Midian follows after the two students as they head in the direction of the bridge that crosses to the main city island. The two look very much at ease and they are oblivious to his presence and he only has to pretend that he is interested in a street vendor's products once when one of them looks back over their shoulder. This occurs a little before the bridge, which they don't cross, and instead Midian follows them down a side street which heads towards the river's edge.
This street is a little less well travelled, so he drops back a bit, but not so far that he doesn't see them enter a building actually on the banks of the river. Midian approaches and discovers it is a tavern called the 'Leer Inn'; a suggestive play on words, as the river's name is Lyr. He can hear the sound of exotic music coming from within.

AKA: Phillip Berrie: writer, editor and academic thrillseeker—a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
Midian enters the tavern, buys a drink which he will nurse and moves about, looking like a casual student on the prowl for socialization, ears open for any conversation about the issues of the day, and the typical anti-establishment sentiment he would expect to hear in this sort of venue.
If there are no such conversations audibly taking place he will attempt to find a boisterous group and insert himself into their conversation with the intent of turning it towards current events.
Midian looks up, mildly amused, maintaining the demeanor of an idle academic out for a night of frivolity. “Why not remind me, just for the sake of propriety, good man.”
The man extends his hand and says, "A Constantine will get you in the door and all food, drink and entertainment is free until you either leave or we close. Extra services from the serving staff are available, but the prices of such are to be negotiated with them."
He then grins and adds, "And, I will personally knock your brains out if you molest any of them without their consent."

“Even in a buffet of hedonism, there are always troublemakers, eh? Here’s the cover charge. I value my brains and intend to keep them intact, you’ll have no worries from me. You seem like someone who knows his way around a truncheon,” Midian says, flattering the man a bit as he pays.
[OOC: I have removed the Constantine from Midian's character sheet.]
"You better believe it," says the bouncer, pocketing Midian's coin before adding, "Anyway, welcome to the Leer Inn. I hope our entertainments meet match your desires." He then opens the door.
Midian enters the establishment to see that, while there are tables and chairs scattered around the main room as in a normal tavern, the lighting has been kept purposefully dim and the serving women are all scantily dressed. Midian also notices that the smells in the plus are very different from what might find in a normal tavern. The air is full of all a variety of odours ranging from perfume and incense through to tobacco and even jartinal weed smoke.
There are few customers in the place at this time of the day. But, those that are, all seem to be clustered around one corner of the main room where a small group of musicians are playing for an exotic dancer, who seems to be in the process of removing her clothes as part of an erotic dance routine. Midian sees the young men he followed from the School heading in that direction, drinks in hand and rapt expressions on their faces.

Midian inwardly sours on the place a bit, believing that the distraction of lust might inhibit the sort of lively conversation that might lead to subversive talk, but decides to give the endeavor a chance, having already paid the entry fee. He tries to blend in relatively close to the other School students, feigning the same interest in the lewd dancers, but more focused on any conversations taking place.
The young men aren't talking much—their attentions too much on the unveiling that is occurring before their eyes—and are just simply sitting at their table taking the occasional drink from their mugs.
"You're new here, aren't you," says a female voice.
Midian had heard the woman approaching, but hadn't realised that she was interested in talking with him. She is a Stemian woman, perhaps a little older than he is, and is wearing a long, diaphanous, silken dress cut high at the hip, which leaves little to the imagination as to what might be underneath.
"Can I interest you in anything?" the woman asks softly, moving up closer than she needs to.
She then abruptly moves back a little and Midian sees the look in her eyes change to one of uncertainty.

Midian is genuinely curious, as earlier the family moving out had its male figure deduce he is a member of the clergy, and now the woman seems standoffish. Similarly, the bookstore owner was not as open to Midian's inquiries as he had expected. His hope is to refine his technique at integration and blending in to a role, but thus far that seems to be going less than smoothly.
"What's wrong? Is there something on my face?" He smiles and laughs slightly, in what he intends to seem a self-deprecating gesture. "You sounded so welcoming a moment ago, but now you look like you've seen a ghost."
[OOC: LOL. There are two reasons. What Midian will find out here is one of them.]
While the music plays on and the clothes on the dancer continue to come off, the girl recovers from her initial shock and then comes in closer again.
"You're wearing armour under those clothes," she says over the sound of the music before adding, "Are you with the guard? I didn't think we were doing anything wrong."
[OOC: The professional bouncer didn't notice, but she did when she got close and rolled a natural 20.]

Midian attempts to look embarrassed, and says, “Damnit, mother. I had hoped it wasn’t noticeable. Look, if you must know, I got into a little scuffle, it was nothing really, but my parents make it out to be some huge thing, like it was going to die or something. They insist I don’t go anywhere without a guard and armor on, now. It’s embarrassing, I know.”
He attempts to suggest with this that is a sheltered youth, possibly coming from money, with over protective parents.
”I managed to ditch my guard, wanted one night of fun, but I didn’t have time to lose the armor. And there’s another night ruined. I hope you’re happy, mother - you’ve protected me from having any fun.”

The woman listens to Midian's story but he gets the distinct impression that she doesn't buy it.
Putting on a professional air, the woman then asks, "Would you like a drink, sir?" Then, in a lower voice, she adds, "I won't tell anyone, if you agree to give me a chance to leave first."

”A drink would be lovely, as they’re all paid for upfront, yes? Some food as well, while you’re putting in the order,” Midian says, a bit dismissive of whether she believes him as he did not predict a staff member would be a likely source of intel, in any case.
After a moment, Midian decides to make lemon aid of of lemons, leaning into the role the woman seems to be assuming for him, and adds, “Of course maybe there’s no need for you to have to leave, nor for your place of business to suffer, tonight. If you can give me something more worthwhile. There are bigger concerns in this city than these sort of dealings. Midian approaches the tavern only to be met at the door by a large muscular gentleman with a truncheon stuck in the belt of his padded armour.
"Good afternoon, young sir," says the bouncer. "I don't remember seeing you here before. Do you need to be told the rules?"
