As the statue hands Hrothgar the blade before crumbling he looks around seeing his allies recovered from their grasp. Hrothgar then sheaths his old sword taking the handle in his hands of the new blade.
Responding to Aerdeth. Arrogant? Their duty as watchers was upheld. It was lack of arrogance that allowed us a chance to explain our presence. You know it can be difficult to show such restraint when following the ideals of a god.
Aerdeth: You look down the stairs and see another floor down below with all lights extinguished. The floor looks to be carved from stone just like the floor you are standing on right now, and dropping low to get an angle you can barely make out a flickering as of some kind of torch off into the distance.
Lia/Emma: The familiars drop down into the basement and fly through the darkness along a hallway that turns to the left about 90 feet in. Around the corner begins the holding cells of the keep, most empty, but a few with people lying on the ground and a couple with several people huddled into the corners of the cells. The floor beyond around the cells area and further back are covered with with a thick mist that rolls and swirls in on itself over and over.
All: The rest of the groups finish searching the upper and lower floors and come into the room to report in. "We've searched both floors from top to bottom and haven't found anything else. We haven't touched the tower door. What's the plan here?" Aden says.
Hrothgar pauzes looking around having expected the lich to be here. Then turns to Lia Your scouts. The basement, we must hurry! He says without making much of a sentence he hurries down the tower again shouting They must be in the basement! For all including Aden/Edward to hear.
He will move quickly untill they reach the holding cells that Lia/Emma had scouted. Assuming we still see the mist ahead. Lia can your scouts see whats beyond the mist?
While saying that Hrothgar will use the Sun Blade to make the blade of light to be able to see more down here. Iluminating the area, holding the sword in front of him in the air.
((I'll be honest, I got completely lost between when the basement was being scouted and when the group decided to go upstairs instead of down. Guess I took it for granted that the lich was going to be downstairs and assumed the party was heading that way. Whoops. I'm gonna wait a few posts until I get sorted out. :) ))

"It's mist, not darkness." Lia says with a shake of her head. "Senseless to send the familiars in and probably just have them taken out." She moves with the others down to near the holding cells, Emma close by.
Zogar finds himself in the curious situation of having all his spell slots available but not really having anything relevant to cast at the moment, instead cinches his armor a bit and prepares to follow Hrothgar.
As you race from the tower to the entrance to the cellar below, you hear the other two parties fall in behind you. You make your way down the stairs and through the hallway beyond before turning left, finally coming to the room with holding cells. You find yourself in a roughly 50ft by 50ft room with cells made up of iron bars wrapping around all of the walls except for the entrance you just came through and another doorway exiting on the opposite side. The floor is covered in mist that flows and swirls about and as you enter almost seems to wrap and cling to your feet and ankles as if it intends to hold you in place. Moving causes the mist to fly apart and settle back down again without any effort on your part.
There are seven cells on either side of the room while some of the cells are empty, four of the cells on the right of where you entered have one person each in them, all lying down and mostly covered by the mist, three of the cells on the left have three people each which are all sitting huddled together. As Hrothgar steps in the room and causes the Sun Blade to expand it's aura bathing the room in sunlight, part of the mist shuffles out of the opposite door and flying through a short hallway and seeping under the cracks of another door there. The four people in the cells to the right all jump up and try to run, but the cells are still locked. They scream in pain and madness as they begin to attempt to rip the doors off to escape, but it's too late and they begin to smoke as their skin blackens and burns and they fall over dead less than a minute later.
One of the women huddled up in the cells stands up and clutches the bars of the cell as she weeps, partially in sadness, but almost in relief. "One of those men was my brother, he was a good man and didn't deserve what that creature did to him. Thank you for putting a stop to the abomination that he was made into."

(creepy setting :) nice. Would Hrothgar of seen if the four on the right were some kind of undead? )
After seeing the prisoners burn which seem to be triggered by his sword he narrows his eyes and looks at his blade again as its light shines bright. Unsure if the prisoners could of been helped had he not used the blade.
Responding to the woman nodding in respect. Im sorry we could not of done more.
He turns back looking for Aden. Aden,Free the prisoners. He says trying not to raise his voice to much as he listens for noise up ahead or allow others to hear it. (perception 14 for sounds ahead coming from the short hallway or beyond)
Hrothgar looks to his companions and nods as a prebattle 'this is it' and falls into their normal formation having Hrothgar leading with his shield held in front of him and the sword raised slightly above it to light the way. His steps sure and steady but at a normal pace, not going for stealth just trying not to rush into danger to quickly.
Aerdeth watches as the undead turn to ash. There was a sense of sadness in the room, which he allowed himself to drink from, his eyes watching the captive woman grapple with her emotions. He knew they were better off now. Though he usually did not pity the undead that were destroyed, these creatures were not to blame. Mercy might await them, at least - their perversion was not their choice. Taking his hand, he jostles his galan-ralan, wiggling the needles where they dug deep into his skin, whispering a benediction of his own.
"Raven Queen, Mother of Crows, protect me. Let my thoughts, my words, my actions be the prick of your talons in the soul of this lich."
Checking his pockets and cursing his lack of liquor, he drew Obliviation back to his grasp and fell to the back of the group again.
"Let my bow be swift ending to any who refute the end of their turn on the wheel and help me to hasten those worthy of death into thy embrace."

If Aden does not move quick enough for his tastes, Hastings will pull out his lockpicks and move over to the cell so that he can unlock those that having living people inside but first be will make sure that the woman is not lying or being controlled.
Insight: 1
Seeing nothing strange with her he will try to unlock the cell before joining the others.
(OOC: Sorry, meant to answer the other day and forgot, Hrothgar would have easily seen the fangs on them and assumed Vampire Spawn)
Hastings: You aren't sure one way or another if the woman is being truthful or not, but noticing the haggard looks on their faces and how tired they look, you don't think they could be much of a threat either way. As Aden is opening one cell you take out your lockpick and merely slide it into the cell door key hole of another and jiggle it twice before the lock clicks open. The hostages are clearly impressed, thanking you profusely for your help. The woman who spoke up earlier reaches out towards you and instinctively you grab her hand before she can do anything but find that she was merely trying to give you a thankful pat on the arm. She stops suddenly though and looks up at you as if remembering something important, "The others, you must save them. I was so happy to be getting out of that cell, I forgot about the others. There were six more from our village, they were taken below."
All: You trudge forward into the misty hallway to stop around twenty feet in as another door bars your way, this one made fully of iron.
Zogar, ever the serious one, takes his crowbar out and taps Hastings on the shoulder, giving him the Blessing of Mythrien Sarath. Then he nudges him toward the door.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Hastings gives him a look before he shrugs and moves to the door, looking it over to see if there is a lock for him to pick and if there are any traps.
Looking the door over you find that while it is not trapped, it doesn't budge when you try to open it. There is no keyhole, only a handle, so you assume the door must be barred from the other side.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Seeing the door is not opening and has no locks to do so Hrothgar will take the crowbar from Zogar.
We must not delay, we might be able to save more captives.
He plants the crowbar between the door and the wall as best he can. Zogar help me with this door.Applying force with the crowbar to try and push it open (athletics 25).
Hrothgar and Zogar slide the end of the crowbar into the small crack between the door and the frame and begin to heave with all their might. At first the door doesn't seem as if it might budge at all, then with a sharp crack, the wooden bar holding the door shut from the other side breaks and the door flies open, hitting the sidewall with a bang.
From here you can see an extremely fresh and clean hallway leading off into the distance as the wall curves slightly around towards the right. The mists still cover the floor, but checking the walls and ceiling you can tell this passage is new and freshly made, the surfaces smooth as glass and obviously not created by merely taking tools to stone. The passage goes on around for another hundred feet before you see the top half of the walls on the right cease to exist. Peering over the edge from inside the passageway you can see there is a large cavern beyond that goes down further than you can see from where you are. The cavern is lit up brightly with various colored lights coming from below. You also hear the chanting of dozens of voices that reverberates off the walls.
(OOC: Are you keeping the Sun Blade super bright currently?)
(OOC: Are you keeping the Sun Blade super bright currently?)
(No, he will keep it as low as possible. Specially once they see light from the cavern. Not that Hrothgar assumes they dont know we are here but just to try to not alert all creatures that are down here at once).
Hrothgar moves at a steady pace looking at the smooth walls and the floor as Zogar mentions a possible worm. Moving closer hearing the chanting he turns to Aerdeth and Lia: We must stop the ritual! Looking to them since they know magic and have ranged abilities in case we are met with another undead force blocking our melee from reaching the chanters.
As we move into the cavern Hrothgar tries to look for any guards or to see where the chanters are. (perception 14)
