The trees grow closer together in this cavern, giving it the look of a silent forest. A monstrous owlbear crouches low at a pool of still water, its razor-sharp beak and bright eyes on display as its gaze tracks you. Three baby owlbears pop out from the trees, curious.
Mongo audibly harumphs, sullen that he doesn't get a chance to bloody his blades, but none-the-less follows the orders of his superior officer and moves on along with the Captain.
A rough pit takes up half of this cavern. One Red Wizard transmuter and two Thayan apprentices are using ooze prods to keep three ochre jellies in a pit to keep them fighting. If you engage the Thayans, it's very likely the jellies would follow suit.
Mongo to party: "Hey, baby monsters are still monsters...I once saw a baby bulette gnaw the foot off of a Paladin and then jump away with its prize! Besides, our orders were to enter the Doomvault and deal as much damage to the Thayans as possible while learning how to access the Phylactery Vault to destroy the phylacteries within it. So, anything down here is fair game, according to orders..."
Mongo to Kit: "Boss, how 'bout these baddies? Okay to slice-n-dice?"
Amelia is glad they spared the little babies from becoming orphans, but she doesn't feel bad about kicking Thayan ass!
