"We need to check everywhere." Lia tells the others. "No telling where it is hiding, if it is even here after all." She heads to the door they had not opened between the crossroads and the king's bedroom. Opening it she glances inside.
"Lia is right. Also, it'll be easier to know where we already checked if we can just close the door again." Lothlién is ready to act if anything moves behind the door
"We need to check everywhere." Lia tells the others. "No telling where it is hiding, if it is even here after all." She heads to the door they had not opened between the crossroads and the king's bedroom. Opening it she glances inside.
Lia opens the door and a bright light flashes from inside. The ones standing close to the door are blinded by the glare. A few seconds you regain your sight and notice that you are in a small area overlooking the inventors' workshop ten feet above the main level.
Fibblestib and Gnerkli are taking off dark glasses and looking at the source of light. It seems that Fibblestib is making good progress on his sanity ray.
On the center of this area is a wooden pedestal holding a leather bounded book. Its cover reads "Magick of Gnomengarde" in common, below a title in what you assume is gnomish.
"We are under orders from the kings to search for a threat inside the complex." Lia tells the inventors, calling down to them. "We are going room by room, so this was our first stop." She takes out her dagger and pokes anything and everything in the room. "Don't mind us, we will move on once we have finished up here..."

She takes out her dagger and pokes anything and everything in the room. "Don't mind us, we will move on once we have finished up here..."
Gnerkli looks up at you "a threat? what kind of threat? where you able to speak with king Korboz? you'll have to agree that he is quite mad at the moment."
"Have any of you seen anything out of place perhaps? Anything new where normally it's empty?" Rhok asks the gnomes as well
Gnerkli turns to face Rhok "well, people come and go freely around here. It's common for anyone to use a few tools to improve their livinghood. Besides, keeping the place tidy is not exactly our top priority right now. We have to cure our king first."
Lothlién does the same as Lia, starting the other way around
Lia pokes the pedestal and climbs down to the main workshop. Lothlién quickly follows. The normal stuff doesn't react to your combined poking, that is, tools, furniture and tables. A few gnomish contraptions scurry away, other starts singing and one produces orange smoke that smells of straberries. When you get to Fibblestib's sanity ray he notices you "don't touch it! You may cause it to malfunction!"
"I suggest we leave that alone." Lia says, figuring the sanity ray is not something she wants to be anywhere close to. She climbs back up and heads back out the door they came in, near the king's bedroom. "Let us continue on from here." she heads back to the crossroads. She takes the tunnel that does not lead to the king's bedroom, the inventor's workshop, or the throne room.
Rhok, still blinking the bright light spots from his eyes nods in agreement with Lia. "Yes, let's check out that tunnel."
Looking at the group, Rhok says "Do any of you have the ability to place anything that could let us know if something goes into an area we've already searched?"
"There seems to be a Shapeshifter around. King Korboz is acting weird because he saw the thing. Keep yourselves safe, dont roam around alone, and find us if anything suspicious happens!" Lothlién tells the gnomes before following the group.
"we could put something between the door and the lock, something small, like a piece of paper or cloth. If anyone opens the door, we'll see that it fell. Otherwise, it'll stay there. Anyone have something like that?"
"A shapeshifter, how interesting" Fibblestib doesn't sound too scared "I'll keep an eye out just in case and let you know if we see it."
You get out of the workshop, leaving a small cloth piece on the door following Lothlién's suggestion. The tunnel going south is undecorated and ends in a closed door, very similar to the one you used to enter the inventors' workwhop from the elevated platform. Moving the handle reveals that the door is locked.
This door has a lock in the gnomish style, multiple gears go from it to different parts of the door. It would be almost impossible to lockpick. You get the feeling that you could force your way in, but the broken door may be difficult to explain to the gnomes.
OOC: a strength check would be required to force the door open.
Xarrothgrowls for a moment, this time lacking aggression, "We ask for a key; if the Kings feel this truly is an emergency, there should be no problem to retrieve it."
You walk back to the king's bedroom main door. Rhok examines the way, finding every object in the same position as before.
King Korboz agrees to your plan and reasoning, but reacts poorly when asked about the locked door "the only door that fits your description is the one leading to our treasury. It would not be prudent that you got our leave to enter there unsupervised. We are sure that a fitting reward for you may be found there after you get rid of the shapeshifter."
OOC: you are on Gnomegarde's west side of the river. On this side you have seen the sleeping quarters, inventor's workshop, throne room, king's bedroom, treasury and one unexplored passage going east from the inventor's workshop that you haven't travelled. On the east side is the dining room, kitchen and many other unxeplored areas.
Lothlién understands the king "OK, i guess we can search elsewhere first..." He proceeds to the passage east from the inventors "Let's finish this side of the river"
"What do you think? If you were a carpet, would you close a door, or go down an open path?" Rhok whispers out loud

"There we go again" Lothlién turns around, leading the way to the kings' room.
