citadel Felbarr. They will give you a little something for your efforts, darn right."
Lyngheid hears the wailing, " Why did someone not tell me there were fallen! I may have been able to........", she looked troubled.
She headed over to see what mundane things she could help the bereaved with....she will use what little healing energies she has left to aid all she can.
(did the wand shrink at all during the short rest with Umbriel's hand on it?)
After the rest, seeing the damage to the town, Umbriel will speak quietly to the rest of the group. "This town has seen some rough treatment. We're going to need the townsfolk to help us dig this out if we're taking it away. What would you say to leaving that expensive looking ruby here for these people to rebuild with? Besides, with Foehammer writing us a letter of recommendation, we can always get our reward later. I just don't want to take all the spoils since everyone assisted and some made the ultimate sacrifice."
Umbriel looks over at where Narth lies in Alaestra's arms.
Whistler overhears the giving of the loot talk and agrees. "Owlbear and Whistler think Owlbear need armour too. Leather to sneak," he looks at Foehammer. "You make *hammer striking anvil*?" He finally brings out the remaining loot from the whole except the weird metal at the bottom and sits down with the rest to have a drink.

Did you use the short rest as a short rest or to attempt to attune to the magical rod?
(Actually no, I used HD. Maybe before we leave town, then.)
"It sounds like we're in agreement, then - a magic wand, even one as prodigiously sized as this, could be useful to us, but I suggest we give the rest to Darathra to help her people rebuild. I know we have unfinished business with Agatha and that green dragon, but both of those threats aren't going anywhere anytime soon, and we may find more answers at Citadel Felbarr. At the very least, if we take this ring with us, they may be better suited to protecting it from future giant raids." Umbriel looks back at the giants. "Do we want to see if we can get some answers from the corpse of the first one we killed? I can ask it five questions, but you'll have to coach me on the giant-speak before we begin."
Othovir rises from where he was resting next to Foehammer.
"Allow me to express my gratitude as well. I don't have much to offer you, except this: In Silverymoon, there is an evil family, the Margasters. They have a stash of magic items that they obtained illicitly. Should you find yourselves there, you would do well to take these items from them."
And he proceeds to provide details on where the items are at the Margasters in Silverymoon (Info added to the quests section of the campaign page).

Umbriel will sit on the ground in a meditative pose, one hand resting on the wand, and unless otherwise jostled, will attempt a short rest.
Baeshra would also relax nearby, taking a moment to pull himself together in case anything else bad happens.
" We take the admantium far from here and we advertise the fact that we have done so, so that they have no reason to try again."
