Big Al, did you happen to see any sigil's on these Orcs?" Rhok says
Rhokwants to see if these Orcs come from the camp the group saw that had Ogres
There are no common marks among the orcs that attacked the ranch.
The four of you help Big Al to remove the orc corpses from the house. He finds some untainted food and shares it with you, letting you pick any place in the house to rest. The sound of a rooster wakes you up at dawn, finding you well rested. Big Al writes the letter for the townmaster at Phnadalin and a second one for you to put at the job board, asking for people to work at his farm.
After wishing good luck to Big Al in getting his farm back on the business, Lothlién joins the group. "I guess so! Everybody ready?" he answers Lia, leading the way
Big Al bids you safe travels and waves at you as you leave. The skies are clear and the road silent. There are no signs of the dragon.
You pause for a quick bite along the road and set up camp under an oak tree about halfway through to pass the night. Sabastian takes a turn to help you keep watch and the trip continues safely the next day. You arrive at Phandalin half an hour before sunset.
As you approach the townmaster's house you notice a new set of notes posted on the job board. Since Big Al asked you to put a notice for him in there, you take a minute to read over them:
Within a mountain fifteen miles south of Phandalin stands the ancient dwarven fortress of Axeholm, which has been sealed for years. If a dragon attack is imminent, the people of Phandalin might need to evacuate and take refuge in Axeholm. To that end, someone needs to open the fortress and make it safe for habitation. Once you accomplish these tasks, return to Townmaster Wester to collect a reward of 250 gp.
The dragon that besets us is not the first to threaten this region. Between here and Neverwinter lies the barrow mound of a warrior whose magical dragon-slaying sword helped fell a green dragon terrorizing the High Road a century ago. Rumor has it the dragon slayer sword is buried there too. Retrieve it, and let the sword be its own reward!
The orcs have fallen under the sway of evil spellcasters in Neverwinter Wood, and have been sighted in growing numbers near Falcon’s Hunting Lodge. The spellcasters dwell in a ruined manse. Falcon needs someone to make a preemptive strike against it. Destroy the evil in the manse, then expect him to reward you.
"Looks like we have a couple more we can ask the town master about..." lia says as she takes in the new posts. She glances to the others. "Ready to go speak with him?"
"Looking forward to it, yes, lets meet with Harbin. I want to swing by the weapons and armor place, I want to see if these crossbows can be made useable"
A moment after Lia's knock, you hear a voice coming from inside "who's there? I've told everyone that I'm too skiny to eat!" After reminding Harbin about your group, he unlocks the door slightly, a chain on the inside prevents it from opening more than an few inches, but you can see the Townmaster's round face.
He is thrilled as you recount the fight to recover Mountain's Toe goldmine from the wererats "that's one less thing to worry about, an attack from them would be terrible our town" and after seein the note from Don-Jon Raskin, promptly pays the 100 gp he had offered.
The news from Butterskull ranch are met with a mix of relief and sorrow "I'm glad that Big Al is safe. But I also knew his people, my cousin's son was working there. They'll be devastated when they hear about this."
OOC: sorry for the delayed update. I'm not getting email notifications from any forum thread.
"Looking forward to it, yes, lets meet with Harbin. I want to swing by the weapons and armor place, I want to see if these crossbows can be made useable"
After speaking with Harbin Wester, Rhok (and whoever wants to tag along) goes over to the Lionshield Coster, the weapon's shop. From there Linene redirects him to find Thagren Ironforge, the local blacksmith, as she lacks the expertise to repair the weapons.
Finding the blacksmith is easy, you follow the sound of a hammer falling on an anvil. Thagren is a red haired dwarf, with a braided beard neatly tucked behind a hide apron. He has just finished a set of nails and is putting them away as you arrive. He talks in a thick accent "hallo, stranger. What brings you to my forge?"
OOC: feel free to add more to the conversation with Harbin Wester before moving on with this, I'm just putting the message before I forget.
Lia hand sover the letter Big Al wrote for the Town Master. “I am sorry for the family’s loss.” She says with a sad sigh.
We did see the new posts up ont eh board, and will be looking into those items soon I think.” She informs the townmaster, then glances to the others. “Anything else you guys have to add?”
"Are there any news of the dragon?" Lothlién asks.
"Not here, thank the gods" Wester replies quickly "but the woman who came from Falcon's logde to ask for help swears she saw the beast flying over the forest three days ago."
"hmm, perhaps that puts Falcons lodge up our task order?" Rhok suggests
For when the group is done with the town master:
"Hello Thagren, I am Rhok. My group came across some items that Linene referred me to you. These hand crossbows require some work to be operational again, looking at your work, it seems this should be an easy task for you?" Rhok says to the dwarf
Lia doesn't have anything more to add to the town master, nor does she need to go to the smith. She would head to the inn and get a room for the night, wanting to spend some time studying her spellbook.
"Three days? It cannot be long before the dragon looks to expand their territory that will inevitably include the town..." Xarroth shares his concern with the others.
The dragonborn makes his way to the local smithy, hoping for dwarven but a human one would suffice, to exchange his unwieldly javelins for darts...
Lothliénagrees with Rhok: "I guess we should head to Falcon's tomorrow morning"
OOC: is there anything I can do with my downtime that is worth it, considering the lenght of the campaign? I mean, crafting a magic item takes years so that doesn't sound like a option...
