You walk out the same way you came, wade through the small stream and reach the other side. Rhok climbs the steep slope and reaches the cave entrance Tervaround mentioned (OOC: using previous acrobatics check). Up there he finds a boulder that looks firm and ties a rope. The rest of the group uses it to go up.
The cave opens to a circular room, with the remains of a fire in a pit at the center. There is a main hallway going into the mountain and to the inventors' workshop. There also are four smaller entrances going into this room. Two of the smaller entrances have curtains drawn over them, the other two have open curtains in a similar style. On the open rooms you see small wooden cots, with clothes on top. Behind the closed curtains you hear multiple people snoring.
The snoring continues and eventually fades as you keep walking through the tunnel. The path goes downstairs and turns right to enter the workshop. The room is cluttered with half finished contraptions and drawings. Tinker's tools are scattered over every surface and the lanterns are emiting a bright light. A 10 foot high ledge overlooks the room from the north western corner, there is a wooden pedestal up there with a leather bound book on top.
Two gnomes work independently. A dark haired one is measuring leather straps and talking about a "straitjacket", while the other is testing mirrors and curved pieces of glass over a purple flame, talking about refraction and insanity particles.
They don't notice your entrance at first. Eventually the one fiddling with mirrors sees you through a lens as big as his head. "You there. You may help us solve this issue. His highness Korboz has lost his senses, you see, and we plan to cure him. I'm working out the details of my sanity ray, which would concentrate all the sanity particles in the surrounding area into the head of our patient." He points at the other gnome on the room "but my associate Gnerkli insists that her straitjacket invention would be safer. I think that it may work, but it would take too much time and we need to restore our governor's mind soon. What would you recommend?"
"I'm surely not an expert in insanity, but... can't you use the straitjacket to keep the king safe, until you finish your work on that ray?" Lothliénproposes, trying to be friendly to both of them
"I think both of those have merit." Lia agrees as well. "But, for now, what, exactly, is the issue your king is having. Maybe we can help while you continue to finalize your inventions."
"I believe as Lia does, they both sound promising. The Sanity ray sounds like much thought was put into it, Can Gnerkli describe how the straight jacket invention would help the Govenor?"
"I am Rhok, and these are my companions..." and he bows slightly to the gnomes, recalling Xarroths point of being as diplomatic as possible with the gnomes

"That idea has merit" the gnome replies, measuring another glass disk "that's why I wanted an external opinion on this matter."

"Our good king Korboz recently got mad. I don't recall the specifics, but he grabbed king Jebeddo and locked himself with him in his bedroom. Noe both of them are locked in and won't open their door to anyone" the gnome think for a minute, setting the glass disk in a table and grabbing a pair of pliers "it happened after three of our people disappeared, but I'm sure that was just a coincidence."

"Right, names! Mine is Fibblestib, very much pleased meeting you." he takes the disc with the pliers and holds it over the purple flame at an angle.
Gnerkli comes over "my invention would keep the king temporarily restrained while we talk sense into him, I'm sure this can be solved by applying logical thinking and reasoning."
Xarrothhas keen eyes on the contraptions, but keeps his manners.
The dragonborn bows before speaking, "I am Xarroth, blessing of Bahamut upon you. Hmm, I am wondering, this contraption... from what you said previously, 'concentrate all the sanity particles in the surrounding area', would that not affect the people activating the tool?"

"I had not considered that eventuality" replies Fibblestib "now that you mention it, that may be a side effect of this machine. Now I would need to design some sort of long distance activator to make sure that no one else is near the target when I deploy the treatment."
"Hmmm...Perhaps you'd also want to make sure that there are enough sanity particles remaining so that when others walk into that area, that they don't lose their sanity" Rhokmuses

Fibblestib nods in agreement "that is an excellent point. Sadly my sanity particles detector seems to be malfunctioning. Last time I used it was unable to detect any in the room."
"Glad to meet you, Master Gnomes. I'm Lothlién." he says, bowing slightly. "You said some people disappeared? What more do you know about it?"
Gnerkli answers "well, yes. No one has seen Nyx, Lorilla and Roondar lately. Nyx was last seen at supper four days ago, Lorilla and Roondar went looking for her and we haven't seen them since two days ago. But as Fiddlestib said, it must be a complete coincidence."
"Can we speak to the kings?" Lia asks. "While you finalize your inventions, and see if we can help them, at least until you are finished."
Seeing his companion fiddling with his lenses, Gnerkli replies "Normally you would need to request an audience, but those have been canceled on account of both our kings staying in their room. You are welcome to knock on their door if you want." She points to the entrance opposite of the one you used to get here "Go through that tunnel, take a right on the crossing and then follow all the way down to a double door decorated with a crown."
"Where were them last seen? They disappeared inside the tunnels?!" Lothliénthinks it's all too suspicious.
Gnerkli thinks about it "I remember Nyx was here for supper four days ago. We were talking about recalibrating the mechanical rolling pin to produce fluffier cakes. But everyone is free to come and go as they please in here. She may have gone stargazing and got lost. As for the other two, I heard someone say the were going to look for Nyx, but I didn't pay attention to the details."
"Just a curious question, when were you last in the kitchen area?" Rhok asks, as he wonders if the other gnomes they left in the kitchen area were the missing gnomes Gnerkli was talking about

Fibblestib answers "yesterday for supper I think. Now that you mention it I should get some food. All this design work is making me lose track of time."

Lia moves on through the area heading towards the inventor's area as described to them.
Xarroth hears the snoring, and does a quick sign of blessing in Bahamut's name, following Lia towards the inventor's room.
Lothlién follows, as quietly as possible

Hearing the conversation, Gnerkly looks up and walks towards you.
