The Wildemount Irregulars (2020)

Balassar looks to Alton and just grunts "These things are really making me angry." he says as he continues his assault on the creatures.

OOC:

Balassar, you cut into the wing and a piece of flesh, feathers still attached, comes loose.  The peryton is in a frenzy, though, and seems still intent on killing and eating you.

Peryton 4 also makes a fresh set of attacks on Balassar:

Gore Attack: 17 Damage: 6
Talon Attack: 22 Damage: 9

Balassar, the creature's beak rakes across your face, drawing blood and momentarily making it hard to see, though you wipe the blood away quickly.

Alton is up.  Perytons 2 and 3 look injured, though not quite at death's door; Perytons 4 and 5 are looking pretty strong still.

With some breathing room, Alton will raise up his hand crossbow and fire it at creature fighting Silent's echo. After firing the bolt, he turns in Silent's direction and shouts at him, "Rub some dirt on those wounds and you'll be fine." casting Healing Word. 

Action: Fire a bolt at Bird2, Attack: 13 Damage: 9 Piercing
Bonus Action: Casts Healing Word at 2nd level on Silent, healing him for 10

Alton's crossbow bolt flies through the air, piercing one of the creature's eyes, and it drops dead to the ground.

With P1 and P2 both dead, Silent is up.

Silent raises his blade in gratitude to Alton before sprinting into melee with Peryton 5 and lunging for its torso. Simultaneously, he'll have his Echo move 20 feet into melee with Peryton 3 and Unleash Incarnation a third time to have it slash at the wing Balassar wounded. 

Silent's Attack on Peryton 5 11 Damage: 16

Silent, as your blade slices into Peryton 5, doing a lot of damage, you see your Echo bring down Peryton 3.  

Peryton 5 attempts to retaliate against you:

Attack: 11 Damage: 6

But misses, disoriented by your forceful attack moments before.

Another of the guards is down, a peryton over him ready to end her life when Captain Fray just manages to deflect the blow with her weapon.

Balassar is up.

Balassar just swings for the remaining bird.

That's a miss, I'm afraid.

Peryton 4 strikes back at Balassar:

Attack: 21 Damage: 11
Attack: 24 Damage: 8

Swift, skilled strikes that would have destroyed a less competent fighter; Balassar knocks one away with his weapon, the other with his shield.

Alton and Silent are up.

Alton whips around from his last shot and takes aim at his next target as he reloads and fires.

Action: Fires another bolt at Bird 5, Attack: 15 Damage: 10 Piercing

Silent aims a wide sweeping slash at Peryton 5's neck. 

Attack 20 Damage: 17  

(OOC: Just saw Alton also targeted Peryton 5 - if it's dead can this attack be sourced from the Echo and aimed at Peryton 4 instead?) 

It takes Alton's bolt to distract the creature long enough for Silent's greatsword to slice through it; after both attacks, Peryton 5 is dead.  Silent, you can move if you wish, and/or take a bonus action.

There's are cries of alarm from the guards fighting the perytons, and more than one body on the ground unmoving.

Balassar is up.

Balassar swings at the creature with all his gathered frustration.

OOC:

The frustration is boiling over and beginning to distract you, and the bird dodges your attack.

Peryton 4 retaliates upon Balassar:

Attack: 22 Damage: 7
Attack: 14 Damage: 10

The beak catches your left shoulder and yanks; you feel your arm pop out of its shoulder socket - it's happened to you before during training, and the pain is intense but familiar.

Alton and Silent are up.

While Silent takes an opportunity to lean on his greatsword and catch his breath, his Echo will slash at Peryton 4. 

Attack 9 Damage: 16   

Silent will then start moving back towards the caravan as far as he can (even if it causes his Echo to be dispelled).  

Silent, you race towards the guards and their fight with the other perytons, but your Echo gets in a solid hit before it disappears.  Give me a d20 roll for your efforts in defending the rest of the caravan.

Alton is up.

Alton will take a couple steps back while reloading his crossbow; aims and fires at the last creature.

Movement: Moves 10 feet back
Action: Fires a bolt at Bird 4, Attack: 22 Damage: 11 Piercing

Alton remains engaged with the surviving Peryton 4, but is distracted by Silent's Echo popping out of reality, and his shot fires wide.

With Silent now on the scene, the guards are doing much better in holding out, but it's clear they still need more support.
