When you return to the workshop, Dibbledob and Fibblestib have your cleaned weapons on the worktables. The weapons even smell nice now, with a peach lavender scent.
OOC: How do you plan to smoke out the shapeshifter? Using Message cantrips, King Korboz has informed the gnomes that you have permission to travel anywhere in Gnomengarde, and that the gnomes must render any assistance they can to you.
We ask Dibbledob and Fibblestib to tell us what they think about the shapeshifter.
We also want to know if Fibblestib has a familiar. In fact, we want to know how many gnomes in Gnomengarde are wizards and have (or do not have) familiars.
Dibbledob and Fibblestib refuse to meet with Lathalas after the interrogation he subjected them to. Neither do they give a flying bowl of bat soup about what their king wants. They clearly believe he is mad -- the prototype for the Straitjacket is currently being developed on one of the worktables, and the couple seem to be working on a new set of plans titled 'Revolutionary Democracy.' The only member of the party they're civil to is Farnakees.
OOC - I'm ruling that these gnomes found the rapid fire series of questions rude and insulting; they answered initially because of the successful Persuasion check, but you're going to have to use Intimidation to get anything from them now. Only Farnakees can still use regular social skills on them.
OOC - The members of the party know that shapeshifters exist, from dopplegangers to lycantrophes. The king's description is too vague to start rolling any checks, though. You'll probably need to find more clues.
"Greetings friends Fibblestib and Dibbledob, it does seem our situation here is dire. My companions and I are willing to work with you in the same capacity as Captain Klies, until we are all safe, and these disappearances stop." Farnakees says as he looks at his companions for support, as well as trying to gauge the reaction of the gnomes.
Having been in regions of war previously, and needing to negotiate with locals for food and supplies despite the understandably hostile circumstances, Farnakees fells that making this problem a common goal might be one way to get the gnomes to open up. "Pardon us for our bad manners. We are quite unfamiliar with gnomish manners, and had been beset by orcs and bloodsuckers prior to arriving to Gnome en Garde, making some of our number more grumpy than normal."
"Could you help introduce us to the other gnomes in this area so we might gather more information about this spate of disappearances?"
Noticing the book on Revolutionary democracy... Farnakees asks - "What does this mean? Democracy?"
Rastaris takes the time to cast Find Familiar and re-summons Xelote in owl form.
Rastaris tells Farnakees: "Once everyone is ready, we'll need to speak with the kings again.. We need someplace to start the search. And the last place the king was attacked is as good a place as any."
Fibblestib and Dibbledob will allow Meep to accompany the adventurers as they travel around Gnomengarde, but they themselves have work to do in the workshop finishing the Straitjacket and Sanity Ray. They identify the following areas for Farnakees, though
- G13 Treasury
- G9 Guard Post
- G12 Sleeping Quarters
- G8 Wine Storage
- G3 Dining Room
- G4 Kitchen
- G5 Pantry
- G6 Barrel Crabs ''We use them to lift things,'' Dibbledob explains.
- G7 Crossbow Gizmo ''Avoid this place if you can,'' Dibbledob says. ''That's where Factore built her giant crossbow machine. She's been a bit unhinged since her mate, Ries, disappeared. She fires at anyone who enters the room, even gnomes. We're waiting for her to run out of food and water, then we'll pull her out of the machine and dismantle it. We usually sneak past when we have to go through the room. Factore isn't very aware right now ...''
The couple also notice the battered suit of plate armor that Farnakees carries.
''W e can fix that for you,'' they say. ''We're not smiths, but we learned a trick from a wandering bard with a funny accent who passed through Gnomengarde a year ago. By casting the Mending cantrip several times, we can fix up all the rents and dents in the armor. Afterwards, we'll use the Presidigitation cantrip to give it a new shine and make it look as good as new.''
"Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown."
"If it be in my power to give you rest, my service I shall render unto you."
"Do this for me then! Slay the shapeshifter and brings its body to me! I will know its corpse when I see it.
"It was full of teeth ... so many teeth ... teeth ... teeth ... teeth ..."
The rat continues to mutter the last word ...
OOC: Does Lathalas think he can still speak with the king or that the king is done and we are now to begin speaking with the other gnomes?
"It shall be done, King Korboz."
Lathalas bows then takes his leave of the gnomish king.
The party will seek out Dibbledob and Fibblestib.
We ask them for our weapons back.
OOC: To the Party - how do we smoke out the shapeshifter?
OOC: Dentists.
OOC: DM - What does the party know about shapeshifters?

The party goes to see Dibbledob first. We want to meet with Dibbledob alone (Meep is okay) but no Fibblestib for now.
When we are alone (in an area away from prying eyes/ears/telepathic minds) with Dibbledob, we will begin asking our questions.
OOC: DM - What does the party know about shapeshifters? Can we roll History, Arcana, Religion or Nature?

OOC - Rastaris has the gold to buy the herbs necessary to summon Xelote? And where will he find these herbs?
Farnakees thanks the pair of gnomes for the information and cooperation and leaves the armor with them, with much appreciation.
I had them in my miscellaneous inventory. I learned my lesson from the last time.
