OOC: @GM What does Feldinor know about the Flaming Fist's reaction to escape/evade. And more importantly, what is their reputation for "gentle beatings"? The answers to these will guide my reaction. If this helps: Insight4
Initiative: 6 If it comes to this... OOC: Yeah!! let's get the low initiative rolls out of the way on the not-fights.
OOC: Feldinor, sent your responses back just a bit ago via PM!
OOC: Connected with both Belmort and Sorore; the former has one more thing he wants to add, I think, and the latter was traveling. We should be underway shortly later today!
OOC: Hi everyone, hope you had a memorable and very safe Memorial Day! Kind of worried about this provocation spiraling, hope we can limit the damage done.
Feldinor is completely caught off guard by this obvious overly dramatic response by the Captain. So much so that he is stunned to inaction (OOC: low initiative roll). At being seized, Feldinor's demeanor changes from the usual happy cavalier to quiet and stoic. So the brute wants to try intimidation by force in front of his friends to make him feel big and strong does he. Noted. I'll mark you for my quiet revenge and add your name to the list. Have your fun now. I will have mine later.
The halfling won't resist....won't speak....and won't make a sound during the beating...he will only look directly at Captain Zodge without blinking. When it is over, Feldinor will collect whatever things that they feel they need to temporarily take from him to beat him and rejoin the group, making sure he complies with whatever nonsensical orders the good Captain feels to levy from his talk-hole.
OOC: I coordinated with the @GM prior to posting out of initiative. :) Looking forward to the new undercurrent created here.
OOC: No, to Yokai's question. Feldinor's first paragraph is non-action (roleplay) concurrent with Zodge's orders. His second paragraph is non-action when things happen TO him during the initiative order. Pointedly not compromising initiative, actually (other than both of you posting just now... :-)), just roleplay considerations. More to follow shortly!
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Belmort moves toward Feldnor incase the fight comes.
“Captain Zodge, your command of your troops is impressive. I can see that you have instilled disciplinein them and they respect your authority. I am sure that your troops respect the fact that while you have heavy demands placed upon you due to the current state of affairs, you still manage to to care for their well being.
We are new to working as a group and have not established a strong chain of command. I can not speak for our group, but I believe we are here to work and answer the call to service that has been thrust upon us. Times are difficult for all parties and you do not want to waste your important time on us when there are so many more duties that call for you and your men’s attention.
I and I hope the rest of my companions are ready to listen to the mission you have planned for us. This will allow you to move on to the next group that reports.”
While Belmort does not believe anything that he just told Zodge, he perceived that not being able to work with the flaming fist at this time would only hurt the group.
While drawing a weapon at this point would be detrimental to the group he mentally readies himself to draw his war pick and commit to a fight based off of the actions of the fist and his companions.
Belmort keeps watch on the fist troops to see where a possible attack will come from.
Captain Zodge's one eye narrows as Belmort's booming voice is raised, perhaps half-listening while the massive fighter edges his way toward Feldinor. Zodge's bodyguard of elite mercenaries, however, veteran Flames of the Fist in their own right, surge into action at their ruthless Blaze Captain's prior command. The first of them, a whip-thin olive-skinned man almost as tall as Zodge, with his black hair pulled back in a long, oiled braid, comes at Feldinor from behind and effortlessly grapples the halfling, his features betraying surprise when Feldinor offers no resistance or protest, by the time Belmort utters the word "respect" for the second time. The mercenary instinctively calibrates his Captain's orders, and lowers his mailed fist slightly to plunge it into Feldinor's gut in a second attack...
The force of the blow lifts the small rogue off the ground within the mercenary’s grasp, but gets nothing beyond an explosion of breath from Feldinor, whose unblinking gaze remains locked on Zodge, noting his appraisal.
The halfling's eyes remain looking directly at the Fist Captain as the second metal fist hammers into Feldinor’s flank opposite the hulking silver dragonborn, launched from the swift, muscled arm of a thick, broad-shouldered woman among the Fist’s elite soldiers, with curly blonde-brown hair held back in a flailing ponytail…
Her second attempt connects in a crushing blow, almost felling the halfling, who nonetheless maintains his footing and his silence in the grapple, his gaze still set on Zodge, whose appraisal might now well hold grudging respect for what he witnesses, his attention again shifting from Belmort back to the rogue to gauge the damage and the response.
She fluidly adapts what would be a third, potentially fatal strike into an attempt to rip Feldinor's pack from his staggering body. Her look to the one-eyed Captain for his guidance, however, results instead in her staying her hand, brusquely loosening the other Flame's grapple hold, and steadying the battered rogue on his own two feet before stepping back from him with her own rough nod of approval.
OOC: Well-coordinated indeed, adventurers. Thanks to Feldinor for the additional content describing his further reaction and demeanor! Also of note, Belmort's post above with the alert banner was due entirely to the repair of his Persuasion check mechanics, which he accomplished on a smart phone!
OOC: Initiative passes to Casta, while Belmort's deep voice continues in the background. Of note, it's clear that neither the four remaining Flames of Zodge's bodyguard, nor Zodge himself, are coming out of initiative after relenting with Feldinor's "gentle beating," and instead watching the remainder of the company intently. Six seconds, or cut off after the point that I reach a six-count in reciting, as had to happen a few posts above...
Casta visibly reels from what she hears. Heart and mind rushing, attempting to process the incredulous claim. Concepts rolling headlong and crashing into each other in her mind. Feldinor says something inconsequential after Zodge pauses, but Casta is really not here.
By all that his Holy! Elturel a crater? Surely that cannot be. Torm would not allow that to happen. Hellriders. Companion. Second Sun! Order of the Companion. More secure than the Gate. Land of peace and unity. Paladins everywhere. Torm, Lathander, Tyr, Amaunator, and Helm. Creed Resolute. Remember the Code! Can’t be gone. Blessed city. Blessed theocracy. Misinformation. Deception. Attack perhaps? Ruse to cause confusion. Yuan-ti plot? Destroyed? No. Impossible. Inconceiv...
The mailed fist of Flame Issio lands. The crush of metal and flesh pulls Casta into the immediate present. She blinks with shock. Thoughts redirect.
Feldinor is grappled and abused. Oily ponytail holds the Halfling. Belmort adjacent. Body language? Ready, not drawn. Feldinor silent? Double-check. Yup. Silent. Disbelieve. Woman follows. Big as me. One solid connect. Breath escapes. Robbery then. No … abstain. Situation diffusing? What happened? Feldinor talked. Doesn’t matter. Difficult to read the rest of the lot. Halfling can't take anymore. Must intercede.
Casta takes her lead from Belmort. She short steps quickly into the other flanking position. Rather than look threatening, however, she drops to one knee in front of Feldinor, interposing herself between the Halfling and the rest of the Fist Elite yet to act.
She lowers her shield and raises her porcelain chin. Clean golden locks fall gracefully along her back. Jasmine fills the air.
If more punishment is to fall, let it fall to me!
OOC: Casta plans on no further initiative actions. Prepared to drop out of initiative once everyone has had a chance. Will see about healing once the thugs let go of our halfling.
