Yuno would add, "Oh about working together... I've been told that we have to work together... if we fight each other, the world will end... with us in it."
(Just so you know, the Song dragon, I was going to say was less capable of flying down into the storm, but they have a strength of 26, which is fairly impressive for a large dragon. The dragon turtle though has no wings, like the stone dragon, and thus cannot fly on his own. he would need to ride on the song dragon if you go that route. Also of note, you just traveled 25 miles to the East, the flying castle cannot keep up, as it can only travel 6 miles in those 6 hours, so it is 19 miles behind you at the moment. It would take any dragons from there a good 2 hours to catch up with you at your current location. Likely 3 hours, as you would be continuing to move. I'm going to go ahead and roll out the next 4 hours of travel...)
With Kierro's magic to bolster her, Lost Salt is able to regain her composure and keep the ship headed where she wishes it to go. The First Mate, with Chysen's help, is also able to keep the crew moving in their require tasks. The Bosun though continues to flounder, her short dwarf body not meant for waves it seems. Kierro attempts to aid her by using mending, but mistakenly uses the spell on the wrong parts of the item to be fixed, causing more trouble than aid. The quartermaster steps aside as Kierro, who seems to wish to help out everywhere, helps him tend to wounded sailors, but clearly the quartermaster is impressed with Kierro's skill. The crew labors on, but are at the end of their stamina it seems, as they make mistakes, several slipping on the slick deck and nearly falling overboard. The ship makes progress, gaining another full four hours of travel through the storm. It also takes no extra damage during those four hours. (Kierro, you need to pick someone to help next time. The captainw as fine, and would still allow you to do other things, but that, plus mending, plus doing the quartermaster's work, is a bit much. The captain plus one other item next time please, if you still wish to continue aiding the captain.)
Yuno would add, "Oh about working together... I've been told that we have to work together... if we fight each other, the world will end... with us in it."
“Oh- noted! Well I’m aligned with that. I’m off to see the castle- anyone about who can give me a tour?.”. Maril and her dragons will head into the castle and start exploring. She would want a room with a lot of windows and a view, ideally at the top of a tower where she can also go outside..
Kierro rallies the others. "Two hours to what will hopefully be the mithral dragon's lair. We are close!"
To the captain, he says: "I'll need to fly out to the dragon if we find its lair - while mithral dragons are generally friendly, there could be traps or magical effects around its lair. I don't want us to mess up at the last minute. Now, let's get to work - the crew's counting on us!"
Chysen will repeat his duties from last shift - bless on the bosun, captain, and first mate, luck charm, then help the first mate. Kierro will use his enhancing spell on the captain, then help her keep the crew focused and encouraged. Persuasion: 21 (Note: The saltmarsh book's ship section says that persuasion is one of the two main skill checks for the captain, but survival might be appropriate as well to navigate through the storm. Bump the roll down to 33 if that's the case.)
He'll request Honor and Naivara to assist the Bosun and Quartermaster, respectively.
"Grivyn could probably help yes," Naivara agrees. "But I also think it's probably too late for that at the moment."
Naivara stays in a place where she can see a majority of the crew, conjuring vines to grab onto any people that look like they might be about to go overboard. She will help the Quartermaster upon Kierro's advice.
Casting Grasping Vine near people who look like they're going to go overboard, helping the Quartermaster
Kierro helps the captain a bit more directly, but she stil flags, and is unable to keep the ship on track. Even with Chysen's help, the first mate also loses track of too much in the swirling storm, and fails to give the correct orders to the crew at the correct times. The bosun and Quartermaster are also clearly out of their elements, both losing their composure as their captain and first mate fail in their tasks. it is the crew that turns the tide of failure though, with Emmy moving easily among the rigging, the crew is able to pull through the failures of their officers and keep the ship moving onward. Even so the ship is damaged yet more, rigging and other wooden parts snapping in the relentless storm. It flounders along though, coming up on an island ahead. The ship has little chance to correct its heading and simply runs aground on the island, more damage getting done to the hull, though the magical protections keep those to a lesser extent than would be expected.
Kierro would sense the Mithril dragon quite close, coming from somewhere on the island.
The island is a small one, likely one that the ship would have missed entirely if not for Kierro's guidance. It is hard to make out much in the storm-tossed view, but it appears to have a sand beach, which leads up to a single mountain reaching towards the sky. The mountain is not tall, more a very tall bluff or mesa (if you were in a desert) but sizeable from the ground level. It does not appear that much vegitation is on the island, nor that it likely holds much in the way of wildleff or othre resources.
The force of the collision throws Kierro off his feet. He lands, stunned, but quickly pulls himself up. "Captain Lost Salt! First Mate Copper! Are you alright? Is everybody alright?" He quickly does a scan of the ship, stabilizing any crew knocked unconsious during the collision with spare the dying. Then he collapses, a tear of joy falling from his eyes - they were safe. For now at least.
Once that's done, he looks for Emmy, Chysen, Palvin, Naivara, and Honor (he knows they'll be mostly alright, but does so to be sure). He speaks to them, and to the captain: "I'll need to find the mithral dragon - both to ensure that you are not seen as an intrusion, and to see if he has any way of restoring the ship or otherwise returning the crew to dry land."
He breathes a sigh. "Chysen, how're you feeling? Rest for now, and protect the crew, please. I'll be back as soon as I can."
He then turns to Naivara and Honor + company. "Anyone want to come with me?'"
Honor surveys the ship in dismay. "We may have to take them all on now, if the mithral dragon can't help us out." She wipes her hair out of her eyes. "I'll come. With any luck they're somewhere less wet. Emmy, any chance you know them?"
Chysen gives Kierro a nod to acknowledge the order.
Emmy glances to Honor with a shrug. "Hard to say, Not many Mithrils around, that I know of, so it could be one of the few I've met." She glances to the island. "Hard to say who would have a lair out here in the middle of nowhere though..."
Kierro, Honor, and Naivara Who is all going with Kierro to meet the Mithril dragon?
Castle folks Leareth and Maril are shown around by a well-dressed figure you all recognize as an Axial dragon. He is a curteous and attentative host, explaining the workings of each room, and listening to any requests on what you would want for rooms.
Leareth listened attentively and looked around carefully, but inwardly he was dubious about the thing. What use was it? It must cost a tremendous amount of energy, to create and operate, seemed to be moving quite slowly and made them a sitting duck. All the dragonlords in the same place, what an opportunity! Not that they would be easy to take down, even at their current reduced power, but they should not forget that someone did this to them. Someone had the wherewithal to rip their souls out and scatter them on a different world, and gathering them back up only made the likelihood that this would happen again greater.
He had no idea how the others would react to his presence, but he considered it likely that their mutual mission would keep them from infighting. But once they recovered all the shards, what then? He had to have a plan in place for when that happened. He had to turn this to his advantage. An idea began to form in his mind. Perhaps he could find a way to keep them working together, and insinuate himself into a position of influence, if not leadership.
He studied the dragon giving them the tour. One did not often encounter axial dragons on the Prime. In fact, there seemed to be quite a lot of exotic dragons around. Surely that was no coincidence. Something seemed to be afoot, something beside their personal quest. Were dragon gods involved somehow? He addressed their guide. "Just what's going on? I've been traveling on my own under the impression that I'm the only one who has been brought here, but obviously that's not the case. This castle... the other dragons... what's the situation?"
Maril tours the castle in wonder, looking for a good room with a view, maybe the top of a tower, and also finding the amenities and asking about defenses. “Is there a library? Any teleportation circles? Who are the guards? How do you have watches set up? Can we make this move any faster?” Are some of her questions on the tour.
The wind around the Mithril dragon's mountain lair is even more turbulent than that of just the storm itself. Kierro would recognize that the dragon's affect on the area is combining with the storm to cause this to happen. Walking around the base of the mountain you find no paths that lead upwards. Kierro, again, would not be overly surprised, as why would a Mithril need a ground-based entrance to its area. The sense of the dragon comes from above. It is unclear if it is atop the mountain, or in the air above it, but definitely not far enough above to be up out of the storm. How do you approach the dragon?
Leareth and Maril. Piazet, the Axial dragon, glances to you both as you ask your questions. He address Leareth first. "Your question is unclear." Piazet states matter of factly. "The castle was a craft I found needful to allow me to do as my master directed. I aquired it for the purpose to travel to the West and do as I was ordered." He cocks his head a bit. "Those named Dragonlords have gathered together due to needing to aquire their souls, as I understand it. They were each drawn to areas with those items that housed their soul shards, and thus came into close contact with each other. As they discovered the fact that there were more items to reclaim, they decided to travel together to do so. This castle, while slow, seemed the safest way to travel across the storm and back to the mainland."
To Maril... There are plenty of towertop rooms available. You would notice catipults on the roofs, as well as balistas setup at arrow slits along the sides and back of the castle. Otherwise it is a castle, with thick, stout, doors and quite a few areas to help protect against anyone trying to get inside. "There is an extensive library." Piazet informs you. "You can find several there most times, those who enjoy to read as well as those seeking to research something or another." he would show it to you as you tour the place. "There are no teleportation circles here. I did not have those requirements when I aquired the craft, so did not consider it needful to have them included." He looks a little less-than-pleased he had not been told such things would be of use. "As far as guards, the dragons serve as our scouts and those who keep watch. Several of the dragonlords also perform these duties. I do not believe there is any schedule currently, but would be more than happy to set one up if Latrius wishes one."
Kierro shields his eyes from the storm above with his hand. With hardened resolve, he says: "We'll need something to get us all through. Something like this. Chysen, Emmy, this should give you strength to fly against the storms."
He casts enhance ability (strength) at third level, targeting both Chysen and Emmy.
"For the crew! Let's move out!" He points upward toward the mountain's peak, and the dragon atop it.
