Eldon, this is really good fruit. The crew must have picked it up fresh at Port Damali. It's amazing the strange and wonderful fruits that grow on the Menagerie Coast. You take a moment to reflect on that, as the friendly conversation continues around you.
Silent is licking his lips and gums with a confused expression on his face but regains enough presence of mind to shoot Arael a glance and speak up, quietly.
You're right Captain - this deal is a two-way street made between folks with a, uh, mutual interest in killing some shark-bastards. I can't speak for my fellows but far as I'm concerned we defend this ship as long as we're on it. You saved our lives, after all.
Maybe instead of, ah, renegotiating, and here he glances at Arael again,we can outline the expectations again? You want us to kill sahuagin - we want to throw some survivors onto your ship. If that's all good... then we do our jobs and split ways, yeah?
Survivors? Three Earrings frowns. I doubt there will be any where you're going; it's quite a long way under the ocean, after all. I've never heard of sahuagin taking live prisoners, though anything is possible. But as you say, my handsome, the expectations should be clear to all - that is how business stays business and doesn't become... something less pleasant. So, my crew and I will bring you to where the former Palma Flora languishes beneath the waves. Once the item is retrieved, we will sail to an appropriate dock... perhaps not Port Damali, given recent events, but somewhere nearby, and there you will be compensated and we will part ways. Until that time, I will endeavour to avoid... entanglements where I can, but where I cannot I expect you to do your part and defend us.
She takes a long drink from her cup. Now, what else? More questions? Perhaps from you, my dear? she indicated Arael, smiling pleasantly.
Keyo is immediately conflicted. He desperately hopes there are survivors of this incident, but on the captains words it is becoming increasingly unlikely. The thought of being a Sahuagin prisoner sends chills down his spine. Keyo remains silent and contemplative.
(OOC: do I realize that I’ve stepped on thin ice with Three Earrings or notice Silent trying to keep me from wrecking this deal?)
(OOC: Yes, if you think Arael would have noticed, then she noticed. If you think there's a particular reason why she wouldn't have noticed, then you can roll an Insight check, but Three Earrings is sending out fairly clear signals, so I don't think a check is required.)
The fruit? Three Earrings seems amused. Perhaps if Boerth likes you enough, he will share its source with you. Boerth, do you like our... partners?
The large man has his arms folded as he leans against the wall. I like em fine, captain, but not enough to be sharing that kind of contact. A man needs his secrets, after all.
Keyo takes the fruit and leans back along the wall opposite of the Captain. Taking a moment to himself he bites into the fruit. "By the divine! This is actually really good."
He continues to eat the fruit while listening in on the conversation. He silently mouths his thanks to pockets.
Speaking of Voskiir, says Silent. I've only got one question, Captain... more of a humble request, really.
The Lieutenant seemed like a right stubborn bastard. When we see him again I know you'll want him and his men dead, fair enough. Permission to fight him myself before you stick an arrow in his skull?
Silent nervously fiddles with the handle of his rapier at his belt. It's a personal matter now.
You can do as you please, and I won't get in your way, the captain says. But I don't pick fights with his type. They're a pain; like little lost puppies. And they never quite believe how... unimportant they are in my life. She sighs. Anyway, let us speak of more interesting things.
The breakfast continues, and there's less talk of business and more talk of other things - fruit, adventures on the sea, tips for fighting sahuagin. After a short while, you leave the captain to her business - or rather she shoos you from her cabin, and you have some hours to spend talking or preparing.
The sun remains warm, the day pleasant, and the winds favour you. Towards the middle of the afternoon, you hear a crewmember, the dwarf at the helm, call out: Sharkfeather Abyss! We’ve arrived!
The crew moves to the starboard side of the ship to look across the waves as the first light of dawn creeps over the horizon. Along the distant coast, you can make out the mainland section of Palma Flora, which is intact but appears deserted, its residents presumably having fled in case of another sahuagin attack. The waters around the ship are murky and marked by only a few stray scraps of driftwood bobbing lazily on the surface.
Silent will have spent the rest of the trip on the deck practicing maneuvers with his sword and spear, trying to remain as solitary and focused as possible while ruminating on some of his old master's more esoteric teachings.
When he hears the helmsman call out, he'll stop his training and go find his companions.
You all gather, to look at the mainland in the distance and the waters below. Is there anything in particular you want to do as the ship approaches the site where you will dive in?
I’m just thinking about what comes next. I don’t expect this will be necessary, but if something happens to me and I don’t survive to the end of this, would you make sure my share gets to my parents with this.
Pockets hands you a letter sealed with some gum paste. It’s written in Gnomish.
Their names are Dimble and Breena Timbers. They have an apothecary shop in Port Damali. Or they did five years ago. I haven’t spoken to them in that time.

I have a question? Where did you get this fruit? It’s amazing.

Unable to read the room, Pockets offers fruit to Keyo. Seriously, it’s amazing.

Arael takes a deep breathe and realizes she's in a bit over her head.
Shrugging, she says, well, we are here as your guests and that Voskiir guy was an *******. Revenge and contracts as they stand it is!

Pockets is just drawing in his notebook, thinking about what he’ll do if he survives what comes next. He looks up at Silent.
Silent, could you do me a favor?
Sure, what do you need?
I’m just thinking about what comes next. I don’t expect this will be necessary, but if something happens to me and I don’t survive to the end of this, would you make sure my share gets to my parents with this.
