(I'm assuming that the group of mercs attacks *after* we cast our spells, because the entire point of strategizing was to use surprise round to set up and cast AoE spells. Assuming that's ok, then this is what happens before the mercs charge in)
Artin huddles around everyone. "All right, here's what we'll do. I'll make sure the ground is inhospitable while Inva makes sure they can't see anything. Dari will rain down moonfire".
"Now go!" Artin directs Andon and his men to the gnolls. "Dari, rain down moonfire! Inva and Zeg, fire at will!"
Action: [spell[Spike growth[/spell]centered on K15
Note: Because of Plant growth , each square of movement costs 4 squares to move. Also note to the DM, the [spell[Spike growth[/spell] area is probably near-impossible for NPCs to recognize as hazardous since they need a Perception check and the area is obscured thanks to Inva's fog. It's also unlikely that Andon and his men have enough movement to move to the gnolls now b/c of the plants but we posted out of order so...)
Dari: You hear a yelp of pain from a gnoll contained somewhere in the fog cloud.
The four thugs continue thier deadly assult two of them moving twoards the apparent leader (K12), the other two moving twoards another (N15), gravely injuring it.
The gnoll injured by the thugs (N15) is finally incinerated by Dari's moonbeam.
One of the gnolls (O15) moves twoards the southern two thugs (Purple & Blue) and jabs at him with his spear. The thug (blue) attempts too dodge the attack, but just reduces it to a glancing blow, rather than it skewering him through the gut.
Two other gnolls (H11, I12) advance twoards Andon, they both attempt to run him through with thier spears. Andon nimbly dodges the attacks with the dexterity of a seasoned warrior.
The two gnoll priests chant louder and louder, you do not recognize any of the words except for one they chant at the end "...Yeenoghu!" They burst out laughing like maniacs as the large gnoll's eyes flick open. The large gnoll stands up and inspects itself for a moment. At the sight of the huge beast, the smaller gnolls seem to be imbued with renewed ferocity.
Andon finishes off the gnoll to the left of him and stabs the gnoll in front of him. He then looks up at the large gnoll, appearing unfazed.
The large gnoll hefts a large three headed flail, roars ferociously, and charges through the fog twoards two of the thugs (purple and blue) smashing them with it's flail. The southernmost thug (blue) is prepared for the attack, and ducks below two of them, the other, not so much. The northern of the two (purple) is struck with one of the heads of the flail and is paralyzed.
Artin's turn!

"The hero sought to save the world.
"If I keep trying, I'll be able to win," the hero thought.
But the harder the hero fought, the further the world seemed to tumble away.
Drowning in doubt, the hero could not even save themselves.
Hero, if you still believe in a brighter future, hold in your heart a thorn that can pierce all doubt."
Artin raises his staff, bringing down divine light on the large gnoll. "Everyone, fire at will! Those gnolls are stuck in the thorns and confused by the fog!"
Quickly surveying what he could see of the battlefield, a large mass of fur is the first thing to catch his attention. Pulling back his bowstring, he takes aim for what he calculates to be the head, and lets go. The arrow flies true, or so he assumes, as a great roar of pain resounds from the fog.
your fire bolt misses, the large gnoll seems to take no notice of the moonbeam.
The southernmost thug finishes off the gnoll next to him, then attempts to hit the large gnoll, but misses. The thug next to him shakes out of his paralyzation. The northern two thugs swing thier maces at the pack leader, three of the four strikes hit.
One of the few remaining gnolls jabs at Andon with his spear, he attempts to dodge, the gnoll hits him in the upper arm.
The two gnoll preists move up twoards Andon.
The pack lord (Who's turn i missed in initiative) swipes at the thug in front of him twice, one of them hitting hard through his chest, one of the gnolls close to him attempts to bite at Andon and misses.
Andon fells the gnoll in front of him, driving his spear through it's chest, then moves twoards the priests.
The large gnoll smashes at the two thugs in front of him, killing them both. It lets out a cry of battle, rage, and bloodthirst. It then bounds up twoards all of you. (takes 6 damage from spike growth.)

Artin (stand-in) & Invaih: "We must disarm that monstrous gnoll!" Artin shouts at Invaih. He receives a nod of agreement from the latter; that three headed maul was troublesome. Clutching his staff in both hands, Artin summons more divine light, but aims this time for the creature's weapon paw.
"Cover behind me! Your spells must hold!" Invaih yells to Artin, as the halfling struggles to move the five feet distance to his back. Invaih, a final arrow knocked, follows the divine radiance with a streaking bolt aimed at the same hand. He then tosses his bow aside, and starts reaching for his enchanted scimitar. "Zegria, flank! Iradari, the priest gnolls must be taken out before they can heal this behemoth!" Invaih shouts out to each of them.
Artin: Sacred Flame on the hand of the larger gnoll. DC 14 DEX Save, 12 Radiant Damage on fail.
Invaih: Shoots with his longbow on the same hand. Attack 7 ; Piercing Damage 7.
Both are essentially trying to impair the gnoll's weapon hand, or at least make it drop its weapon.

You are sure you hit the gnoll, unsure of where you hit it, but you know you did due to a strange, loud, yelp of pain.
