The two women clinked their glasses together. "To no more dragon," Dana said with a smile.
"To no more dragon," Vi agreed, returning the grin. "Thanks for buying me dinner to celebrate." The pair were seated at a balcony table at a small restaurant by the edge of Phandalin, plates of food and glasses of wine in front of them while quiet music played. Vi had left everything but a dagger at home, and she wore a silver dress with black speckles across the skirt, the dress flowing enough not to impede her movement.
Dana laughed. "Least I could do, after you and your group handled Cryovain."
"I noticed you didn't offer to buy all of them dinner," Vi pointed out, raising an eyebrow.
"No, I didn't." Dana leaned forward in her seat. "Should I have?"
Vi smiled. "Hmm...I like it, just the two of us."
"Good." Dana stands and offers Vi her hand. "Because two is definitely the preferable number for a slow dance."
Vi raised an eyebrow and took Dana's hand, letting the captain pull her to her feet and a little ways away from the table. "Okay, I haven't danced in a while, but...willing to give it a go."
"You'll do just fine." Dana smiled and pulled Vi into a spin. "I'll lead, then once you get the hang of it, you can take a turn."
"I don't think that's how it usually works," Vi said with a laugh as she completed the spin to face Dana.
"So?" Dana pulled her close. "Since when does that matter?"
Vi chose to answer her with a kiss.
Vi listens to the exchanges carefully, head tilted as she sharpens her shortsword. Above her, Talav circles, looking for breakfast. "Personally, staying in Phandalin sounds good to me, but if we're relocating somewhere else, that's fine, I'll just be making a few visits back here every now and then. Having a base definitely sounds good, and Tex, I'm all for meeting your family." The half-elf grins at Tex.
News of how you all deterred Cryovain from the Sword Coast and the sleepy village of Phandalin reached many ears. You were quickly told that the town of Leilon required assistance, but not the kind you expected! The settlement has been destroyed and rebuilt many times in its long history, and it is currently in an early stage of a rebuilding period.
The settlers tasked with rebuilding Leilon are funded by the Lord Protector of Neverwinter, Dagult Neverember. Lord Neverember hopes the town can act as a safe waypoint between the cities of Neverwinter and Waterdeep, as well as protect travelers from threats originating in the swampy Mere of Dead Men - so you've heard.
Dagult Neverember knows that the rebuilding of Leilon requires protection. He has hired you all to defend the town from attacks and track down any threats he believes may threaten the town.
LEILON
Leilon was once a mining town that sold copper, nickel, and silver to Waterdeep. It was also a port where merchants sometimes offloaded goods on barges (since most ships cannot pass the town’s shallow mud flats) to be transferred to cities along the Sword Coast. Two hundred years ago, the wizard Thalivar made his home here and raised a tower at the town center to conduct his mystical studies. The House of Thalivar was topped with a planar beacon that lured creatures from other planes into the structure, trapping them there. After Thalivar mysteriously disappeared, the people of Leilon were content to leave his tower and the monsters within alone.
The Spellplague, a divine phenomenon that twisted Faerûn’s magic, corrupted the tower’s defenses. The creatures sealed within were freed to attack Leilon, and the magic of the planar beacon was redirected back into the Material Plane, causing humanoids who looked upon it to become paralyzed. Leilon was quickly overrun and subsequently abandoned and has remained that way for more than a century. The first action the soldiery of Neverwinter took in Leilon was to destroy the planar beacon inside the House of Thalivar. Gallio Elibro, a mage, has rebuilt it to perform his own studies into the Ethereal Plane.
Before its fall, Leilon was defended by a loosely organized group of adventurers called the Swords of Leilon. When the House of Thalivar released its monsters, the Swords fought to cover the escape of the townsfolk. They died, becoming ghosts bound to Leilon’s ruins. They now watch the rebuilding of the town with caution, hoping that the reconstructed tower does not bring similar disaster.
THE JOURNEY
As you travel to Leilon, an oddly shaped building sits at the juncture of the Triboar Trail and the High Road. Two entrances into the building are apparent: a smaller one at the northern corner, and a larger one, suitable for beasts of burden and wagons, near the first. Right now, both sets of doors are under attack by humanoid figures. They have already breached the smaller door, and they are starting to make cracks in the larger.
As the dragon leaves, Iri begins to celebrate before being picked up by Tex. "Yes, we did save the town. No one will believe this back home," she says gleefully.
As everyone sits on the rocks discussing where to next, Iridansa is content to just sit next to Tex, hugging his arm and listen. "I'm okay going anywhere as long as we stick together."
When she gets a chance, Iri finds Vi when they are alone and says, "Thanks for your advice back at the lodge. It really helped. If you ever need help with anything, feel free to ask. I owe you one."
"So, Lan, how do you like it up here? Isn't the surface beautiful? Especially at night, the stars are so pretty. I'm sure if you ever want somewhere to settle down without too many people, there are some nice islands near my home. They are nice, quiet, and my people would treat you like king. I mean, they'd better since I'll be in charge," Iri tells her dark elf friend under the night sky as they prepare for the next step in their journey.
As Gareth is training one day, Iri slips over to him, "Hey Gareth, I was wondering if you would be willing to teach me some about Goliath culture. I knew very little of surface races, and I feel like I should know more about you and Tex..."

"Yes, it has many wonders, although the sky at night is one of my favorites. It reminds me of the glow-worm cavern from my childhood home. If you sat quietly in that large cave, thousands of glow-worms would gently glow a deep blue, providing a magnificent view similar to the stars in this sky. I have seen deep waters in the Underdark, but the thought of vast areas completely covered with water and inhabited by giant creatures is more than I can fully comprehend. I have not heard of this 'eye-land' word, so I am not able to determine if it would be a satisfactory place to live," Lanarial replies quietly, looking around at the night sky.
NOW: As the group approaches the building under attack, Lanarial will hide wherever he can - up in the trees on the side of the road, or behind the wagon Tex is driving - and pull his bow off of his back. He nocks an arrow and aims at the largest of the humanoids, holding his fire until the group determines if they are ally or foe.
From his hiding spot, the rogue fires his first arrow of the killing spree at the second wraith (#2), aiming for its neck and spine. The magic of the bowstring from Tex thrums as he releases, sending the shaft to its target.
