(( ooc: Interesting thought...if this is leading to the same room as the collapsed roof outside...then we could try putting Taraven and Okkar OUTSIDE near hole in roof, while the Galtheon, Evan , Nanoc and Ilecerys drop down...from the hole in the roof. At least then tho softer targets won't be vulnerable. It probablt depends if the hole in the foof is big enough to cast and shoot through.
If we can collapse this roof, it might also provide other options... ))
Taraven pops into the east door to check what Galtheon has mentioned

Taraven follows Galtheon's directions and ponders the mechanism by which the ceiling collapses, and quickly concludes with certainty that there is some sort of lever that can disable the trap located in the loophole area to the south of this eastern hallway, the area also accessible by climbing from the outside due to the collapsed roof, which had several spears and light crossbows on racks, indicating it was a guardpost of some kind.

Approaching that area from the outside is absolutely an option, and it does contain the level to disable the eastern hallway's collapsing roof "trap" feature, if the party decides to do so.
If you decide to go that route, please confirm how you approach - who stays up top, who descends to ground level to search for the trap-disabling lever, etc.
"Indeed, watch for that section of ceiling that has been rigged to collapsed," counsels Evan, using Guidance as needed for the others to make their rolls.
When talking about attacking from outside, he mentions, "Of course, it is just standing there in the hallway--we could take a few shots at it now and see if we can destroy it quickly from here, but I am open to coming up behind it through the loophole if we want."
OOC: If Evan can hit with a Guiding Bolt, 4d6 radiant damage plus giving the next attack advantage could work pretty well, but I don't think we have many magical ranged weapons. Of course, Evan can also just keep dropping Sacred Flame on it from a distance until it gets annoyed enough to attack and we can kill it now...Maybe a couple of us can stay here and provide a distraction while a stealth team moves in from the loophole to get the lever...
Okkar squints at the room and the mechanism Taraven points out. “Might be they had this rigged to drop in case they were raided, area it connects to looks like a guard post, based on the weapons. Guessing they could have armed the thing to drop from there, sure, makes sense. You all are the experienced dungeon professionals. I’ll follow your lead on how to go about this. Bah, our ancestral mine and now I’m thinking of it as a ‘dungeon.’ Host preserve us.”
OOC: Taraven does have Ray of Frost as a cantrip. The stone ghost won't take full damage but if we are using it as a distraction for a stealth team its an option. I'm wary of using my spell slots due to the chance of not taking a long rest as we dive deeper into the mine.
OOC: @DM, would the lever be within 30ft in order to use Mage Hand or would I have to climb up and use it from the opening on the roof?

Taraven could climb to the roof to try to spot it, and use mage hand if it is within 30 ft from there, but it can’t be seen from the view from the eastern hallway, your investigation roll just suggests that it is located in the Eastern loophole room.
That entire room is less than 30 ft across, so if that is the range of Mage Hand than if you can spot it from the “roof” area you would not have to climb down to trigger the lever.
Let me know if Taraven is attempting to do this. I believe another PC may have already set up a rope loop to make the climb a non issue, or was planning to do so?
As Nanoc doesn't have any serious ranged weapons, he is willing to be the stealth team (or part thereof) who climb into the guard post to disable the trap.
[As it is morning for me and I am about to go to work, I will make a couple of rolls now that the DM can use if necessary.]

OOC: Thanks, I will keep this in mind, if the group elects to use him for that purpose, and "bank" these rolls. Taraven may have found a means to do so using a cantrip, waiting for confirmation if she is climbing up to the roof to try that approach, or if the group is sending someone down.
Taraven, roll DC Athletics to Climb the wall - this can be aided by other PCs with the Help Action. Or, if someone loops rope around, the DC is reduced to 5 if they provide knotted rope for climbing. Falling is a fairly minimal risk, incurring 2d6 falling damage for the 20 foot height. When you are at the top of the wall, roll a Perception check. Also, if anyone else is climbing up alongside the Sorceress, let me know, or if the Tiefling is handling this alone.
[Just popping during a break. Nanoc will help Taraven with the climb. If it become relevant, the following is an Athletic check for Nanoc: 15 The other rolls I made previously can still apply.]

Taraven, teaching the top you spot in the northwest corner of this area a lever connected to a mechanism within the wall. You do not see the rippling of the walls and floors as the upper torsos of Stone Ghosts emerge. They act in surprise, then the party will go in party initiative vs enemy initiative which I will roll for.
Stoneghost 1 - Grab vs Taravan: Athletics opposes by Taraven’s acrobatics or athletics, whichever is higher. This creature emerges torso only from the wall directly beneath you and tries to grab you and prevent your escape, possibly intending to pull you down.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
At Ilecerys' comment, Galtheon nods, "Let's get to the roof."
He follows Nanoc and Tavern out, offering help ( and a rope) where necessary, they climbs onto the roof.
He uses the higher altitude to get a better sense of his surrounds, the focuses on the task at hand, looking for the lever and trying to assess how to safely get into the room from above, if necessary.... And if the hole is big enough for an archer or caster to attack through.

Stone ghost 2 emerges from the floor feet away, takes a spear from a weapon rack, moves 15 feet over and 10 up the wall, top half still emerged, and attacks with the spear.
