"I wouldn't call us friends, but there's definitely a lot of catching up we need to do... Shadowless, Hawk Ridge, got it. Thanks, Yolan, much appreciated!" She says with a wink and a smile plus a silver piece that she leaves on the man's stall table.
Having secured what seems like a solid lead, Celica exits the market and heads back to the inn to regroup with her party members, her Righteous Brand doll bobbing up and down with every step she takes.
"Uh, not so long, I guess. Um, sir. You're going to want to speak to the lieutenant. She's inside." He stares at you for a moment. "Oh, yeah, I guess I should open the door."
He does open the door, and at the same time Alton and Celica, having encountered each other on the steps of the inn, catch up to you, bringing the group together once again.
You all step inside the Crownsguard HQ in Feltyr, which is a an office more than a barracks. There's a single rack of weapons and armour in one corner; the rest of the space is dominated by shelves containing a variety of wooden boxes, all closed, and wooden filing cabinets that look very old and in need of replacing.
A human woman is relaxed in a chair, scanning some documents in her hand - more are piled on her desk. Her chair faces the door and she notices you enter, taking the measure of each of you and settling on Balassar as the leader or at least the spokesperson.
Balassar just looks at the kid as he opens the door "Appreciate it, though I could've done it for myself. Come by the inn tomorrow morning if you want some pointers on how to use that." he says pointing to the kids weapon "Last thing I want to see is a dead soldier."
He just walks in as his friends join him "Good day. Was wondering if you could help us with some information." he says walking up to the table to meet her holding out his hand "Balassar, that's Alton, and the other one is Celica." he says just nodding to his companions.
Reema watches as Alton approaches a box, her eyes now fixed upon him. The nearest box is labelled B3-C; it seems to have been painted directly on the side of the box, which looks rather more like a small crate. You don't notice anything else special about it (not with that roll!).
"Hmmm," Reema replies. She looks you over, and then the other two. "Sir, I don't want you getting in any danger. I know the bandits are causing a bit of a problem in some of the villages, but trust me, the Crownsguard has the matter well in hand."
Balassar, she seems sincere enough; just a guard doing her job and protecting the people.
Balassar just smiles "Then you should've met me earlier in life before I enlisted into the Righteous Brand or joined with this lot and became a mercenary. We came here to solve a few problems and these Brigands have found themselves on that list."
"And I'm not sending you off into danger to get yourselves killed. Look, I'm sure you mean well, but I think you need to find yourselves another town. Somewhere they need help dealing with things more in your range, if you know what I mean. Or they're looking for recruits to the east; why not head over and take the King's gold to serve the Empire.? I think we're done. Kef?" She raises her voice at this last, and the young guard from outside pokes his head through the door: "Yes, lieutenant?", he asks, trying to sound professional. "Show these fine folks out," the lieutenant says, with a definite air of finality.
Do you allow yourselves to be escorted out, or do you do something else?
Celica pipes up, gently pushing aside Crownsguard Kef. "Ma'am, please, people are losing their homes. People are afraid. I'm not suggesting the Crownsguard isn't doing enough to help people here, but it seems like you've got your hands full with the town already. Let us help. Belassar is experienced, a former Crownsguard no less. And I was trained by the Righteous Brand to fight. And Alton... well, I haven't quite figured out Alton's deal yet, but all three of us just want to help folks here and track down these bandits. They could be linked to the murder of a noble that we're trying to figure out. Please, if there's anything you know... It could help a great deal."
Balassar just looks at the woman and just nods "Trust me, a few humans are nothing compared to trolls, the undead, or Krynn. However, your choice if you want to help us take them down or not. More glory for us when the story spreads by the bards about how the Crownsguard wouldn't help us save the very town they were tasked with protecting." he just turns and begins to walk out.
OOC: My bad I wrote crownsguard and met Righteous Brand. I blame sleep deprivation
Alton, who has been standing in an out of the way spot, rummages in a pouch as Celica and Balassar talk. He pulls out the badges that he and Balassar got from Hupperdook and Felderwin, and slides them on the desk towards Reema. Leaning on the desk he gives her his most charming smile and says, “We are more than qualified to investigate and assist with these Shadowprats. If you really need assurance of our skills, feel free to reach out to Bram Gulchswattle or the Watchmaster of Felderwin; I’m not sure if we ever got his name.”
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Be excellent to each other, and roll for initiative dudes!
Alton, you can make a Persuasion check. A straight roll - you have advantage from the badges, but disadvantage because she's already told you to get out and she's annoyed now, so they balance out. :)

Alton waves with his introduction, and turns his attention to the boxes and filing cabinets that fill the room.

"I'm Reema," the human replies, continuing to eye you carefully. She doesn't say anything further.
Alton, you can make an Investigation check. Are you just looking at them from where you are standing, or will you go over and inspect them up close?
Alton will go over to one of the boxes closest to him, mostly just to see if they are labeled in some way.
Investigation: 6
(Also, Is Reema a shapeshifter? She was human just a moment ago, lol.)

(My mistake. She's definitely human.)

Balassar looks at Reema "We were wondering what you could tell us about the Brigands."
"Brigands?" Reema answers. "Which brigands in particular?"
Balassar just looks at her as she answers his questions "The ones that have been terrorizing people around here."
