The little monk speaks up. Literally. "You just push the locals around a bit, eh? Are there any honest thieves here at all? Anyone with skills?" He seems frustrated. "Are you burglars, or just bullies?" He scowls. "Oh, and how many are there usually at the Sleeping Giant?"

Serwa mouths and stage whispers partway through Xianon's interrogation, "Bullies."

Serwa mouths and stage whispers partway through Xianon's interrogation, "Bullies."
Xianon scowls, knowing Serwa is probably right. He turns on his heel and starts searching the slain, knowing he'll likely not find any tools of the trade.
"I don't how many...honest. Four or five, maybe...they got roughed up, last night, by some new comers..." realization dawns on his face.
Tomora has been biting her tongue, letting Serwa do the interrogation, but her anger finally breaks. Flame blossom n her hand and she holds it close to his face "Just scare them folk a little, hun?! Is that all?! What about that fellow you killed?! And his wife and kids you took?! Did you hurt them?!! Hun...DID YOU!!" She realizes she is screaming at the end.
The man's face goes ghostly white "...T-t-that was Dag's doing! I-I-I swear! The fool.wouldn't shut up! So Dag...he just...he just killed 'im...the family...they're safe as far as I know...in the cells!"
Xianon - there is not much on the redbrand's bodies but there is a pile of coins on the table (24 gp).
"Cells?" Serwa asks, a bit caught off guard - she did not take the Rebdrands for the type to keep prisoners. "You have prisoners on-site here? How many? Where are the cells, and who has the keys?"
Not finding what he wanted among the dead, Xianon rounds on the thug. "Which one is Dag? What does he look like?" he demands. He grabs the Redbrand's collar and yanks down so he can look him in the eye. "Thedwarf has already tasted Redbrand blood," he says quietly, conveniently omitting that she was a wolf at the time. "I think she's acquiring an appetite for it. So let's not make her angry, okay? Who is Dag? And who has the keys to the cells?"
The man's face pales even more and his mouth works wordless for a moment. When his words finally come, they are slurred and he seems not to see Xianon standing in front of him anymore. "...Dag...the dagger...he...he fancies the...woodcarver's wife. Takes extra shifts... guarding the cells..." His legs can't hold him any more and he sits down hard on the floor before toppling over unconscious. His hair is bloody and matted from the strike to the head he had received earlier from the butt of Serwa's halberd.
The Redbrand is unresponsive, he seems to have passed out cold.
Tomora's anger suddenly shifts to concern after she takes a good look at her companions. "Oh my lans, you're bleedin'! Are you all right?" She says as she starts to fuss about Xianon as of he might fall over at any moment. "Y'all need a rest...and a bandage or two."
The room has three entrances, a stone door set back into the south wall, and two doors on the west wall - the one you came through and another heavy door just to the north of it.
Still looking at the unconscious man, Xianon nods slowly. "I could use some healing," he admits. He rubs his arms and stares, lost in thought for a moment. Then he shakes his head and returns to the present. "Yes," he repeats, "a bit of healing. And a short rest might be possible." He looks around and finally scoops up the coins from the middle of the table. "Looks like we won the pot," he quips.
Sera glances at the room, "We can secure it easily enough. Let's rest here, lunch break time. That's an order if you all like. I order everyone to take a break and not bleed to death."

OOC: If we take a short rest, Serwa will use Hit Dice to heal.

OOC: Using the other 4 HP from Lay on Hands could top off Serwa from a Short Rest, saving Spell Slots. Do we want to leave altogether for a long rest? Or press on?
"Are we up for more today? There's no wrong answer. Trying to push on out of bravery could get the hostages killed. I don't like leaving them here a day longer more than you do, but they were here before we arrived, and if we die trying to get them, they'll be here forever,"Serwa says. "Does anyone want to return after a full rest, at full strength?"

The elf shakes his head. "They'll know their stronghold has been compromised, and may do something drastic. I suggest we press on, at least until we rescue the captives."
Xianon, too, will take a moment to recover. He sits, staring at the door westward but his eyes focused far past it.
"Alright, Aster, Tomora, what do you both say?"Serwa asks, in between bites of dried rations and sips of water. "Can you press on a bit more, at least to secure the hostages?"

"Oh, I'm for pressing on! Id like to finish this. I'm not too hurt and I still have a few spells I can cast." she thinks for a moment, "But if that fellow was tellin' the truth, there are three bugbears down there. Seems we should be able to out think that lot! Mayhaps, we could lure them out or set a trap some how. If we could get them in a tight space, I could drop some exploding ice balls on them...or something else."
As she is talking she tries the other door on the west wall. It appears to be locked. "Locked...we really could use someone who knows their way around a lock...maybe I could learn." she says, looking at it curiously.
She then takes down some of the drapes hanging about the room and begins to tie up the two unconscious men.
"Aster, you good, also? I don't want any of us to push into something they're not ready for. I've lost enough friends and allies," Serwa says. "If you're good, then we'll try to follow Tomora's suggestion, take on isolated groups or avoid them altogether while we try to free the prisoners. But if you need to take a longer rest and recharge, say the word."
A quick rest wont do it for me in terms of magic, but i am as healthy as when we started. So we surely can push on. I fear of putting my life over that of children. Right, the woodcarvers family include some of the younger kind. Sorry about that Serwa. But now that i mention it, it makes our situation a bit more difficult. What do we do when they threaten to kill a child?
Serwa frowns, then shakes her head to avoid getting mired in "what ifs." "We'll try not to let it become a 'blades to their throats' situation. Either secure the hostages before they can try that, or kill their guards before they have a chance to consider it."

I just want you to know that our paths may have crossed again, but i will not save you a second time. Not unless you earn it.

What about Glasstaff? does he take special security measures? Bodyguards? The name implies that he uses magic. But does he have any arcane wards set?
