OOC: Yup, moving provokes an Opportunity Attack when moving from a threatened square. So will have to attack first, hope they die, then move. Else, will have to take the Op Attack and hope they miss.
OOC: I think the Rats then Mithrokk then Farnakees. Unless, Alianna's readied action occurs. For clarification - will her readied action occur when the following happens: a) Mithrokk leaves the square where the Rats are or b) the Rats leave the square where Mithrokk is?
OOC - Alianna doesn't have to hold her fire. Fire Bolt isn't an area cantrip, so you can aim it at the rats and not Mithrokk (though you might singe his beard, hehehe). You can make your attack now; if you choose a ready action, then the rat swarm acts before Mithrokk and Farnakees.
OOC: I'll just roll the attacks of the rats already, though I'll not roll the damage for those attacking Mithrokk, since Alianna's attack could mitigate the damage or she might even wipe out the rats.
The rats continue to swarm over the two warriors. Will tiny teeth and claws get through that armor?
OOC: Attack against Farnakees - 9, damage 7 if they hit.
OOC: Whoops, forgot to add 2 to the roll; it's still a miss, though.
The rats chew away at Farnakees, but come away with chipped teeth! They can't decide which is harder, the goliath's armor or the goliath's skin!
With impressive aim, Alliana's Fire Bolt scorches off the remaining rats from Mithrokk's back. The dwarf shakes the dead rats off of him; this swarm is alles kaput!

“Me mam would thank thee for yer help, fair elf.”
Glad to be suddenly free of the swarm and eager to move away from the rune’s blast area, Mithrokk moves 5 feet to A5 and attacks the swarm on Farnakees.
“How do ye like yer vermin, man-mountain? Sliced and diced?”
Swinging his axe, Mithrokk slices off some of the rats near the goliath's head. Fortunately, goliaths are hairless, otherwise Farnakees would have to pay Mithrokk for a haircut.
OOC - Aside from the fact it looks ready to explode again, you can't determine anything about the rune without studying it first by making an Arcana check. You might be able to make a few assumptions, though, based on how it has behaved so far.

Farnakees nods at Alianna with appreciation. To the paladin he says: "Sliced and diced sounds good. Lady Luck is with us today!" He silently intones a small prayer to Tymora - a favorite battlefield diety of his...
He then attacks his rat swarm with relish: Attack: 19 Damage: 5

OOC - The round ends with the rune glowing dangerously, but it does not explode. Lathalas starts the new round.
OOC: Moving provokes Opportunity Attack from rats, right?

OOC to DM: Who's next? The rats?

OOC: The readied action should happen when Mithrokk leaves A4
OOC: Is the rune still there and is it still glowing?
OOC - Yes, the rune is beginning to glow again.

Alianna takes deep breath and with a throwing motion, launches Fire Bolt at the swarm attacking Mithrokk.
Attack: 20. Damage: 8
Will the rat swarm attacking Mithrokk have better luck?
OOC: Attack roll: 22.
And still they miss! In their tiny brains, the rats wonder if they're actually chewing on stone!
OOC: We'll have Alianna's action next, then Mithrokk, then Farnakees.
OC: Do I use this or do i roll again?
OOC: No, those rolls are good.

OOC: Mithrokk is up!
OOC: Woohoo!

Attack: 14
Damage: 14
OOC: How long does it take before the rune attacks/explodes?
I want to know because since it just attacked/exploded, would there be sufficient time to try to deactivate it.

OOC: You can also take the disengage action to move away without provoking an attack (but it does use up your action for the round.)

Lathalas attacks the remaining rat swarm.
Shortsword: Attack: 18 Damage: 9
Bonus unarmed strike: Attack: 14 Damage: 7
OOC - Thanks for the map, Pao. Mithrokk is in A5, though.
The monk's blows strike true -- there are just a few rats left on Farnakees. Rastaris is up!
