The smell is not the same. While decay was a strong component of the bog-beast’s stench, there was also the sickly sweet and pungent aroma of poison present about the creature. The odor that assaults your nose now is the unmistakable smell of something that has been dead for a long, long time.
While Anakis and Tarek are talking, the creature awkwardly makes its way into the dim radius of the torchlight, and you can all see unmistakably that it’s a walking corpse with the cold darkness of the void burning in its hollow eyes. It now stands 30 feet from Anakis and Tarek and seeing Anakis’s hand wreathed in flame, it begins to move closer. Just waiting on an initiative check from Anakis to see if she finishes casting her spell first.
Here's a map (if I've done this correctly) to help with positioning/visualization. The six small circles in the center are the party. The small circle at the top is the walking corpse. The yellow and orange areas are the torch's areas of bright and dim light respectively.
Ash and Torrent, from the rear rank, you see the rotten corpse emerge into the light, heading for Anakis, whose hand is now wreathed in flame, as if to stop her from casting her spell before it's unleashed.
What do you do before and as she casts her spell? Also, Anakis, do you have any movement to add to your action?
Anakis hurls her fire bolt, and moves 10ft right and 5ft back (2squares right and 1 back). "Sorry Ash, but I'm pretty sure it was drawn to the light. And Tarek talking to it wasn't going to help."
(OOC - yeah, I though about moving Anakis back through the group, but then thought I'd move to here to give more mobility and maintain line of sight without trying to see past everyone else in later turns.)
Ash's spear impales the rotten corpse, which nevertheless remains standing, only to be followed by Anakis's fire bolt, leaving it charred and blackened. It seems on the verge of collapse, but the evil energy that animates it makes a last effort to bend the body to its will.
Torrent is largely unaware of what is going on. He is tremendously out of his element, and unusually for him, afraid. At the sign of a fracas, he simply flicks out his Thorn Whip and launches it in the direction of the shambling figure. If it connects, it pulls the figure 10 feet in Torrent's direction.

Torrent would have to move forward past the person in front of him to get within range of his target, but assuming he does, the thorns rip through the animated corpse's body, and once again negative energy surges through it in an attempt to maintain control.
The glow of un-light burns even brighter in the corpse's eyes as Torrent's whip pulls it forwards, and half its broken rib-cage, along with Ash's spear, sloughs off onto the floor and is left behind.
It uses the momentum to propel itself forward toward Ash, bringing its arms down on him in an attempt to deliver a crushing blow. Attack: 20 Damage: 7
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The radiance fills the corpse with light, driving out the power of void that drove it on, and it falls to the ground cleansed as you hear a distant, otherworldly shriek fade into darkness.
Ash turns to look at you all with terror in his eyes, red in the torchlight.
Wisdom save: 4
Edit: Actually, never mind this die roll. Ash's loyalty to the group prevails in this situation.
"Thanks," he says to Nicolas, looking truly grateful, and gathers up his spear.
With the un-dead creature vanquished, what do you all wish to do?
Just to recap the situation, an old dagger hilt lies on the floor, and the paint on the wall is cracked in straight lines that, when taken together, outline the top of a rectangular shape.
Aluzira immediately draws her daggers when she sees everyone prepare for a fight.

Ash speaks in a low voice, just enough that Anakis can hear him "Anakis! your going to give away our position!"

Anakis hurls her fire bolt, and moves 10ft right and 5ft back (2squares right and 1 back). "Sorry Ash, but I'm pretty sure it was drawn to the light. And Tarek talking to it wasn't going to help."
Ash, is there anything else you would like to do on your turn besides talking to Anakis?
Also, just a reminder to you and Torrent that you can move through an allie’s space, although it does count as difficult terrain.
(OOC - yeah, I though about moving Anakis back through the group, but then thought I'd move to here to give more mobility and maintain line of sight without trying to see past everyone else in later turns.)
(oh oops, I didn't realize that Anakis had a lower Initiative)
Ash is going to walk past the person in front (Idk who it is) and Anakis, and Hurl his spear at the shambling figure.

The corpse remains standing, imbued with the power of un-death. Torrent, what do you do before it attacks?
Torrent is largely unaware of what is going on. He is tremendously out of his element, and unusually for him, afraid. At the sign of a fracas, he simply flicks out his Thorn Whip and launches it in the direction of the shambling figure. If it connects, it pulls the figure 10 feet in Torrent's direction.

The young man absorbs being slammed by the corpse, but another blow like that could take him out of the fight.
What does everyone do? The corpse is 15 feet from Tarek and Torrent who now stand at the front of the group.
I'll resolve your actions in initiative order, starting with Nicolas. Feel free to wait until actions ahead of you are resolved if you wish.
Nicolas finishes his incantation and casts Sacred Flame on the corpse. (DC 13 Dexterity saving throw. Damage if fails: 8 radiant damage.)
